Chapter 207: It’s Better to Make a Symbolic Struggle Anyway?
Shu Miaomiao watched Bai Feng approach at a snail’s pace, sweat beading on her forehead: “N-No, I mean… I just… oh! That’s right! I felt like Bai Shixiong’s home seemed a little simple, not quite like the usual image of Bai Shixiong, so I was just curious if you’ve hidden all the fun stuff away.”
Bai Feng continued to stare intently at Shu Miaomiao until she was nearly ready to melt under his gaze. Only then did he withdraw his stare and say, “You’re not wrong. Come with me.”
Before Shu Miaomiao could breathe a sigh of relief, she suddenly clutched her chest, heart pounding: “Um, Bai Shixiong, uh… may I ask where we’re going?”
Could it be that Bai Shixiong wants to take me to his bedroom for a tour, then… look at that stuff, and… and…
What should I do? Submit quietly? Or put up a symbolic struggle?
“We’re going to my working room.” Bai Feng cut in, breaking her daydream. “I just made a fun little game. Help me test it out.”
“Oh…”
Shu Miaomiao nodded, but inexplicably, she felt a twinge of disappointment.
She followed Bai Feng into his Array room, where unlike the living room, tables and shelves were filled with various materials, array disks, and some puppet limb parts.
“Junior Sister Shu, hold this,” Bai Feng said, handing her a wooden sword. “Then stand in front of this wall.”
Shu Miaomiao took the wooden sword, eyeing Bai Feng as he connected what looked like an array disk to the Image Retainer.
Suddenly, the Retainer emitted a faint glow, illuminating the wall.
“Junior Sister Shu, chop at the ‘Start Game’ characters with the wooden sword.”
Bai Feng gestured from beside her.
Though puzzled, Shu Miaomiao followed his instructions, raising her wooden sword and slashing at the large words ‘Start Game.’
In an instant, her surrounding scene shifted—she was now in a lush bamboo forest.
She instinctively turned her head to Bai Feng, only to realize she was still in the room, with only the front wall changing.
“A tiny bit of Illusion Art,” Bai Feng explained with a smile. “Next, various fruits will be thrown at you—you need to cut them.”
Shu Miaomiao nodded, but then she asked, “Why fruits?”
“Because I threw them together casually. If you don’t like it, I can replace them with hidden weapons, zombies, ghosts, or whatever you fancy.”
“No need, I like the fruits!” Shu Miaomiao quickly shook her head.
Before they could continue, the first fruit was ‘thrown’ at her, and a countdown timer and a red progress bar appeared above.
“Now! Cut it!”
“Got it!”
Shu Miaomiao hurriedly raised her wooden sword and swung at the fruit. Juice splattered everywhere.
Watching the fruit vanish on the ground, she felt strangely exhilarated.
So cutting fruits is actually fun?
“Don’t zone out—more coming!”
Bai Feng’s reminder snapped her back. She quickly looked up and swung her sword again, chopping at the incoming fruits.
Each time she cut one, a number popped out on the fruit, and her score in the top right kept increasing. Cutting multiple fruits at once gave even more points.
She quickly got hooked—who knew that just slicing fruits, combined with the juicy splashes and the popping scores, could be so addictive?
Soon, the round ended. Shu Miaomiao heaved a couple of breaths and turned to Bai Feng, eyes shining: “Bai Shixiong, how did you come up with such a fun idea? I never knew cutting fruits could be so entertaining!”
Before Bai Feng could answer, she kept talking to herself: “It just feels a bit too simple. Play a few more rounds, and I might get bored.”
“Because this is Normal Mode,” Bai Feng explained while adjusting the Retainer. “Junior Sister Shu, do you want to try Immortal Mode?”
“Sure! Sure!” Shu Miaomiao nodded eagerly. “What’s the difference between Immortal Mode and Normal Mode?”
“It’s a bit more difficult. You’ll find out if you try.”
Bai Feng took a step back, smiling.
Seeing Bai Feng’s expression, Shu Miaomiao suddenly felt a little nervous.
It’s just a game—shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Her mind flashed to the simulation secret realm Bai Feng made earlier, suddenly tense up.
The game started again—still just a normal fruit being ‘thrown’ at her.
But as time passed, the fruits got more numerous—far more than in Normal Mode—and a bunch of small fruits appeared among them. She went from being carefree to flustered.
Yet the juice splashes and the popping scores still made her feel a rush—especially since smaller fruits earned higher points. She couldn’t help fixating on slicing the tiny ones.
Sometimes, aiming for the small fruits led to accidentally getting hit by other fruits.
“Ugh! That hurts!”
Shu Miaomiao hurriedly clapped her hand over her head, her movements becoming panicked.
Even though these fruits were illusions, she could genuinely feel pain once they hit her.
“Junior Sister Shu, you can use Sword Qi,” Bai Feng suddenly advised.
Seeing her in trouble, Shu Miaomiao unleashed a flurry of Sword Qi, instantly slicing all the incoming fruits before her. Large numbers appeared in the middle of the screen.
“So exciting…!”
But before she could catch her breath, more things flew over—this time, fewer fruits and more slender bamboo leaves.
The bamboo leaves shimmered like Sword Qi, seemingly ready to tear through her clothes and skin at any second.
Shu Miaomiao froze. She felt like Bai Shixiong had set her up again.
She quickly released a wave of Sword Qi, boosting her score as the small bamboo leaves floated toward her, slipping through gaps in her sword energy and speeding straight at her.
Finally, after struggling for a few seconds, her health hit zero, and she lost.
“Junior Sister Shu, don’t slash mindlessly. Sword Qi has many uses. You’re wasting Spirit Power this way,” Bai Feng said calmly.
“…Alright.”
Shu Miaomiao nodded instinctively, then suddenly wondered—this was supposed to be a fun little game, right? Why did it feel just like training?
Bai Feng noticed her look of despair and chuckled, waving his hand. “Alright, I won’t say more. You can take your time. If you have questions, just ask me.”
The game he made was based on Fruit Ninja, but for cultivators—especially sword cultivators—simply slicing fruits isn’t hard, so he modified it. He added an Immortal Mode, which included grapes and pomegranate seeds and such.
Plus, using Sword Qi during the game switched it into Sword Qi Mode—reducing fruit appearances drastically but replacing them with sharp bamboo leaves, making it a real challenge.
