Chapter 167: Yu Yao: I’m Going to Hardcore Cultivate!
As the competition kicked off, Bai Feng watched Bai Yu Mo sweep her opponent away with a single sword strike. He couldn’t help but marvel: after Master Sister Yu Yao fused her Celestial Bone with her Body Cultivation method, her battle power kept skyrocketing.
Even if some other Child of Destiny showed up, they probably wouldn’t stand a chance against Bai Yu Mo now.
Hey, wait a minute—this shouldn’t trigger the system, right? If it did, that’d be totally unreasonable!
“Not bad,” Bai Feng said with a grin, giving a thumbs-up to the approaching Bai Yu Mo. Her usually blank expression suddenly softened into a faint smile.
She sat beside him and whispered, “Big Brother, are you not going up to fight?”
Although Bai Feng’s Array Talent was way more outstanding, she, as his regular sparring partner, knew pretty well that Bai Feng’s swordsmanship wasn’t too shabby—good enough to beat most of the Holy Land disciples.
“Nah, I’m saving it for the Array Tournament later,” Bai Feng shook his head. Honestly, he didn’t want to clash with the Child of Destiny in the middle of a fight. His Luck Points were already pretty low; if he fought and won, the system would just stuff him with more Luck Points. Total no-win situation.
Plus, the Array has its own Child of Destiny—Yu Ping An. That guy actually hates his guts.
He could only hope his earlier proposed contest method gets selected.
Meanwhile, on the stage, Yu Yao was casually defeated by the Holy Maiden of Yao Chi Holy Land after a few moves.
Bai Feng looked at the dejected Yu Yao and comforted, “Sister, don’t be too upset. She’s a Holy Maiden, after all—losing isn’t the end of the world.”
“But I still feel so annoyed,” Yu Yao sat beside Bai Feng, pouting. “In the last match, Bai Yu Mo defeated her enemy with a sword, but when it was my turn, I got beaten in just a few moves. So embarrassing.”
Bai Feng couldn’t help but tease, “But Sister, you didn’t lose with just one move, so technically, we won this round.”
“I refuse to accept that!” Yu Yao clenched her tiny fists. She turned to Bai Feng and asked, “When did you and Yu Mo start practicing swordsmanship? I’m going to hardcore cultivate! I want to learn all your best moves. Next time, I won’t lose so badly!”
“Relax, we’ll call you when it’s time to train. But once training begins, Sister, don’t dream of backing out lightly,” Bai Feng said with a smile, though inwardly he wondered—the fact that Bai Yu Mo could beat him so easily, even with fragments of the Sword Path, meant Bai Feng was always the one being pushed around. He just hoped Sister Yu Yao wouldn’t give up so quickly after being crushed.
“Don’t worry, Sister’s got lots of perseverance!” Yu Yao declared confidently, not knowing what awaited her.
……
“You guys are so lucky at Heavenly Sword Sect—getting all these genius disciples,” marveled the Holy Lord of Tai Chu Holy Land, staring at the records of Heavenly Sword Sect’s disciples’ performance. His face was full of surprise.
Bai Yu Mo, with her Celestial Bone? No need to mention her—nobody could block her sword now. But other disciples weren’t too shabby either. Take Lin Yan, for example: he was a fiery little fellow, wielding flames like a pro. Bai Feng even thought he looked like some long-dead senior.
Then there was Zuo Qiu—man, she was formidable. Rumored to possess a rare, mysterious divine body that hadn’t appeared in ages, she defeated a disciple his own apprentices held dear. He couldn’t even tell what sort of divine body she had.
In the Yuan Ying battles, Luo Chen’s ruthless sword art was pretty interesting—different from those stiff, emotionless sword freaks who cut off feelings just to become “Unfeeling.” Luo Chen had his own knack for it.
And that’s not even counting the hidden Array Genius of Heavenly Sword Sect—what the hell, how did they manage to recruit so many prodigies?
“Haha, flattery will get you nowhere,” the Sect Master of Heavenly Sword Sect said with a bright, almost wrinkled smile. “Your Tai Chu disciples are not bad either—especially that Tai Chu Holy Son. First time I’ve seen someone so in tune with the Tai Chu Sword.”
