Chapter 3: Cashing In Beats Any Cheating Software
If you don’t open shop for a year, then when you do, you feast for a whole year—this must be what they mean by good fortune!
After completing a trade, Xu Xiaofeng strutted down the road, her steps as light as her heart, sporting a grin that could blind the sun.
This delightful display made the already clogged village feel even more stagnant.
Sigh, what can I do? Such is the curse of my damnable charm! I’m in a good mood, so let them enjoy a taste of my beauty for free.
Pfft! Nonsense! I’m a sturdy manly man, who would let these loli enthusiasts milk me for free?
A shiver ran down Xu Xiaofeng’s spine, and the joy from raking in big bucks dimmed just a notch.
Quick as a flash, she ducked into a less crowded alley, shaking off a few lurkers hot on her heels.
If it weren’t for my desperate need to earn some coin, I wouldn’t dare show my face around here. But now that I’ve made a big haul, I just need to sit back and wait for the cash to roll in.
You see, Xu Xiaofeng thoughtfully decided to use the Nuclear Blast Slash skill after careful consideration.
Barking around day in and day out for a few measly coins doesn’t cut it anymore. Nowadays, players aren’t so easy to fool. Even if you pull out genuine goods, they still look as if a cloud of misfortune has settled over them. Might as well have the big streamers do the advertising for me for free!
Moreover, there’s a crucial point—Nuclear Blast Slash has a tiny little flaw, but I won’t spill the beans on that!
With everything set, all that was missing was the bang!
Now that work’s done, it’s game time! With too many players hogging the wild areas, it’s not the best time for monster farming; I’d rather scout around the town.
Xu Xiaofeng kept her eyes peeled and her ears perked, peering at the other NPCs with the purest expression. Mostly, she was eyeing what they had in their pockets.
Her Eye of Breaking Delusion could not only see through players’ pockets but also peek into NPCs’!
Daily Quest: Hunt Wild Boars? A few copper coins for that? No thanks!
Regular Quest: Collect Wind Wolf pelts? A measly sliver of experience? Not worth it!
World Quest: Slay 20 Elk? You trying to work me to the bone?
Having scanned the area, none of the NPCs had a decent quest. But that made sense; the game had already been live for three hours, and the usual new player fare had already been picked clean. Many of the seemingly decent quests were now marked as “completed.”
“Boss, I’ll take that quest!”
Suddenly, an overly excited voice rang out from behind the wall.
Xu Xiaofeng turned around, quickly recalling the map in her mind.
That should be the enchantment shop over there. At this level, players haven’t even unlocked the enchantment system, so it’s no wonder not many visit.
Which means… a potential target!
Just as someone stepped out of the shop, Xu Xiaofeng slipped in right behind them.
The shop owner, Edward, had just stowed away a bag, getting ready to take a break when he spotted a little head poking in.
He recognized this little girl; she had been living alone in the village for quite some time, and everyone just called her “girl” or “little sister,” without even knowing her real name.
This is part of the system’s setting for Xu Xiaofeng, detailed down to every little thing.
“Hey, kiddo, what’s up?”
Xu Xiaofeng’s keen eyes spotted at least a hundred gold coins in that recently stashed bag, and she felt her heart twinkle with delight.
Looking into the child’s “innocent” eyes, Edward instinctively pulled the cabinet door a little closer: “What are you staring at, kid?”
“Uncle Edward, you wouldn’t want Auntie to find out about your little stash, would you?”
“Huh?”
“Ahem, just kidding! Those outsiders talk like that. Hehe!” Xu Xiaofeng blinked innocently.
“Oh, I see.” Edward let out a huge sigh of relief, “For a moment, I thought I was being threatened! Don’t go picking up everything from those outsiders, okay?”
With that, he pondered for a moment and decided to lock up the cabinet.
Xu Xiaofeng chuckled to herself while maintaining a sweet smile: “Uncle, I overheard some outsiders saying you had a good quest. I want to do a quest, too!”
“Shoo, shoo! Go play. This quest is for adventurers, not a little girl like you.”
“But I’m an adventurer too!” she said, pulling out a black badge from her bamboo basket, proving she was a black iron-level adventurer. Of course, she got it as a player.
“What… Catherine gave you a badge? Isn’t that nonsense! I’m going to speak with her right now!”
“Hey!” Xu Xiaofeng hurriedly stepped in front of Edward, one hand on the cabinet lock, and the other poking at the keyhole, “Uncle, what’s in there? I’m so curious!”
At her words, Edward’s expression stiffened.
“Uncle, I’m actually pretty forgetful. I might come back from a quest and forget everything.”
“No way, you’re still too little.”
“Oh, but what’s really in there? Auntie would love to know too.”
“Fine! I give up; you win, kid!”
“Hehe, Uncle, you’re such a nice guy.”
“Alright, now listen up for the quest!”
Ding! The Favorability Quest System has been activated!
The sudden system prompt made Xu Xiaofeng freeze for a moment, and after looking at the newly popped-up quest, her heart raced with excitement.
So this is how it is! A favorability quest! A tiered quest system that opens based on different levels of favorability!
In “Otherworld,” NPCs initially treat players with indifference, like a slight negative standing. As favorability improves, it can progress to normal, friendly, enthusiastic, close, best friend, and so on. Of course, there are also more negative attitudes!
And increasing favorability usually means spending time together, completing quests posted by everyone, or cashing in. But if you’re planning to max out favorability with NPCs solely through cashing, I’d suggest you just buy the game outright with that money!
Little master, there’s more in this chapter, please click to the next page to continue reading; the next part is even more exciting!
No wonder the uncle suddenly got a heap of cash; no wonder he’s acting so lame! Turns out he has a guilty conscience, bribing with cash!
However, as a little loli who has lived in the village for many years, the attitudes of the usual NPCs toward her started off pretty friendly, and in a beginner village, they were even more eager to help. The favorability tier quests are ripe for the picking!
More importantly, because of this unexpected activation of the Favorability Quest System, her Eye of Breaking Delusion could now directly see all NPC favorability quests!
Wuhuu! We’re taking off!
Current mission first stop…
Hiss! Experience Book! No wonder the player who just rushed out was as happy as a 300-pound child! This baby can level you up in a heartbeat!
In “Otherworld,” leveling up isn’t easy; it takes hours at the beginner stage to reach one level, and it only gets slower later on. By the late game, it might take days to level up plenty! Yet, one experience book is like a treasure that replaces many days of grinding.
Although Xu Xiaofeng has automatic leveling due to her NPC experience, her grinding speed is about on par with regular players. Still, you can never have too many experience books!
With that thought, Xu Xiaofeng looked at Edward like he was a delicious little loli.
No talking, just getting to work!
Quest time!
Need to collect three Purple Ghost Flowers? For regular players, this rare material collection quest might be a pain, hard to find, but for an NPC who has lived in the village for years like Xu Xiaofeng, it’s like a freebie!
“Uncle, you keep doing your thing; I’m off!”
“Hey, be safe. Remember, three is enough for that quest; each person…”
“What did you say, Uncle? I didn’t catch that! Bye!”
