Chapter 137: Is She the Type to Read Too Many Books?
“Welcome to Dan Peak. If you need any pills, just come here to buy them.”
“Oh…”
“This is the Mission Hall. Completing quests earns you mission points. With those points, you can exchange for pills, spiritual artifacts, and more.”
“Hmm…”
“Here’s Spirit Beast Peak. Besides raising spirit beasts, they also sell beast meat — quite tasty, I might add.”
“Mm-hm…”
Bai Yu Mo finished speaking, but unlike before, she didn’t just turn and leave. Instead, she turned to Bai Feng and said, “Let’s go explore a bit. I need to buy some spirit beast meat anyway. Bro, do you want to have some barbecue tonight?”
Bai Feng nodded eagerly. “Sure. It’s been a while since I had some. Junior Sister Shui, want to join us?”
Under Bai Yu Mo’s watchful gaze, Shui Miaomiao suddenly felt a little nervous. She hurriedly shook her head. “No… I have other things to do. Maybe next time.”
She sighed in relief after saying that, secretly hoping Bai Yu Mo’s stare was just her imagination — wasn’t her senior sister thinking of tasting dragon meat? But she’s not a real dragon… Right? Haha… Ha… Ha?
Maybe she’s really about to become dinner for those two?
First this, then that; then something else, and perhaps, the last step—slicing her up amidst those thoughts…
‘No, no! Stop thinking like that!’
Miaomiao clasped her head with both hands, desperately trying to banish those dangerous, colorful thoughts from her mind.
She took a deep breath, calming herself down.
Am I really one of those book-obsessed types?
While suppressing the relentless mental images, she secretly observed the two discussing dinner plans, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind — isn’t a Golden Core Stage cultivator allowed to skip meals?
Though some cultivators occasionally eat to satisfy their taste buds, they didn’t look like the type to do so only once in a while.
Moreover, it seemed Bai Yu Mo was the one cooking. A genius with Celestial Bone, doing housework every day? Is that some special training method?
An hour later, Miaomiao returned to her chosen room. She wasn’t sure how she managed to wander around Heavenly Sword Sect so long — it hadn’t been that long, but she was completely exhausted.
Fortunately, what she feared didn’t happen. Bai Yu Mo and Bai Feng, after finishing the tour, didn’t linger but left immediately after introducing her to Heavenly Sword Sect.
She let out a relieved breath and couldn’t help but give her own head a light tap, suppressing her burgeoning imagination.
“I really shouldn’t read that kind of book anymore.”
Miaomiao sat in her room, sighing. She stared blankly at her bed.
In this quiet, empty environment, she instinctively reached into her storage pouch, then suddenly realized something — she looked around, then quietly pulled the curtain shut.
Having finished all that, she finally took out a brand-new novel from her pouch and, subconsciously swallowing, thought:
Just a little more, then I’ll lock these books away once I finish reading.
…
After that little side story with Princess Dongzhou, Bai Feng’s life finally seemed to settle into a peaceful rhythm.
The Image Retainer was producing steadily, and the quality was perfect. The advertising campaign had begun.
Within the sect, Zuo Qiu was still waiting alone in her small house for the investigation results. Bai Yu Mo and the other Child of Destiny had survived a tough fight and were now diligently practicing.
Even Princess Dongzhou, Miaomiao, was refining her sword skills and improving herself.
“Things are so peaceful lately. No trouble from the Child of Destiny. The difference from before is huge!”
Bai Feng sipped his tea, savoring it carefully. He set the cup down and sighed contentedly — this was the life he’d been longing for!
“Little Junior Brother, I’ve come to see you!”
At that moment, the door was suddenly pushed open, and a tiny figure rushed in directly.
She glanced at Bai Feng, smiling, and seeing that he wasn’t hitting her with snarky comments as usual, she felt a little weird: “You’re in such a good mood!”
“Of course!” Bai Feng grinned while munching on a sweet treat. “Nothing big has happened lately, so I can finally enjoy some peace and quiet.” Turning to his senior sister, he asked, “What’s up?”
“Today, the Image Retainer was officially launched, so I thought I’d come tell you,” Yu Yao said straightforwardly, grabbing a piece of cake. She was rambling a bit while munching, “Oh, and one of the new employees I recruited has incredible talent. I’m trying to figure out how to keep him here.”
Bai Feng merely shot a glance at Ye Yao’s mischievous little hand, not angry but instead pushing the cake closer to her. “That’s simple — just sign him a high-paying contract and make him your array master at Yu Ling Long.”
“I did that, but the others told me he’d rather have your guidance than rewards like spirit stones,” Yu Yao muttered, sounding a bit annoyed as she kept stuffing snacks in her mouth.
“Seems like he’s a pure-hearted guy. Well, if he wants more, he’s probably not so easy to keep,” Bai Feng shook his head. “People like that aren’t swayed just by a few spirit stones.”
“Still…” Yu Yao sighed and then, her eyes suddenly shimmering with mischief, called out, “Junior Brother~~”
Bai Feng’s skin prickled at her overly flirtatious tone. “Stop, speak normally!”
Yu Yao cleared her throat, though her eyes gleamed with anticipation. “How about you take him as an official disciple? His talent is really remarkable! Trust your senior sister’s eye!”
“No thanks,” Bai Feng shook his head. He wasn’t interested in accepting apprentices — besides, he couldn’t just take every talented employee as a disciple, right?
“Yeah, that’s true…” Yu Yao lamented, then looked at Bai Feng again, a sudden light flashing in her eyes. “Junior Brother~~”
Bai Feng shivered at her squeaky voice. “Stop! Say normal words!”
Yu Yao coughed softly, her face full of expectation. “Come on, little junior brother, why don’t you take him as a registered disciple? His talent’s fantastic! You have to trust my judgment!”
“Not interested,” Bai Feng repeated, waving her off. “And besides, I can’t just turn every talented worker into a disciple.”
“Hmm…” Yu Yao sighed, then looked at Bai Feng with a sudden brightening of her eyes. “Actually, there’s a way…”
Bai Feng gently sipped his tea. Yu Yao immediately perked up and lunged at him: “Junior Brother, I knew you’d have a plan!”
“Registered disciples? No way,” Bai Feng said, pushing her head away. “But I can be a teacher, at least.”
“A teacher?” Yu Yao blinked in confusion.
“Yeah,” Bai Feng explained simply. “I’d teach him the basics, but not officially take him as a disciple. And he can write to me if he’s stuck — I’ll help him out. Once every six months.”
Yu Yao thought for a few seconds and nodded. “Sounds okay. With your reputation, you could probably attract quite a few people.”
At first glance, Bai Feng’s terms seemed stingy. But for bottom-tier array mages, it was already pretty generous. They didn’t even have the luck to learn basic knowledge without chasing after a master.
“It’s even more than that,” Bai Feng shook his head. “If he wants to learn more advanced stuff, he’ll need to join the research team.”
Yu Yao tilted her head. “Research team?”
