Chapter 289: Verdant and Senra
There’s one tiny issue with going to the Spirit Tower: players.
As a recurring dungeon that pops up every fortnight, aside from those players already gallivanting in the Golden City, everyone else basically has no choice but to be there.
This massive player crowd has resulted in a bustling scene around the Spirit Tower.
Yuliya pulled out her beloved little cloak, took a distant glance, and decided to step out and give it a shot.
After a little stroll…
“Eh? No one’s paying attention to me!”
With so many people seeing a mysterious figure pop up, they’d give a few extra glances, I mean, a little loli NPC is still a rare sight.
But that’s about it.
Yuliya patted her little chest.
As long as nobody notices me, it’s all good.
If I were in the Jade Emperor Kingdom, those guys would’ve shouted to check me in a heartbeat upon seeing someone in a black robe.
Although they often mess it up, they’re thick-skinned—“No biggie! We’ll get them next time!”
But here? A pure land! It’s simply fabulous.
After confirming everything was copacetic, Yuliya strutted her way toward the Spirit Tower.
Swiped her card, and in she goes…
【Waiting in line (56 people ahead)…】
What the heck!
Do I really have to stand in line?! I’ve never waited in line in the Jade Emperor Kingdom!
Well, whatever. Gotta wait, I guess.
This isn’t my home turf; I can’t act out.
After about ten minutes, Yuliya finally got through the queue and entered the Spirit Tower.
This tower looked identical to the one back in the Jade Emperor Kingdom. After a whimsical sensation, Yuliya found herself on solid ground.
Without further ado, Yuliya took a step forward, officially kicking off her challenge.
As the foe on the first floor made his entrance, Yuliya had already locked onto him.
Their eyes met.
The next moment, the opponent was down on one knee.
“I, Clark, serve the Princess Your Highness.”
Yuliya: “…”
This feels awfully familiar.
She sighed, “So it’s like that, huh… Get up.”
“Yes, Your Highness!”
As Clark rose, his attributes displayed right in front of Yuliya.
【Name: Clark (NPC · Spirit State)
Class: Knight
Title: Commander of the Golden Kingdom’s Blazing Fire Knights
Panel Data: Please expand (suppressed)
Talent Skills: Golden Battle Technique, Raging Flames, Crimson Charge…
HP:
MP: Unlimited】
Currently, Yuliya was level 35, so Clark was also level 35 under suppression, but originally, he was mid-tier legendary.
In terms of magic mastery, he’s on par with Aslan, but actual power is anyone’s guess.
“Looks like I have a guaranteed win here. Stepping through the door is bound to yield a jackpot.”
Yuliya muttered, a bit self-deprecatingly.
She had a feeling the next two countries would be the same.
“Clark.”
“At your service!”
“You don’t have to be so stiff. Relax a bit. Before coming here, I met Aslan in another Spirit Tower. Got a bit of the scoop.”
“Understood, Your Highness.”
“Well then, why are you here? This Spirit Tower belongs to the Verdant Empire. From what I see, it’s not exactly a subsidiary of our Golden Kingdom.”
“I’m not sure of the specifics, Princess. My remaining memory only goes up to that day.”
“What day?”
“I ventured far into Senra to provide support, but on that day, the sky shattered, and multiple deities descended simultaneously. They first targeted legendary-level fighters who were hanging around, and I was one of them. By the time the battle kicked off, I was already out of commission.”
“…” Yuliya gently shut her eyes and nodded, “That sounds rough.”
“It’s my duty; I can’t complain.”
Yuliya fell into a thoughtful silence, as if pondering or mourning.
“You mentioned Senra? What exactly does that refer to?”
“Senra Country, one of the largest human nations at the time.”
“What other nations were around? Was my Golden Kingdom one of them?”
“Yes, Your Highness. At that time, there were five major countries on the human continent: the Golden Kingdom, Lozek Kingdom, Senra Country, Blazing Flame Kingdom, and Shazhou Country. Along with many smaller nations, all existed as dependencies to us major countries.”
“So the Senra Country was in trouble, and you were sent to help?”
“It wasn’t just me, nor was it solely about the Senra Country. We deployed many divisions to aid others. I was just one of those sent to Senra.”
“Why go to such lengths?”
Yuliya furrowed her brows.
We’re so powerful; do we even have the resources to help others? Why were we still wiped out?
In other words, if my Golden Kingdom had just thrown in the towel and contracted our defenses, would we have survived?
Seemingly sensing Yuliya’s confusion, Clark explained, “That was the Emperor’s directive. He said, either all five kingdoms survive together, or we all perish together.”
“Ah, so that’s how it is.”
Perhaps there was a sort of mutual defense mechanism between the five kingdoms; if one fell, the others would face calamity too.
Suddenly, Yuliya had a lightbulb moment regarding the current situation.
Also five countries, also allies. This makes it likely that they were established with remnants of the past five major nations in mind.
The Jade corresponds to the Gold, Ice Wave to Lozek, Verdant to Senra, Crimson to Blazing Flame, and finally, the Abysmal Desert to Shazhou.
But the Ice Wave Empire has been long gone.
“This spells trouble… Isn’t this a historical reenactment?”
The only difference being that nowadays, the countries are a fraction as strong as they used to be.
Perhaps it’s precisely because they’re weak that they haven’t drawn further extermination, allowing them to linger on.
But that’s only temporary; one day, the divine beings will once again set their sights on them, and with a snap of a finger, they’ll wipe these puny nations off the map.
Who knows how long they can drag this out.
“Which gods and demons descended upon Senra at that time? Do you know any of them?”
Clark thought for a moment, then nodded, “We were aware of their names as soon as they arrived. Leading the pack was the Wolf God Fenrir, the Serpent God Jormungandr, the Fox God Furtis, along with some weaker gods compared to those three.”
Well, would you look at that! All familiar faces!
I don’t know the Beast God, but I’ve crossed paths with the Wolf God and Fox God, and I’ve heard of the Serpent God in the history of the Jade Emperor Kingdom.
The Wolf God Fenrir is the World Boss of Beginner’s Village, while the Fox God is the ancestor of the foxes in the Illusion Forest of the Ruinous Country.
Thinking of this, Yuliya suddenly recalled the Ruinous Country.
That place was originally called the Rainbow Country, as the Undead King has a title as the King of the Rainbow Country.
“Do you know a place called Rainbow Country?”
“Rainbow Country?” Clark thought for a bit then shook his head, “No recollection.”
“Well then, where did the Calamity first break out?”
“Senra Country.”
“Well, that fits right in. The Rainbow Country should be a subordinate territory of Senra Country.”
