Chapter 44: Steamed Cool Tea
During dinner and evening classes, Zhao Bowen just wouldn’t stop his whining.
“I swear, those NPCs don’t listen to a word! I spent ages explaining and still got slapped with a fine!”
“I was just minding my own business in the last game, and then bam! This bad luck hit me!”
Da Bin chimed in, “So what you’re saying is you let your beastly nature loose, went after Nuclear Bomb Little Sister, and got served justice?”
“What nonsense! That’s just a setup! I saw the little sister fall, and I only went to help her up.”
Xu Xiaofeng jumped in, “So you’re saying it’s the little girl’s fault then? She’s an NPC too, you know?”
“Not her… I’m talking about the other NPCs, not including her!”
Da Yun nodded, “So you’re saying the whole world is wrong? Got it, it’s the world that’s messed up!”
“Oh, you guys are just twisting my words!”
“Look, dude, being up close and personal with Nuclear Bomb Little Sister and getting to touch her? You should just be smug about it!”
“Yeah, smirk away!”
“Enjoy yourself in prison, buddy.”
“Come on, Xiao Feng, don’t curse your bro like that. But hey, you can’t really say it wasn’t worth it, right? Heh heh heh.”
Zhao Bowen scratched his head, a pervy smile creeping across his face.
“Pervert!”
“Disgusting!”
“Get lost!”
“Alright, alright, class is starting soon,” Xu Xiaofeng interrupted, clearly not enjoying the direction of this conversation. He then asked, “How’s everyone’s class schedule this semester? A lot of evening classes?”
“I deliberately avoided evening classes, only got two that I can’t dodge.”
“Me too.”
“I have one more class than you guys.”
Xu Xiaofeng glanced at his schedule, “I have two too, today and tomorrow.”
“What’s your point, Xiao Feng?”
“You know what I mean.”
The four exchanged knowing glances.
Confirmed—the right people!
Da Yun hesitated but finally said, “Isn’t that a bit bad…?”
Three pairs of eyes shot daggers at him, sending a chill down his spine.
“I mean, it’s the first week, right? Not great.”
“True.”
“Let’s give the teacher some face then.”
“Agreed.”
A strategic partnership was formed in private—share the good times, share the bad, stick together in life and d*ath!
Translation: ditching class together.
“I’ll have Xiao Yue keep an eye on things. Next week, let’s test the teacher’s limits.”
“Nice one! Xiao Feng!”
“Nice!”
Triggering key phrases, Xu Xiaofeng rolled his eyes but he didn’t say more.
However, what they didn’t expect was that someone was even sneakier than them. And there were quite a few of those sneaky wolves around.
During class, the teacher looked at the less-than-half-full classroom, then glanced at the attendance list on the computer, paused, and put the list away.
“Class, I’m starting.”
In that moment, a low murmur of “oh no” echoed through the room.
The F4 confirmed their glances again.
“Why does it feel like… we’re kinda scraping by?”
“Don’t say that, we’re good students!”
So, not even halfway through class, our four good students excused themselves to the restroom, and then… well, you can guess the rest.

After logging in, Xu Xiaofeng continued his brick-moving and livestreaming duties.
Why she was late, she simply explained it was because she was preparing for a move. Everybody knew that.
After that Zhao Bowen guy got snatched away, she quietly asked the guards to keep a close watch on him.
The guards readily obliged. That was just part of the job, and plus, the dude had a history of trouble, so obviously they needed to keep an eye on him.
Actually, this little arrangement even had its perks for her.
Having this unexpected encounter with a familiar face meant that next time something like this happened, she wouldn’t panic as much and could handle it more calmly.
Especially after going to the Imperial Capital, meeting familiar faces was inevitable, and if she accidentally slipped up, it would be game over.
So! She had nothing to fear anymore!
Well, maybe…
With no more worries hanging over her, Xu Xiaofeng breezed through her shift.
She took the recommendation letter from Edward that she’d picked up that morning and vanished into the Teleportation Array.
When she reappeared, she was in the same spot as last time.
She scanned her surroundings, not making a fuss this time, and quickly chose a direction to leave.
Not long after she departed, the Teleportation Array lit up again, revealing a silhouette whose features were obscured. It was Old Six, Edward.
He definitely couldn’t let Xu Xiaofeng wander around the Imperial Capital alone.
Soon enough, he headed in the same direction as her.
“Turn two streets, a tavern decorated with red lanterns…”
“Looks like this is the place.”
Xu Xiaofeng walked into the tavern.
The waiter approached her, looking a bit odd: “Little sister, can I help you?”
“I’m looking for your boss. I want him to help me with a dish.”
The waiter’s expression became serious: “What dish?”
“Steamed cool tea.”
The waiter respectfully extended his hand: “Please follow me.”
Xu Xiaofeng followed the waiter upstairs, arriving at a room at the back.
The waiter knocked on the door, saying, “Boss, a distinguished guest is here, requesting steamed cool tea.”
“Come in.”
The waiter opened the door, motioning for Xu Xiaofeng to enter, then closed the door behind her.
The boss was a grandfather looking to be in his fifties or sixties. He looked at Xu Xiaofeng, paused for a moment, and then asked, “What would you like to drink?”
“Steamed cool tea, thank you.”
The boss poured her a cup of plain boiled water.
Xu Xiaofeng stared at the glass of water in front of her, twitching at the corner of her eye, “This is steamed cool tea? I was looking forward to it for so long.”
“Hahaha, little girl, for someone my age, this is the best thing ever. Want me to swap it for a fruit juice?”
“No need, thank you, grandpa. This is fine.”
The boss took a sip of his tea and slowly asked, “Little girl, what brings you to me?”
“Someone recommended me to come here. This is a recommendation letter; please take a look, grandpa.”
Xu Xiaofeng pulled out Edward’s well-sealed recommendation letter and handed it over.
She was curious about what it said but didn’t want to open it herself.
Plus, this Uncle Edward made such a big deal about a personal recommendation, it felt like something secretive, and she didn’t dare to pry into it.
The boss opened the envelope. Besides a letter, there was also a badge.
At the sight of the badge, the boss’s pupils contracted for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure, still appearing calm.
He stole a glance at Xu Xiaofeng before finally reading the letter thoroughly.
Once he finished reading, he carefully tucked it away and put it in a drawer, showing no intention of returning it to Xu Xiaofeng.
She didn’t mind, waiting for the next part.
“Little girl, the letter says to help arrange some accommodation for you, and then keep an eye on you. That’s no problem, just let me know if you need anything.”
“Oh? Looks like Uncle Edward can be reliable!”
“Naturally reliable,” the boss replied, taking another sip of tea, “I’m Ryan, what should I call you, little girl?”
“Familiar ones call me little girl, so you can too, Ryan grandpa.”
“Alright, little girl, how’s Edward doing?”
“Doing well!”
“That’s good.”
