### Chapter 465: Evil Spirit Altar
Just as Kaise handed over the daily report to Euphilia, she merely glanced at it and replied, “That’ll do.”
Although it was all unintentional on her part, it surprisingly turned out to have quite the effect.
After all, she was the head of the Magic Academy and the most watched person in the whole institution.
Suddenly skipping classes and disappearing would definitely spark some wild rumors.
Now everything seemed above board!
As for Kaise, she was just a student whom Euphilia had personally tutored since before her arrival at Saint Felis Academy!
“From now on, you’ll also be under quite a bit of attention, carrying random expectations. Be mentally prepared.”
Fame can be a double-edged sword, if you catch my drift.
Kaise blinked, then her face lit up with excitement. “Don’t worry, Euphilia-sensei, I’m ready for it!”
“You do realize that my subjects are quite diverse. Trying to keep up with my pace can be exhausting, right?”
“Got it! I’m all set!”
“Great! Let’s dive into history first. Did you take care of the matter we discussed yesterday?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll have results by the end of the day!”
“Once you have results, tidy them up and place them here,” Euphilia said, pointing at a clear spot on the desk. “For the next two weeks, this will be your sole focus. Now, feel free; I’m going to nap.”
And just like that, Euphilia plopped down right in front of Kaise and entered sleep mode.
Kaise: …
This doesn’t feel very reliable, does it?
No, no, no! This is the great Euphilia we’re talking about! Absolutely trustworthy!
“Gurrr!”
A sound emanated from the corner.
With Euphilia snoozing, Little Li sprang back to life, zipping right up to Kaise’s head.
Meanwhile, a few hundred feet below in the Rensyi Kingdom, five adventurers were taking a breather in a spacious part of what was left of the battlefield ruins.
This was familiar territory for Jaine and his group, but beyond this point, they had no guide; only the thrill of exploration lay ahead!
After some well-deserved rest, the five sprang back into action.
“From here on out, we need to divide tasks clearly. You guys determine the direction, and we’ll make the path!”
“Got it! And keep an eye out for these flowers,” Danny pointed to a bunch of white blossoms blooming in the area.
These flowers were quite common in the underground ruins, glowing faintly and occasionally providing a semblance of light.
“They’re called Dream Fragrance Flowers; in some places, they’re referred to as Soul Requiem Flowers. They can sharpen the mind and disperse negative energy to some extent. Following them generally leads us to good resting spots.”
Even though the necromantic energy in the ruins didn’t significantly affect the group, prolonged exposure might cause complications. Hence, resting amidst the Soul Requiem Flowers became essential.
With the plan set, they moved forward.
The paths they had traversed were already cleared, and while some dangers lurked, they were well within the realm of expectation; handling them was a breeze. The next leg, however, wouldn’t be quite so simple.
Even the availability of paths ahead was uncertain: were they in the deep ruins or closer to the surface? The danger factor was anyone’s guess!
Finally, they encountered their first monster after heading deeper—a skeleton warrior!
This was good news!
Three adventurers rushed forward and swiftly took it out.
Given the creature’s strength, it was tougher than the previous ones, but still manageable.
“Hey, Danny-sensei, don’t you think something feels off?”
“What do you mean?”
“There are too few monsters!”
“That’s true…”
Earlier, it made sense for there to be fewer monsters since that area had already been explored—probably cleared out by previous adventurers. But after wandering for so long, this was the first monster they faced? Definitely not right.
“Based on the lingering aura in these ruins, we should be encountering monsters at a much higher rate.”
“In that case, we have two possibilities,” Jaine chimed in, “Either the monsters haven’t woken up yet, or they’re all holed up somewhere.”
“The second possibility is more likely,” Yuliya concluded, propping her chin on her hand, certain that they hadn’t run into many monsters.
All of a sudden, the group’s expressions grew serious, but they weren’t turning back just yet; they pressed on.
Danny was busy analyzing the surrounding environment, eyeing the various totem markers along their path.
Different totems held different meanings, and deciphering them would help reveal the proper path.
A cool breeze brushed against them, and amidst the low murmurs and distant howls echoing from afar, the humid air made it clear—they could only see endless darkness around them.
This oppressive and nerve-wracking atmosphere felt like they were all marching towards the abyss.
Suddenly, Danny, who had been closely inspecting various markings, halted in his tracks, raised his hand, and cast a light spell.
They all had night vision abilities and typically wouldn’t resort to using light spells in darkness, as it could attract trouble.
But Danny didn’t care anymore; with the light illuminating the surroundings, he began scrutinizing intensely.
After a moment, he muttered, “This… is this the Evil Spirit Altar? No way, that doesn’t make sense…”
The others gathered closer, intrigued.
“Evil Spirit Altar? What’s that?”
“A place for sacrifices?”
“If it’s for sacrifices, then how could it not make sense?”
Yuliya stayed quiet, patiently waiting for Danny to continue.
Danny shook his head. “It’s not like a regular sacrificial site. The Evil Spirit Altar is a type of sacrificial spot used by the White Spirit Race, and generally has nothing to do with the Beastmen.”
The White Spirit Race is also one of the species in the Great Star Realm, but they are quite rare, standing out due to their contradictory traits compared to most races.
For instance, they can transform into spectral forms.
While the necromantic energy that poses deadly harm to other races is beneficial for them.
In fact, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to think of them as a type of ghost.
Due to their uniqueness, there weren’t even any White Spirit Race students at Saint Felis Academy.
Similarly, their sacrificial practices diverged significantly from those of other races.
Although the souls of the deceased members of the White Spirit Race aren’t truly dead, their bodies have completely perished, making the two incompatible. If left unchecked, the souls would surely bring disaster upon the living.
Thus, a second “d*ath” was required.
The Evil Spirit Altar serves as the place where the souls of deceased White Spirits undergo their second demise.
But clearly, the Beastmen don’t have this sort of hassle.
“I’ve studied the White Spirit Race before; I recognize this symbol—it’s unmistakable.”
Upon hearing this, everyone shivered slightly. “Are you saying that we’re currently within this… Evil Spirit Altar? No way…”
“Don’t worry, this altar definitely can’t be activated right now. But the key point is that it has likely been activated in the past.”
“Activated? And that means…?” The adventurers were still puzzled.
Yuliya then added, “So, it’s highly probable that the aftermath of its activation is lurking around here.”
As soon as Yuliya finished speaking, a chilling shriek echoed ominously from a distance.
