Chapter 266: The Birds and the Bees
The old couple exchanged glances and shook their heads.
“Little Moon, you really didn’t need to go this far to cover for your brother.”
“Right, Little Moon.” Xu Ba finally interjected, “Honestly, we just came to check on you. We’re worried about Little Wind too; Shuxiu’s earlier comments were just to scare him, right?”
He gently elbowed Xu Ma.
And then he was met with a fierce pinch.
“You talk too much!”
“But I only said the first sentence…”
“Shut up!”
Xu Ba was silent.
Xu Ma took a heavy breath, “Sigh, Little Moon, we’re here now, what’s going on with Little Wind? He can’t keep hiding from us.”
“Alright,” Xu Xiaoyue nodded, suddenly turning her head, “Dad already said it was just to scare him, and Mom agrees. How about you say a word, bro?”
“Ah?” Xu Xiaoya blinked, “Little Moon, are you asking me to speak? But didn’t you say I don’t need to worry about anything?”
“Okay, that’s enough!”
“…”
Xu Ba and Xu Ma exchanged confused looks back and forth; they were utterly befuddled.
What’s going on?
What were they just talking about?
So naturally?
Bro?
Little Moon?
Something was off about this dialogue!
“Dad, Mom.” Xu Xiaoyue waved her hands in front of the old folks, “Did you hear what Bro just said?”
“…” Xu Ma murmured, “I’d rather believe you were talking to a ghost just now.”
“Don’t say that, Shuxiu! You can’t curse our son!”
“But do you believe what they just said?”
“I…”
He turned to look at Xu Xiaoya again: “My son isn’t that cute.”
“No! Dad! You’re wrong!” Xu Xiaoyue interjected, “Your son has always been quite adorable. It’s just that he never had the chance to show it off during middle school. Now he’s just cuter!”
“…”
“Mom gets it, right?”
Xu Ma: “I…”
“I showed you the photos, remember?”
Xu Ba looked puzzled, “What photos? How come I don’t know about any photos?”
“There are no photos, just ignore what Little Moon is rambling on about!”
Xu Xiaoya was just as confused as Xu Ba; he didn’t know anything, but he was too afraid to speak up.
After Xu Xiaoyue stirred the pot, the old couple once again focused on Xu Xiaoya.
Forget the hair for now; they were mainly staring at her face.
After a long while, as Xu Xiaoya shrank her neck, Xu Ma gasped.
“Whoa~! Old Xu! Are there photos or not?!”
“What photos?”
“Pictures from when they were kids! Both of them!”
“I’ll look for them.”
Xu Ba began to dig through the photo stash.
He had collected pictures of the kids from birth until middle school.
He found a group shot from elementary school, then flipped to around the age of ten.
They took pictures every year.
Xu Xiaoyue leaned in closer.
The three carefully compared the photos with Xu Xiaoya, examining every detail.
“Looks like!”
“Totally looks like!”
“Too much like!” Xu Xiaoyue suddenly changed her tune, “Wait, what do you mean looks like? They’re obviously the same person!”
Xu Xiaoya craned her neck, equally curious: “Can I see too?”
“This…” Xu Ba hesitated.
But Xu Ma had already snatched the phone, handing it over: “Here, here, of course you can see.”
Xu Xiaoya took the phone and started scrolling through the pictures.
She knew exactly what she looked like now; every detail was crystal clear in her memory.
And the kid in the photos, aside from the hair and eyes, looked exactly like her now.
Others might think all kids look similar, like it’s normal, but she was certain, this was a spitting image.
“Father, Mother, was I a girl when I was in elementary school too?”
“…”
Originally, Xu Ba and Xu Ma could have firmly denied it, but now…
“Uh, probably not…”
“Must have been a boy.”
“Sigh, don’t worry about that.” Xu Xiaoyue suddenly appeared behind Xu Xiaoya, giving her a gentle squeeze, “What happened in the past doesn’t matter; what matters is how you are now.”
“Right, right! Don’t stress over the past.”
After Xu Ma said that, she pulled Xu Xiaoyue to the side and whispered, “Little Moon, what’s going on! This really is Little Wind!”
“Aren’t you certain?”
“Yes… but it’s making my brain a wreck. Plus, is Little Wind okay like this?”
“Don’t worry, he’s perfectly fine; we’ve been to the hospital for checks. He’s in great health, and I even have the reports.”
Xu Ma glanced at the health report.
Though the name read “Xu Xiaoyue,” the ID code and age matched hers, but the height was 138, weight XX, gender female, and the final comments.
“So, my son really has turned into… a little girl?”
“Absolutely! I practically witnessed the transformation!”
Xu Ma muttered under her breath as she walked away, then Xu Ba pulled Little Moon back for a repeat of the same questions.
Then the old couple sat together on the couch, staring at the little girl in front of them in complete silence.
Xu Xiaoya sat there, being scrutinized, feeling anxious while fidgeting with her hands.
Suddenly, Xu Ma seemed to have had an epiphany: “Oh dear, look at me scaring the child. Little Wind, come here so Mom can take a good look.”
“Mother… ma’am?”
“Sigh~! This kid’s too well-behaved!”
“Then… are you still going to hit me…?”
“Did I ever say I would? I don’t remember that!”
Xu Ba chimed in: “You did say that on the phone.”
Smack! Xu Ma slapped Xu Ba on the arm, “Alright, alright, I’m done with the slapping. Little Wind, come here and let Mom give you a hug.”
Xu Xiaoya watched Xu Ba grimace and rub his arm, wanting to say something but biting her tongue, she quickly walked over to Xu Ma.
And was immediately scooped up into her embrace.
“Wow, this skin is so smooth, so soft, so silky! Even better than Little Moon back then!”
Xu Ba: “Let me see too.”
“You stay back! What kind of man gets in the way?”
Xu Xiaoyue joined in, and they flanked Xu Xiaoya from both sides.
“Mom, we’re calling her Little Yuliya now, Xu Xiaoya.”
“The name’s changed? Sounds great!”
The two squeezed around Little Yuliya, poking and prodding.
“Little Moon, you were never this well-behaved when you were her age.”
“She… haha, of course, my sister is well-behaved.”
Xu Xiaoya raised her chin: “I’m the big sister! You’re the little sister!”
“Hah, switched roles again, huh?”
“Fine, whoever’s the big sister or little sister is cool. Little Moon, you better let your sister have the upper hand.”
This felt a bit awkward!
Xu Xiaoyue pouted.
Suddenly, it seems she touched something sharp.
Seizing the moment, she yanked it out.
“Hey!” Xu Xiaoya quickly covered up, but was still a beat too slow.
Xu Xiaoyue looked down at the half-ripped “Advanced Mathematics” book in her hand, deep in thought.
