515. Let’s Go Bungee Jumping! 【8/40】

Lin Nan lay in the tent, feeling a bit anxious, as if someone in the shadows was watching her.
The lively chatter outside had died down. The students had set off around nine in the morning, enduring the long bus ride, over two hours of trekking on a boardwalk, and then letting loose at the mountaintop scenic area. Now, they were playing silly games like “Eagle Grabbing Chicks.” No matter how energetic they were, they were all drained by now.
Inside the surrounding tents, sporadic snoring could be heard, but Lin Nan was wide awake, her mind racing about the otherworldly assassin who wanted her dead.
If Kang De hadn’t been stealthily tagging along, she might’ve been a goner by now. Chen Yao would be sobbing beside her corpse, while all their classmates would look at each other in shock. Her mother and grandparents would also hear the news, turning their hair white before their time.
Lin Nan felt a strong sense of crisis, pushing her to unlock some self-defense magic.
But passive magic was useless—otherwise, Lilith wouldn’t have been backstabbed by justice.
“Can’t sleep yet?” The tent flap was pulled open, and Lin Kexin crawled in after washing up at the nearby restroom.
The tent was spacious, but the low height only allowed for crawling.
“I’m not really sleepy.” Lin Nan scooted over, making some space.
Kexin climbed inside, sat up, zipped the tent closed, and then turned to Lin Nan, who was at the back of the tent.
Kexin, sharp-eyed, noticed something was off with Lin Nan.
“What’s wrong? Did you not have fun today?” She tilted her head slightly, a hint of complaint in her tone. “You were MIA during the group activities earlier!”
“I was just outside the tent.”
Almost lost my life there!
“Why didn’t you join in?”
Lin Nan contemplated for a moment and came up with a reason: “Not a fan of ghost stories.”
She didn’t want to talk, curling up and turning her head toward the tent entrance.
She kept feeling that if she fell asleep, someone would stab the tent open and k*ll the “witch” right there.
Li Na was the same. She clearly knew the otherworldly folks might be after Lilith but didn’t give her a heads-up or teach her some useful magic. A little bit of resistance wouldn’t hurt!
All she had was magic that made her immune to temperature changes, automatically cleaned out her monthly visitor, and quickened her reflexes…
Honestly, aside from her quickened reflexes and her Void Hand, she had no combat-enhancing magic. And these two low-tier spells wouldn’t stand a chance against a magical world. Even a small g*n from the modern world could do her in.
“What are you thinking about?” Kexin lay on her side, propping her head up with one hand, her big eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Though Lin Nan had chatted with her before, they were just ordinary friends. She wouldn’t dare tell even Chen Yao about this.
So she quickly came up with an excuse: “Just not used to sleeping next to someone else.”
“You don’t sleep with Chen Yao?”
This girl, looking innocent and cute, didn’t hold back on the innuendos!
Her face flushed slightly, and she ignored the comment.
“Eh? No way! You’ve been together with Chen Yao for several months now, and you haven’t slept together yet?” Kexin was genuinely surprised.
Lin Nan shot her a glance. “How long after getting together do you sleep with your boyfriend?”
“Right away!”
“Whoa…”
“But he’s too scared to touch me.” Kexin giggled, covering her mouth. “Boys these days are such cowards.”
That’s just the boys you’ve encountered!
If it were Chen Yao, he’d probably be all over the place with just a hint of suggestion!
Suddenly realizing her thoughts had taken a strange turn, Lin Nan shot Kexin a glare, hurriedly turned over, and faced away from her.
“Going to sleep already?”
“Suddenly feeling sleepy.”
With her eyes closed, Lin Nan’s mind replayed the moments from earlier when she was attacked, imagining what Chen Yao’s mother and their amiable relatives would think if she actually kicked the bucket.
The more she thought about it, the more her heart raced, making it hard to breathe.
After laying there for ten minutes, the drowsiness still hadn’t arrived, while Kexin had already conked out beside her.
Wouldn’t lying like that squish her chest down or make her struggle for breath?
Taking a peek at Kexin’s odd sleeping posture, Lin Nan felt wide awake and stealthily crawled out of the tent.
It was quiet all around. Although it was mid-June, the mountain air was still cool at night.
The distant streetlights provided some visibility, making it easy for Lin Nan to spot Chen Yao’s tent.
She thought it was time to unlock some new magic.
However, most combat-related magic was elementally tied and required self-harm to unlock.
Looking down at her phone, she pursed her lips, her mind beginning to scheme a bit.
Luck was on her side; there were only about twenty to thirty bungee jumping spots nationwide, and one of them was hidden deep in this scenic area. From the pictures online, it seemed like it was set over a giant lake nestled in the mountains.
Bungee jumping could be considered a drop from height, so that meant wind magic for flying would come into play. It’d be a lot more reassuring to run away using that magic instead of just trying to escape on foot.
The problem? She was afraid of heights.
Would her intense fear actually meet the requirements to unlock another spell?
“Unlock Intimidation under extreme fear, and use magic to impact the enemy’s mind,” she muttered to herself.
That would count as a sneakily aggressive spell.
Doing one bungee jump could unlock two spells; Lin Nan couldn’t resist that!
She wanted to wake Chen Yao to discuss the plan of ditching the group for some bungee jumping tomorrow.
Reaching Chen Yao’s tent, she suddenly felt a gaze upon her. She quickly turned her head and saw Zheng Qian sitting on the grass, watching her.
“What are you doing up at this hour?” he questioned seriously.
He suspected Lin Nan was looking for Chen Yao for some sneaky activities.
“Aren’t you up too?”
“I’m worried about thieves. Keeping watch.”
But Lin Nan could hear the snoring from a short distance away. She glanced toward the source of the snores and couldn’t help but chuckle, “Can’t sleep because of Tu Junhui, huh?”
People had mostly avoided the tent that Tu Junhui was in; there was at least ten meters separating it from the others, all to shield themselves from his thunderous snores. Not to mention Zheng Qian, who was practically his tent mate; not even earplugs could save him!
Zheng Qian had no comeback for that; the snoring truly kept him awake.
Giving up on waking Chen Yao, Lin Nan directly walked over to Zheng Qian and plopped down right in front of him.
He frowned, puzzled by her odd behavior.
But Lin Nan suddenly broke into an incredibly radiant smile, her voice all sweet and alluring, “Zheng Qian~”
“Hmm?”
“Take us bungee jumping tomorrow, okay?”
“???”
