Chapter 55: You Might Profit, but I’m Never at a Loss
Not long after hanging up the phone, Xu Xiaofeng received a notification of funds being deposited.
She stared at the number—over ten thousand—letting out a helpless chuckle.
To her, that amount was practically pocket change.
Just not long ago, she was part of the “sister-sucking clan,” who would have thought that a few days of gaming would turn her into a big-shot millionaire?
“What good is this money to me… I’m not lacking anything right now.”
Suddenly, Xu Xiaofeng had a lightbulb moment as she recalled the missions she had taken up in the game, and the refugees in Blue Moon City.
“I don’t need money, but they sure do!”
With a clap of her hands, an idea popped into her head.
All along she’d been thinking about how to accommodate them, how to get them into Emerald City, what spot to pick, but she hadn’t thought about just giving them money to set up their own homes.
Well, not that she hadn’t thought about it, but after learning a bit about those folks, Xu Xiaofeng knew they wouldn’t accept it without a legitimate reason, and simply handing over cash wasn’t a sustainable solution.
So, why not let them earn it themselves?
After all, she had also made her fortune over the summer!
Usually, it’s almost impossible to make a lot of money in such a short time—unless one takes a gamble with the law.
But wasn’t Xu Xiaofeng herself a classic case of striking it rich overnight?
She had plenty of experience in the sudden wealth department.
Though these NPCs couldn’t follow a script, with her as the mastermind… uh, I mean, the pioneer, there was bound to be a way!
Besides, for the refugees, living in Emerald City might just be less comfortable than out in the wild.
With the general idea in place, Xu Xiaofeng began mapping out the details.
Soon, a smile crept onto her face.
She really had to thank those golden pigs—they were such good people!
Look at that, not only helping her out but also the refugees in Blue Moon City.
What amazing folks!
Xu Xiaofeng’s grin only grew wider.
Students passing by occasionally caught a glimpse of her smile, their hearts sending ripples like stones thrown into a pond, nearly making them stumble.
Noticing this, Xu Xiaofeng politely nodded back, feeling chipper, not bothering too much about it.
After all, some of those students might just turn out to be great people, too.
“Hey, classmate, can I add you on WeChat?”
“Nope, let’s skip that. Bye!”
“Wait, she smiled at me! Why doesn’t she want to add me?!”
Boys were left scratching their heads…
Xu Xiaofeng returned home, but since it was still the early morning in the game, she couldn’t log in.
It was late at night; having a little loli wandering the streets would definitely cause trouble, and going outside the city was a big no-no.
Better to wait until the coast was clear.
But the waiting was excruciating! It felt like ants were crawling all over her.
Her lazy little sister was sleeping soundly—how annoying!
Should I just log in and take a nap?
Wouldn’t that be a crazy idea? Let’s browse the forums instead…
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, around two in the afternoon, or six in the morning in-game, Xu Xiaofeng quickly logged in.
The little loli jumped out of bed, freshened up, and dashed straight for the city gate.
As soon as the guards opened the gate just a crack, a tiny figure squeezed right through.
They blinked in confusion, “Did something just zoom by?”
“Yeah, it seemed like… look down a bit.”
They lowered their heads slightly, “Oh, it’s just a little girl! Hold on, why is she out alone this early?! It’s dangerous!”
Xu Xiaofeng flashed a polite smile, turned around, and sped off like the wind.
A polite little loli, you say?
She quickly made her way back to that cave from before, and many villagers were already up by now.
Peeking around the entrance, she finally spotted the burly leader she’d seen yesterday—marked as Villager 1 by the system.
“Good morning, Uncle!”
“Good morning, Miss Wind.”
“Uncle, I didn’t get to ask your name yesterday. What is it?”
“Call me Morey.”
“Alright, Uncle Morey, I’ve got good news! The nobles in Blue Moon City are already aware of the situation and have reported it. I’m sure they’ll send troops to suppress it soon!”
“Well, that’s great,” Morey replied with a smile.
“What’s wrong, Uncle? You don’t seem particularly happy.”
Sigh “It’s all gone. We’ve left everything behind; it’s hard to go back. A lot of people don’t want to return.”
“So what’s your plan? Just stay here indefinitely?”
“For now, yes. We’ll see what happens later.”
“Well, that’s just perfect!”
Xu Xiaofeng was a tad too excited, and after catching sight of Morey’s peculiar expression, she awkwardly laughed.
“I mean, I’ve thought of a brilliant plan to help you all settle here nicely.”
Hearing that, Morey’s eyes sparkled a little, “What plan?”
Xu Xiaofeng gathered her thoughts and explained her idea in detail, gesturing animatedly.
But as Morey listened, his expression grew stranger.
“Are you sure this will actually work?”
“The weirder the method, the quicker the results! It’ll totally work!”
“No, no, no, Miss Wind.” Morey shook his head, “This isn’t a matter of weirdness. You’re saying we should kidnap outsiders? That’s against the law!”
“Uncle, watch your wording! Kidnap? I mean, inviting them over!”
Isn’t that just the same thing?
“Of course not! Kidnapping is too rough; we’re very polite. And those outsiders will cooperate; it’s mutually beneficial—how could it be kidnapping?”
“Uh… are you sure they have that peculiar preference?”
Liking to be tied up, or even happily handing over their cash?
Morey’s mind was spinning trying to understand how such people existed.
“Uh, Uncle, you’ve gone off track again. What do you mean peculiar preference? They’re adventurers! Adventurers like exploring different ways to play the game. It’s not weird at all!”
“You’re not an adventurer and haven’t encountered that many outsiders, so it’s understandable that you don’t get it. But I totally understand.”
Next, Xu Xiaofeng rambled on about “next times are bound to win,” “a gamble might turn a bicycle into a motorcycle,” “weird big numbers,” and “spend twenty bucks to win thirty-seven million”—she adapted these phrases to fit into what was acceptable in the Otherworld.
Morey’s face was left utterly stunned.
Though he didn’t quite get it, he was completely taken aback.
“Uncle Morey, you can trust me on this!”
In the end, Morey gathered about ten people and relayed the plan to them, asking for their opinions.
As soon as they heard the target was an outsider, they couldn’t wait and jumped on board before he finished explaining.
Though these people were simple and honest, deep down, they harbored quite a bit of resentment toward the outsiders.
Even if the outsiders from the imperial capital could be different from those in Blue Moon City, that hatred wouldn’t just evaporate.
To Xu Xiaofeng, though, it didn’t matter.
After all, once the players coughed up their cash, they would receive corresponding compensation from her—at least from the players’ perspective, they’d never come out at a loss!
