Chapter 213: The Blindfolded Girl Who Looks Just Like Bai Yu Mo
A girl, leaning on a wooden stick, strolled along the stone-paved street. Her eyes were shrouded in a black cloth, and her clothes looked like they’d seen better days—probably a few centuries ago.
Suddenly, her nose twitched. She caught a scent—delicious-looking, mouth-watering food. Her stomach immediately staged a protest, emitting a loud, pitiful cry.
She swallowed hard, pats her hollow pockets, and her pace quickened—nothing like the promise of a good meal to get her moving.
“This food is just a smell; it won’t taste good anyway,” she muttered softly, trying to distract herself from the aroma. But her steps slowed, and a bitter smile crept onto her lips. Years of hardship and escape, and? What’s the point?
Her eyes had been gouged out. Her parents sacrificed everything to protect her. Grandpa Lü, who was guarding the rear, couldn’t escape with her. Even her maid, Xiao Blue, had tricked the enemy by dressing as her and went off in another direction.
“Mom, Dad, Grandpa Lü, Xiao Blue— I escaped! I’ve arrived at the place you told me to find…” Her grip on the wooden stick tightened until her fingers turned pale, the effort making her knuckles white.
She’d made it. But everyone—everyone she cared about—was gone. And her talent? Vanished along with her eyes. Revenge? Out of reach. Her little sister was here too… but would her sister even recognize her as the useless big sister?
Suddenly, a hand patted her shoulder.
“Yu Mo, you… huh?”
The girl spun around instinctively, eyes filled with suspicion.
“Sorry, I got the wrong person.”
It was a man’s voice. Strange thing: it sounded annoying. She’d never heard this voice before, nor seen this man. Yet… she had a strange feeling that she disliked him immediately.
“No worries,” she mumbled softly, then spun around and hurried away.
Bai Feng watched her leave, furrowing his brow. Hmm, she looked just like Bai Yu Mo! From the back, he could have sworn she was her twin in disguise. Also, she looked very similar—if only her face wasn’t slightly different in some places, and if her eyes weren’t covered, he might really mistake her for Bai Yu Mo.
“Another demon girl in disguise?”
He quickly checked his system. Wait—this girl turned out to be a lucky child of destiny, too.
“What’s going on here?”
He quickly sent a detection spell toward her back, and soon, her information appeared before his eyes:
【Sikong Chuchu, female, late-stage Qi Refining (with damaged foundation). Once a genius with Celestial Eye, but her clan coveted her, and they gouged out her eyes. Now she’s fleeing for her life.】
“Little Junior Brother, what’s wrong?” Yu Yao, holding two skewers of candied hawthorn, took a bite of one and then handed another to Bai Feng.
“I saw someone who looks just like Bai Yu Mo,” Bai Feng said, taking the candied fruit and biting into it. “Come on, Sister, let’s follow and see.”
“Oh, okay!”
…
In a quiet alley, the blindfolded girl paused, catching her breath after two deep inhalations. She listened carefully—trying to see if that annoying voice was catching up.
Wait, if he mistook someone else for her, then did he see her sister before?
A sudden realization dawned on her.
That voice was really irritating. Coupled with her long escape, her mind automatically pushed away the thought. She just wanted to run—far, far away.
Should she go back and find him? But what if he was an enemy?
She hesitated. Just then, hurried footsteps rang out.
“Hahaha! The clan leader’s right—you will come here, sure enough!” a boastful, arrogant voice rang out, drawing nearer. Heavy footsteps approached her slowly, as if intentionally trying to scare her. “That bunch of guards? Useless! They couldn’t catch a little girl, and I had to step in myself.”
The girl quickly retreated, but suddenly, a heavy wall seemed to appear behind her.
“Heh heh, you can’t escape. The clan leader changed his mind. After I finish drinking your bl**d, I’ll give you a quick end! Third Young Miss, you’ve waited too long for this day!”
The girl bit her lip—she didn’t scream or cry. She clearly knew the gap in strength between them. Any scream might mean she’d be seized immediately.
But she didn’t expect to end up collapsing just before the finish line. Maybe she wasn’t meant to cling on this long after all.
A bitter smile touched her lips. “Dad, Mom, Grandpa Lü, Xiao Blue— I came to see you.”
“Bold, aren’t you? Trying to pick a fight here,” the annoying voice chimed in again. She could see nothing, but instinctively lifted her chin.
“Ugh, the people from Heavenly Sword Sect? They spotted me so quickly?”
The man reached out to grab her—wait, no. A sword Qi shot toward his wrist, forcing him to halt his grab.
“Yuan Ying?”
He looked up, staring at Bai Feng, who was crouching on the wall. His eyes flashed with cold suspicion, and without hesitation, he turned to run backward.
“Huh? Looks like you recognize me?”
Bai Feng nonchalantly jumped down from the wall. The fleeing man, however, kept running as if he was a non-player character (NPC) glitching out of the game, just blindly rushing through the streets.
“Wow, she’s really just like Bai Yu Mo!” Yu Yao exclaimed, landing beside the girl with wide eyes.
The girl shrank back in fear. “Who are you guys?”
“Relax, we’re disciples of Heavenly Sword Sect,” Yu Yao said with a smile. Then she tilted her head curiously: “By the way, do you have a twin sister or older sister named Bai Yu Mo?”
“I… I do have a younger sister,” the girl hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “I heard she’s also at Heavenly Sword Sect. Do you know her?”
“More than that,” Yu Yao said with a smile, glancing at Bai Feng. “The one who saved you just now—is Bai Yu Mo’s brother, Bai Feng.”
“Brother?”
The girl blinked, a bit stunned. Wasn’t he the one rumored to try to steal her sister’s Celestial Bone? Why was he at Heavenly Sword Sect too? Were the rumors wrong? Or…
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… it’s nothing,” she quickly shook her head, already feeling the urge to retreat in her heart. She didn’t want to cause trouble for her sister.
“Don’t worry, we’ll tell Bai Yu Mo,” Bai Feng said as he approached, having overheard Yu Yao’s little chat with the girl. And, judging by how she looked just like Bai Yu Mo—yeah, she was probably her big sister.
“No need, I…”
The girl hurriedly shook her head, her mind racing for a plausible excuse.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal,” Bai Feng said with a smile, waving his hand. “But because of the sect’s rules, we can’t bring you in just yet. Please wait a moment; we’ll arrange a place for you.”
“Thank you, then,” she nodded, deciding to go along for now—she’d look for a chance to escape later.
Whatever happens, she absolutely could not let herself be used as a tool to threaten her sister anymore.
