Chapter 478: Everything Can Be Blown Up
In the Outside World, Danny was keeping a vigilant watch with a group of people from a distance.
The ominous dark clouds and deathly aura were now just a stone’s throw from the town, causing all villagers and passersby in the wild to retreat inside the city.
From afar, one could see a chaotic dance of demons beneath the dark clouds.
Floating in the air were vengeful spirits, and there were skeletal corpses scattered on the ground like confetti.
Instead of confronting the monsters emerging from underground directly, they were cautiously digging their heels in and retreating step by step.
Everyone understood that the real problem lay beneath the ruins.
As long as the anomalies underground were dealt with, the ghastly clouds above would begin to dissipate, and the monster threat would naturally resolve itself.
A preemptive assault on the monsters was merely a band-aid solution, bringing more casualties than answers.
Yet, they were quickly running out of safe retreat options.
The city lay right at their feet, with people just behind them.
“Professor Danny, the academy head has been gone for so long, and the situation hasn’t improved at all. What if something happened?”
Danny peered towards the front from atop the city wall, his face equally troubled.
Such a grave situation, with such terrifying phenomena; although the academy head was formidable, they were still just legendary-level. Whatever lurked beneath the ruins was likely beyond even a legendary’s capacity to handle, at least legendary individuals couldn’t create such widespread chaos.
Could the academy head really handle this?
It was just as the academy head commanded, and not to mention they had waited long enough without any reinforcements from Saint Felis Academy.
“The academy head wouldn’t undertake anything without certainty. We just need to wait. Have the city defenders get ready. Remember, we must hold the defense and make no proactive attacks.”
The commander, donning his gear, wanted to say something more, but ultimately bit his tongue and nodded in agreement.
He found it odd that the only command from above was to follow the arrangements of Saint Felis Academy.
Then they merely offered some token reinforcements.
It felt as if… they had already been forsaken.
He shook his head, dismissing the absurd thought.
Confusion ruled the day; all he could do was follow orders.
As orders were communicated, everyone stood ready, eyeing the mysterious creatures fluttering all around.
Some keen-eyed observers noticed that many of them seemed to share characteristics of Beastmen.
At that moment, the ground suddenly trembled violently.
They thought it was an enemy attack, but upon closer inspection, the tremors were affecting the city outside as well.
The shockwaves spread widely, and the entire city shook noticeably, with those on the walls feeling it even more distinctly.
“What’s going on?”
“It seems to be coming from underground!”
“It feels like something is coming!”
The tremors grew stronger; this time, it wasn’t just the city—the ground itself, even various floating spirits, felt the strange effects, and even the ominous clouds in the sky began shifting.
Stabilizing themselves, everyone looked towards the direction of the tremors.
It was in the south where an unusual rumbling was emerging.
In the next moment, cracks formed rapidly on the distant ground, creating deep, gaping chasms.
And beyond the range of normal human vision, the chasms spread like a spider’s web.
Further south, the ground looked even more desolate, like shattered glass.
In the area of the former battlefield ruins, the ground suddenly caved in significantly, swallowing everything above into the earth.
Moments later, a golden light seeped out from the soil, like a newly hatched creature breaking free from its shell.
A single beam soon became a cluster, and a cluster following that became millions.
In the end, it formed a massive golden pillar, shooting up to the sky.
Like a blade impulsively thrust into the heavens, or a powerful hand tearing through the clouds.
After the surge, it forcefully tore a gigantic hole in the darkness covering an immense area.
As the golden light soared into the sky, it also began spreading outwards; any monsters that came into contact with it disintegrated like ice under fierce fire, turned to ashes in an instant.
Such an astonishing sight rivaled the dark clouds shadowing the sky, or perhaps the later golden light shone even brighter.
The townsfolk looked up, witnessing not just the endless dark clouds but also an ethereal golden hope shattering the darkness.
Glistening, dazzling, beautiful, and aspirational.
After a single impact, the golden light slowly dissipated, leaving no trace; only the sky was marked with an absent patch, along with a stirring in the hearts of the people like a shooting star.
“What was that…”
“So beautiful, so stunning!”
“A divine miracle! This is true divinity! Thanks be to the divine beings for still watching over us!”
Suddenly, countless piercing howls echoed, snapping everyone back to reality.
Only then did they realize they were still on the city’s defense line.
When they redirected their attention to the monsters, they were surprisingly astounded to find the creatures were in a panic, scrambling for their lives!
But the bound undead couldn’t freely step into the world of the living; they were trapped beneath the clouds, daring not to take a step forward for fear of being scorched by the blazing sun.
Even though the setting sun didn’t shine as brilliantly as that golden light moments ago, it still offered the best protection for the living.
The monsters couldn’t advance, and the mysterious residual power from earlier surged forth, dealing them a deadly blow as well.
Even more terrifyingly, after that powerful blow, the dark clouds above began showing signs of collapse; aside from that enormous gap, other areas were starting to dissipate as well.
The undead would eventually vanish alongside the clouds.
On the far side, above the ground, an Elf raised her head to gaze at the hole, taking a while to snap back to attention.
“That’s… truly terrifying.”
Even as a legendary being, she couldn’t escape the profound sensation shaking her inside.
From her perspective, such an attack was nothing short of divine.
“Looks like that guy is definitely toast.”
Yuliya yawned.
“Absolutely ten times dead,” Mitina chimed in, then looked at the ground. “But… do you think you went a bit overboard?”
“How could that be?” Yuliya pouted. “I made sure to control it; I definitely didn’t harm anyone. The city over there was untouched.”
“The layers of soil beneath the city must have been affected, though?”
“That’s unavoidable. No big deal, it’ll be back to normal in no time. Otherwise, you can have them check it out. You handle the cleanup; I’m tired.”
That last blast had taken quite the toll; the expenditure was immense.
It was all to ensure that eccentric Beastmen and the entire ruin were taken out in one swift go.
It seemed the effort had paid off.
“Okay, I’ll take care of it.” Mitina responded.
Watching Yuliya’s retreating figure, she felt even more grateful that her choice back then was absolutely right.
