Chapter 423: The Faraway is Fantasy, the Reality is Underfoot
After class, a few observing instructors made their exit first.
“What does Brook think of this new instructor?”
“What else is there to think? Didn’t everyone applaud?”
“I only clapped because she spoke well. But that’s just talk. In reality…”
“Isn’t that good enough? At least she dared to say it. As for what comes next, we’ll tackle that later.”
With that, Brook quickened his pace to leave.
The rest exchanged glances.
“What kind of attitude does Brook have? I don’t get it.”
“Let’s just see how things play out. In the end, it’s all about results at Saint Felis Academy. No matter how sweetly you speak, if you can’t deliver a plan or produce results, it’s all for nothing.”
“What if it does produce results?”
“If it really does, isn’t that a good thing? Then we can get back to doing our own thing.”
And with that, they all scattered.
In fact, Yuliya’s insights into magic were somewhat understood by the classical instructors.
Which of them, back when they were young, wasn’t a genius in their own right? Who didn’t dream of changing the world?
Magic is just the tool for changing the world.
But ultimately, dreams shatter and reality sets in.
Forget about changing the world; even controlling one’s own life can feel like climbing a mountain.
What does Emerald Level even mean? Legendary level?
With divine beings above you and enemies everywhere.
Natural disasters and man-made catastrophes can easily take a person’s life.
So-called strong people are merely struggling to get by.
But that’s the world adults, who have weathered many storms and smoothed out their corners, see.
For these vibrant young students, the power of fantasy and the heart of miracles are their greatest motivation to move forward.
Thus, they applauded.
In another classroom, not a single student chose to leave.
Many crowded forward, surrounding Euphilia, while even more had no choice but to sit outside and watch.
“Euphilia, is what you said in class true? Can magic truly be at our beck and call?”
“Instructor! I want to change the world. Can you teach me the magic to do it?”
“Teacher, why don’t you continue teaching next class? After all, the academy rules say we can attend any class we want!”
Despite their desperate crowding, an invisible barrier kept them a meter away from Euphilia.
Euphilia’s ears were growing sore from the noise, so she decided to just tune it all out.
It was break time, and asking the instructor questions during break was completely fair and reasonable.
As a responsible teacher, Euphilia couldn’t scare her students or be mean, so she resorted to waving her hands and signaling for them to quiet down.
She felt a bit regretful, wishing she had made a quick getaway the moment class ended.
She was used to being a student everywhere she went; now that she was a teacher, she wanted to relish it and stayed behind.
Turned out, that was a miscalculation.
Finally, the students gradually settled down.
She sighed and said, “You all are extremely enthusiastic and eager to learn, which brings me joy. However, I can’t answer each of you individually, so let me address this all at once.”
“What I spoke of in class is entirely true. If I said it, I will follow through. If you’re interested in future lessons, feel free to join in.”
“And so, that’s that. Goodbye!”
As soon as she finished, her figure vanished.
“Eh?”
“Where did the instructor go?”
“She’s gone.”
“This must be spatial magic! Euphilia is just so amazing!”
“She’s young and beautiful too!”
“Very elegant and handsome!”
The students behind could only leave helplessly.
Yuliya and the other three also left together.
Yuliya and Kaise were quietly whispering something in front, while Inif and Heidis lagged behind, starting their own conversation.
“Inif, you’re from the Classical School of the Magic Academy, right? What did you think of the class just now?”
“I… I don’t know.”
“What? Got something on your mind?”
Inif shook her head. “No problem. Euphilia taught really well. But it just felt a bit too vague; difficult to grasp, you know?”
Inif was already in her third year and was certainly no slouch when it came to magic.
After going through the years like this, having an instructor suddenly say your approach isn’t enough, and to be more abstract and free-flowing—that’s a tough pill to swallow.
Plus, with Inif’s unique background, if an ordinary person came to talk to her about fantasy and miracles now, she’d just roll her eyes.
“And how about you, Heidis? What do you think?”
“Me? I don’t know much about magic, so I don’t have any thoughts.”
“Now that’s a sneaky response.”
“Okay, fine.” Heidis chuckled. “I really don’t understand what magic can achieve or whether what Euphilia said was true. But I hope she can make it happen. I hope more people can realize miracles through magic.”
Inif gave Heidis a meaningful look. “Looks like you have a complicated history too, huh?”
Heidis shook her head lightly and smiled. “No complicated history. Just saw some sights along the way.”
Inif decided to drop the topic. “I don’t have class next hour. What’s your plan?”
“Our freshman schedule for the first week is pretty packed—we’ve got a taste of every subject.”
“Yeah, but those classes you have zero interest in, you can skip outright. Like Alchemy, Botany, and Theology.”
Heidis glanced at her schedule. “Next up is a magic class, from the Modern School.”
Inif frowned slightly, but said, “Then I’ll come along.”
With that, she stepped forward and patted Yuliya on the shoulder. “Riya, what classes are you planning to take?”
“Me? I want to take them all!”
“I want them all too!” Kaise chimed in from the other side.
“All of them?” Inif was a bit speechless. “Do you really need to?”
“I want to see! They all seem like so much fun!”
Heidis piped in, “Riya asked the instructor in the first class if she could learn every subject at the academy. I thought she was joking.”
“…” Inif was silent for a moment, then politely smiled, “As long as you’re happy.”
“Lady Riya is amazing! Learning these classes is a breeze, and not only does she learn, she can also teach us!”
Yuliya put on a stern face, looking at Kaise with disbelief. “What have I taught? Go on, tell me!”
“You taught… Lady Riya taught me performances!”
This… she actually did teach that.
“Performances? What kind of performances?” Inif curiously asked.
“Bad-guy performances! They’re so much fun!”
“Riya, so you’re the one who taught this little cat to be naughty? No wonder I can’t stand her now.”
“Lady Riya hasn’t taught you, right? Hmph!”
“Dumb kitty!”
And off they went again.
Yuliya quietly slipped away.