As he mentioned the Holy Son, the Holy Lord of Tai Chu also smiled. “Took me ages to find such a good disciple.”
Then, seemingly thinking of something, the Holy Lord of Tai Chu made a barrier to isolate their conversation. “By the way, Bai Yu Mo probably isn’t from the Northern Region, right?”
“Why do you ask? Want her to return to Zhongzhou?” the Sect Master of Heavenly Sword Sect shot him a glance.
“Only if she’s willing,” the Holy Lord shrugged. He looked at Bai Yu Mo, who was repelling enemies with her sword, and a faint smile appeared. “She’s already grown up—some people probably won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
“Just a bunch shortsighted fools,” the Sect Master snorted coldly. “They think that after obtaining the Celestial Bone, they can inherit its power? In the end, they’ll probably end up like those eyes…”
“The stupidest are those old guys, letting their juniors fight among themselves. Isn’t their own family bloodline the same as ours?”
The Holy Lord also seemed a bit annoyed. If it weren’t for this mess, those genius disciples would have been part of their Central Continent Holy Land already.
He clenched his fists, furious. To see White Feather Mo—who had the Celestial Bone—taken away by a Northern Region sect, was a slap in their face.
He couldn’t wait to see the scene when White Feather Mo, someday, “returns” to Zhongzhou.
And Heavenly Sword Sect would fully back her.
The Sect Master of Heavenly Sword Sect chuckled and stroked his beard.
……
“I’m sorry, Young Master, I lost,” Zuo Qiu said, looking glum. Like Yu Yao, she’d also lost to a Holy Maiden of Yao Chi Holy Land. But even with all her efforts, she was knocked out of the arena.
And thus, the first Child of Destiny from Heavenly Sword Sect fell.
“It’s okay,” Bai Feng said, waving dismissively. He wasn’t surprised. Out of the four Child of Destiny candidates, Zuo Qiu’s foundation was pretty weak—without her divine body, he barely saw how she matched the profile.
Her unlucky past was obvious—besides her tragic life, even if she’d followed the normal growth path, she’d probably still accept the Divine Monarch’s inheritance and end up being exploited by Black Lotus anyway.
White Feather Mo, the prodigy they all wanted, was stolen by the Northern Region sects. That was a total disgrace for them.
He inwardly cursed, imagining how satisfying it would be once White Feather Mo returned to Zhongzhou someday.
He said under his breath, “One day, White Feather Mo ‘returns,’ and we, Heavenly Sword Sect, will support her with all we’ve got.”
The Sect Master of Heavenly Sword Sect nodded, deeply amused. “Heh, what a stroke of luck for your sect, huh?”
……
“Sorry, Young Master, I lost,” Zuo Qiu’s voice was filled with disappointment. She’d also faced a Holy Maiden of Yao Chi Holy Land, and despite all her efforts, she still got knocked out first.
That marked the first “Luck Child” from Heavenly Sword Sect to fall today.
“Don’t worry,” Bai Feng said lightly, not surprised. Of the four Luck Children, Zuo Qiu’s background was the weakest, and her divine body was a bit of a mystery. Without it, he couldn’t really see how she fit into the “Child of Destiny” mold.
Her bad luck was pretty obvious—besides her tragic life story, even if she’d followed a normal path, she’d probably still take the Divine Monarch’s inheritance and get dominated by Black Lotus.
He secretly suspected she was the luckiest “villain protagonist” in this script.
“Young Master, I want to practice sword with you too,” Zuo Qiu said nervously. Bai Feng looked at her expression of anxiety and shook his head. “You’re not a sword cultivator; practicing with us won’t do much.”
Zuo Qiu’s face immediately fell, but Bai Feng turned serious. “Relax. I have new plans for you. I promise you’ll become stronger.”
He hadn’t forgotten Yun Yue Yao’s warning about the awakening of the spiritual veins in the future—that was just the excuse she could use.
“Understood,” Zuo Qiu nodded quickly, though inside she was still a little anxious. How could she get closer to Bai Feng? That was the real question.
