Chapter 235: The Horse Went Boom, but It Seems It’s Not Just the Horse
Facing such a bizarre situation, the leader, Bazel, was briefly stunned but snapped back to reality quickly.
“Everyone, pay attention! Prepare to break through!”
With his command, the two thousand cavalry behind him also came to their senses, forming up in formation.
“Flank around! Charge!”
The cavalry pivoted and began to speed up.
Ahead of them lay a lot of pre-prepared horse-roping kits. Charging forward would be as good as signing their d*ath warrant.
They could only retreat.
The cavalry needed to create some distance—to allow for acceleration.
This was the quickest route to the Emerald City; taking a detour would take ages and they might not make it in time.
There was only one choice now: smash through the blockers and flatten the obstacles!
The knight squad began to maneuver, while the players started their ambush.
However, it wasn’t long before the players noticed something was off.
Uh… this doesn’t seem right.
After a round of attacks, why aren’t we losing much health?
Meanwhile, the enemy charged in, each spear taking one of them down. Even those who got rammed by the warhorses were left battered.
As they got closer, the players finally had a chance to check the enemy info.
“Whoa! How are they so high-level?!”
The lowest level among the knight squad soldiers was 25, with some reaching 30, averaging around level 27.
The commanding officer was a whopping level 50, and the lieutenants were between levels 35 and 40. One hit from these guys was basically a d*ath sentence!
“What the heck? Did we get fed false intel? Didn’t they say they were about our level?!”
“Who the hell gave that info?”
“I… I swear I saw that the fortress had mainly level 20s!”
“That was the original garrison! Not this so-called knight squad! d*mn it!”
Fiery Conflict Across the Sky spat, “I told you! Legendary quests aren’t that easy!”
Just that short while, the enemy cavalry charged several times, each time leaving gaping holes in their ranks, and hundreds of players faded into white light.
Now over a thousand of them had fallen!
Meanwhile, the enemy had suffered only minor injuries, hardly affecting their battle power.
This “advantage” sure was something! What a load of cr*p!
At this rate, before the revived brothers could arrive, they’d already be completely wiped out!
“I can’t take it anymore!” Fiery Conflict Across the Sky gritted his teeth. “WZC! Where the heck is the nuclear bomb? Bring it out and give ‘em a blast!”
WZC hesitated, “Are we using it already? It’s five million gold coins a shot!”
Can’t Sleep sighed, “If we don’t use it, we can’t win. The casualties are still manageable now, so let’s be decisive—wait too long and it’s all for nothing!”
WZC nodded, though still confused. “But how do we use it? We’ve never tried something this extreme before; I don’t know the operation at all.”
There’s no way to test this; spend five million gold coins just to hear a boom? And they only had three shots in total!
Can’t Sleep directed filling the gaps in their encirclement, while Fiery Conflict Across the Sky oversaw everything, leaving WZC in charge of the three shots.
“Just test it while we fight! Didn’t we say we could select targets? Let’s blow up their horses first!”
The mission required them to minimize NPC deaths; using it for the first time could lead to operational errors. If they went overboard and wiped everyone out with one shot, and then the princess had a royal tantrum after her ascending the throne and took back all their rewards, they’d be left speechless.
So to be safe, it was horse-killing time first.
As everyone knows, without their horses, cavalry feel as lost as a fish out of water—truly tragic!
“Got it!”
WZC stepped back, pulling out what looked like an innocuous little box.
He opened the lid and reached for a red button.
The moment he touched it, a panel popped up.
This was the control panel, filled with options.
WZC took a screenshot for posterity, then quickly found the target selection area, setting the damage target to all mounts and leaving the other options at default.
Then… launch!
He slammed his finger down.
Beep… 20… 19
The countdown began.
WZC immediately shouted the countdown out loud.
Hearing the countdown, the players braced themselves, anticipating an earth-shattering blow.
On the knight squad’s side, Bazel also noticed the unusual behavior from the players.
At first, he thought it was strange, but when the countdown hit “5,” he sensed something was off in the air. Like something was pressing down on his body and mind.
He glanced around urgently, shouting, “Everyone pay attention! Something’s coming! Defense! Defense!”
The pressure ramped up rapidly with the countdown, increasing dozens of times every second.
He could hardly breathe.
If he felt that way, the others were even worse off.
Meanwhile, the players were also feeling the crunch.
Some were already hearing a buzzing in their ears.
Everyone’s hearts were instinctively racing.
They all looked to WZC.
Don’t tell me… this guy picked the wrong target…
This better not lead to everyone here getting vaporized on the spot!!!
WZC had a grief-stricken face, shaking his head furiously.
He felt terrible too…
But, how should I know what’s going on!?
If someone had been observing from outside at that moment, they would have noticed that, beneath the sky, a large transparent bowl-shaped dome had appeared out of nowhere, covering a vast area.
Everything inside the dome began to warp, contracting and drawing together, blending various colors into the center.
Finally, the countdown hit zero.
At the very center of the dome, which was also the battlefield of the players and the knight squad, a dark spot suddenly appeared in WZC’s hand.
Before anyone could react, the dark spot quickly expanded, enveloping the battlefield.
And from within the dark spot, a scorching white light erupted.
It was a white light that fused all colors into one;
It was a white light that was engraved in the minds and souls of everyone present!
Wherever the white light passed, everything was consumed.
An extremely sharp sound followed, like a mournful lament echoing across the earth.
Such a widespread and violent disturbance, while not as world-shattering as the previous celestial event, was still enough to cover mountains and rivers with its might.
Far away at the Emerald City, players and NPCs had just witnessed a shockingly impressive scene; they hadn’t fully recovered when they were met with this new uproar from a different direction.
Players: What gives? Do the big shots in this game still enjoy fireworks at their age?
NPCs: Huh? Did another top-tier figure just kick the bucket?
They were already growing tired from the shock.
Many began to shout, wanting to see the commotion up close.
They couldn’t enter the royal city, but certainly, the wilderness would be accessible, right?
Fortunately, that area was far from the Emerald City, requiring them several hours to reach.
By the time they arrived and laid eyes on the chaotic and brutal scene, things had long been over.
