Chapter 208: Do You Also Want to Be a Pet?
“Huff… huff… finally I’ve made it through!”
Shui Miao Miao panted heavily, feeling more exhausted than she ever had in her life, and she was pretty sure she’d just run a marathon. Turns out, playing a game can be more tiring than a multi-day quest!
But when she looked at her overly long score tally, a huge grin spread across her face. The little number blocks of victory made her feel like she just conquered the world—or at least a really tricky level.
“Senior Brother Bai, look! I did it…” Shui Miao Miao turned around eagerly, but… no sign of Bai Feng. Her face scrunched up in confusion. “Huh? Where’s Senior Brother Bai?”
She cast a quick glance around, then quickly reined in her curiosity, suppressing the urge to peek at his stuff. Gotta keep a good impression, no snooping!
‘No messing with Bai Brother’s things—he might get angry,’ she silently warned herself.
She muttered to herself, gave a mental shrug, and hurriedly pushed open the door back into the living room. There sat Bai Feng on the sofa, gently feeding a small white kitten with a handful of odd-looking, brown, misshapen balls.
“Senior Brother Bai, did you adopt another pet?” Shui Miao Miao tiptoed over, carefully reaching out her hand toward the tiny fluffball.
The kitten didn’t attack but looked up at her with big eyes, sticking out its pink tongue to lick her hand.
“Hey! No licking, that’s ticklish!” Shui Miao Miao exclaimed, but she didn’t pull her hand away. Instead, she grinned and continued to play with the kitten.
‘This guy smells like dried fish snacks, and he’s got those tiny horns on his head… Could he be… an already transformed seafood senior?’
Little Snow seemed curious and again extended her tongue to lick her palm. Bai Feng chuckled softly.
“This is Little Snow, Sister Jade Yao’s pet. I’m now responsible for feeding her,” Bai Feng explained with a smile, then looked up at Shui Miao Miao. “By the way, you’ve been playing for a while now. How do you like this game?”
“It’s super fun!” Shui Miao Miao’s eyes lit up. “It’s just chopping fruit and bamboo leaves, but I don’t know—it’s strangely addictive!”
Bai Feng nodded. Judging by her enthusiasm, it seemed like a lot of others would want to try it, too.
He mulled it over, thinking about some themes or skins to add to make it even better.
Suddenly, Shui Miao Miao sheepishly asked, “Senior Brother Bai, can I come over tomorrow and play again?”
“No problem,” Bai Feng said with a smile. “Just consider it your reward for helping me test the game. Actually, I have some other ideas too, and I’ll need your help to test those later.”
“Yeah! I got it!” Shui Miao Miao nodded eagerly. “Leave it to me!”
She then turned her attention to Little Snow snuggling on Bai Feng’s lap, nibbling on those brown little balls.
“Senior Brother Bai, what’s Little Snow eating? Is this some new snack?” Shui Miao Miao blinked.
“They’re cat food, specially for spirit beasts,” Bai Feng casually said. Then he suddenly cast a glance at the dragon horns on Shui Miao Miao’s head—wait, that’s right, the spirit pet feed recipe actually included food for dragons. Huh… wonder if Shui Miao Miao could eat it too?
No, no, even though it’s called spirit pet feed, there’s no weird stuff in it. It’s all edible by humans. So theoretically, humans could eat spirit pet feed… Heh.
“Hey, Sister Jade Yao, I’m curious—your Eastern Continent royal family all have dragon bloodlines, right? So you’re probably not human?” Bai Feng was holding back a mischievous grin, genuinely curious.
“Hm… I’m not really sure about that either…” Shui Miao Miao scratched her head. “But it’s true that many in the royal family don’t consider themselves fully human, and some even have good relations with the monster tribes. I guess I don’t mind—I’ve been like this since childhood. Aside from my dragon horns, I don’t seem much different from humans.”
“Hmm…” Bai Feng nodded, then hesitated for a few seconds before asking, “Actually, I came across a rather special book before. It records some recipes for dragon food.”
“No way—Senior Brother Bai, you got that kind of thing?!” Shui Miao Miao’s eyes sparkled with interest. “Is making dragon food easy?”
“Well, I’ll write down the formulas. Sister Jade Yao, you help me take a look,” Bai Feng pulled out some paper and a pen, jotting down the dragon recipes from the spirit pet feed.
Shui Miao Miao hurried over, peering at the formulas. Her expression went from relaxed to serious as she read.
“Senior Brother Bai, where did you get that book?” she asked, voice unusually tense. “The ingredients in here are almost identical to secret royal recipes—many materials match perfectly. I don’t know the complete secret formula, so I can’t confirm the later parts, but the beginning is very similar…”
Bai Feng was stunned. His system’s reward really wasn’t joking around—just a book on spirit pet feed that mentioned the royal secret formulas?
“Senior Brother Bai, you absolutely must not tell anyone,” Shui Miao Miao warned repeatedly. “Otherwise, someone will come looking for trouble.”
Bai Feng nodded. “Of course. I only told you.”
She slowly diverted her gaze—could this be that kind of secret only two people know? Is that why Bai Feng and I are… developing that way?
*BAM!*
She suddenly knocked her forehead with her hand, snapping herself out of her daydream.
To cover her embarrassment, Shui Miao Miao hurriedly pointed at Bai Feng’s formula. “Oh! Actually… maybe we should try it? Maybe it’s just a coincidence, after all I don’t know the secret behind the formula.”
“It might not be a good idea,” Bai Feng hesitated. After all, this is spirit pet feed—technically edible by humans, but still kinda weird for us humans to eat it directly.
“Come on! I’ll gather the materials. Even if I fail, it’s okay!” Shui Miao Miao clapped her hands, adopting a confident, wealthy lady pose.
“Uh…” Bai Feng hesitated. That phrase—spirits pet feed—kinda stuck in his throat.
In the end, he decided to tell her the truth. After all, if he didn’t, Shui Miao Miao might feel really bad, and that’d be his fault.
“Well… actually, I only saw that recipe in a book about spirit pets. So, maybe it’s better to forget it.”
“Spirit pet?”
Shui Miao Miao suddenly fell silent. Before seeing the recipe, she might have just thought it was a joke. But knowing it was so close to the royal secret formulas, her curiosity was piqued.
Then, she remembered a rumor circulating in the royal family—supposedly, their ancestors weren’t ordinary dragons but mounts for immortals. Because of that, they could claim this land of Eastern Continent.
Could this recipe really be related to immortals?
With that thought, Shui Miao Miao’s hesitation vanished. “Senior Brother Bai, I’ll give you all the materials I have. Please help me make a batch!”
Bai Feng: “?”
He thought, I just told you it’s a recipe for spirit pet feed… Do you also want to be a pet?
