Chapter 25: The Luckiest Lapdog?
“Who is it?” White Feng put down his book and quickly strode over to the window to look out. There, he saw a guy looking completely wrecked.
This fellow’s face looked thoroughly haggard, complete with a faint layer of dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept in days. His mouth was twisted into a bitter smile, clearly hiding some tragic tale.
“Is this also a Child of Destiny?” White Feng mused. “A sadistic one, maybe? The kind that makes the protagonist suffer?”
He couldn’t help but scoff internally.
But seeing him walk off in another direction, probably not headed for White Yu Mo’s place, White Feng relaxed. As long as this ‘Child of Destiny’ doesn’t d*e on his doorstep, all is good.
If he was just a regular person, he might’ve gone over curious and gossiped. But nah—this particular Child of Destiny might just turn the gossip into a snack. Nope, better stay out of that.
Just as White Feng was about to pick up his book again, he noticed the unlucky soul turning back and heading straight toward his building.
“Huh?” White Feng blinked. “Really coming to see me?”
Should I just pretend I’m not home?
Nah, better not. But then again, who knocks first anymore? Walking up and peeking inside is just rude. Maybe I should’ve drawn the curtains.
He wasn’t standing directly in front of the window, but he was in no hidey-hole either, so White Feng could see everything inside quite clearly.
The ‘Child of Destiny’ was straightforward—he stopped, turned, and strutted over to the window.
“Excuse me, is Senior Sister Yu Yao at Green Bamboo Peak?”
‘Senior Sister Yu Yao? Sounds familiar… I think Bai Yu Mo mentioned her.’
White Feng’s mind spun as he observed the guy. Could this be Yu Yao’s infamous ‘lapdog’?
Seeing he wasn’t coming for him, White Feng relaxed—no need to get involved.
He shook his head. “Sorry, I just arrived, so I don’t really know about Senior Sister Yu Yao.”
“Ah, I see…” The ‘Child of Destiny’ looked a bit disappointed, then suddenly perked up. “I am Luo Chen of Purple Cloud Peak. If you see her, could you let her know I came by? I’ll be forever grateful.”
“Why don’t you give it to her yourself?”
Luo Chen forced a bitter smile. “Senior Sister hasn’t been willing to see me lately.”
White Yu Mo nodded thoughtfully. She looked at the two bottles of pills Luo Chen held and asked, “What are these? Are they for your junior sister?”
“No, no,” Luo Chen hurried to clarify. “Please accept these pills. They’re for my junior sister, and tell her that Luo Chen has realized his mistakes.”
“Why not just give them to her directly?”
Luo Chen sighed, “Because she’s not willing to see me.”
White Yu Mo nodded again, then said, “Alright, I’ll pass that along. Thanks for the gift.”
Luo Chen seemed relieved. He handed over the pills and bowed out, quietly retreating.
White Feng watched Luo Chen’s downcast figure leave, muttering internally, “What a total lapdog…”
Just a big ol’ simp for that Sister Ji.
Honestly, he felt this ‘Child of Destiny’ was no threat at all—more like a walking doormat. No need to keep an eye on him.
Turning to Bai Yu Mo, White Feng asked, “Does he come to Green Bamboo Peak often?”
“Yeah, he’s… a very hard person to judge,” she replied simply. The story was quite straightforward—he was probably framed, stole some junior brother’s pills, and now everyone sees him as the guilty one. Likely, some similar trouble happened again, so he’s desperately trying to get Yu Yao’s help.
White Feng’s expression twisted. This relationship was weird as hell.
“Quite the complicated relationship, huh?” Bai Yu Mo shook her head. “I remember Luo Chen used to have a good reputation, treated the disciples of Purple Cloud Peak kindly. But now? Seems like he’s caught in some drama. Probably a lot of favoritism… or trouble.”
“Probably the ones who are spoiled think they’re invincible,” White Feng said, scratching his chin. Then he glanced at Bai Yu Mo. “Oh, by the way, don’t be like him—being a helpless, lovelorn dog won’t lead anywhere good. All it gets you is being looked down on.”
“Uh-huh…” Bai Yu Mo lowered her head, realizing she might’ve been a little too confident earlier. Her brother’s words suddenly made her think—maybe she’s been acting like a ‘lapdog’ too, all this time.
Sure enough, her brother still had some resentment. She’d been doing okay, but not enough.
【Ding! The luck of the Child of Destiny, under the host’s teachings, now fluctuates with fear and regret—suppressing his arrogant edge. Gained 20 Luck Points and +2 Spirit Power.】
White Feng blinked.
“Huh? Sister, what’s wrong? Did I accidentally teach you to be a lapdog?”
He felt a little confused. Usually, the system inflates small incidents to give him Luck Points, but if it’s really true—then Bai Yu Mo was genuinely emotional.
“No!” Bai Yu Mo quickly shook her head and peeked at White Feng. “Just… thought of something.”
“If someone forced you to be a lapdog, just ignore them. No need to feel guilty. Some people just… can’t be helped,” White Feng nodded wisely.
He momentarily forgot how popular Bai Yu Mo was in the sect. She probably had heaps of ‘lapdogs’ fawning over her.
Bai Yu Mo: “…”
What exactly does her brother mean?
White Feng was about to say more when suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
“Who is it?”
He got up, opened the door, and saw Sect Master Chu Ning Yan smiling at him.
“Won’t you invite me in for a chat?” she asked sweetly.
“Of course, Sect Master!” White Feng hurried to step aside.
Inside, he wondered silently—well, could this finally be the endgame?
Is he heading to the main peak, or elsewhere? All he knew was, the future is about to unfold.
