Chapter 253: If you’re not scared, then I guess I can start to get a little afraid!
Bai Feng Tepely lowered his head to glance at Zuo Qiu, who had collapsed into his arms, exhausted and knocked out. Luckily, Zuo Qiu’s timely shot really saved his skin—it was a lifesaver. Without her, he might have had to unleash the Immortal Fire to fend off the demon energy. Sure, he could hide behind Spirit Fire, but with so many eyes watching, someone might notice something was off.
But Zuo Qiu’s words? Totally different story. He could totally explain it away with a Divine Body. Genius!
More importantly, Bai Feng’s attention was now on that mysterious demon energy just moments ago.
That demon energy almost seemed alive—completely unlike any he had seen before. It shimmered with a life of its own, making him think: “Hmm, strange. This is new.”
While pondering, Li Zhi Yi crept over cautiously, casting a quick glance at the corpse sprawled on the ground, belly torn wide open. Her face paled instantly. She then tilted her head to shadow-watch Bai Feng and whispered:
“Senior Brother Bai… are you okay?”
“All good,” Bai Feng nodded, but something felt off in his gut.
He turned to look at Li Zhi Yi—her usual fear of him seemed to have lessened a bit.
‘Huh? What’s happening?’
Bai Feng’s brow furrowed in confusion. If she’s not scared anymore, then… isn’t that a little scary for me?
He started replaying what he’d just done, thinking, If I remember correctly, I simply supported her shoulder and casually ruffled her hair. Hmm… does my right hand secretly have some ability? Touching her head just boosts her favorability? Wow, I’m a genius.
After a moment of wild speculation, he shrugged it off—no big deal. She’s less afraid now, which is good news. At least the big boss won’t be throwing luck points at him just because she’s scared.
“By the way, Li sister, please check the folks on the ground—if they’ve still got demon energy lingering inside, let me know,” Bai Feng said, hoisting Zuo Qiu into his arms. “I’ll take her back to rest. Thanks a lot, Li sister.”
“Oh…”
Li Zhi Yi watched Bai Feng’s departing figure with a strange feeling of loss. Had she been too obvious earlier? Was Bai Feng annoyed by her? Bah, think about it, she’s probably just reading too many novels…
“Sister, are you… into him or something?” a tall woman approached, noticing Li Zhi Yi’s slightly wistful look.
“Senior… don’t say silly things! Nothing like that,” Li Zhi Yi hurriedly shook her head. “Bai Feng helped me, so I just wanted to thank him!”
The senior rubbed her chin, teasing, “Based on novels, usually that’s how you get into the trap of love!”
“Books are just stories! Not real life!” Li Zhi Yi mumbled quietly.
The senior chuckled. “Haha, just joking. Better not, though. I hear Bai Feng of the Heavenly Sword Sect has a bunch of admirers. With your personality, you definitely can’t compete with them.”
…
Li Zhi Yi lowered her head, recalling. Sure enough, Bai Feng had quite a few ladies around. If you exclude Bai Yu Mo—the little sister—there were still two. The one she called Yun Yue Yao, she was always glued to Bai Feng, shamelessly lacking any girl’s reservedness.
Seeing her being scrutinized, she quickly stopped her daydreaming. “Alright, sister, let’s check on the injured first!”
…
Meanwhile, Tai Chu Holy Son Pei An looked at Bai Feng with a grin. “You really are so composed—if it were me facing that strange thing, I don’t think I could stay so calm. Your mindset is perfect for battle. Wanna train together?”
Bai Feng rolled his eyes. “All these compliments… just trying to lead up to that last line, huh?”
Pei An chuckled but didn’t deny it. Then, with a serious expression, he asked, “Brother Bai, do you know what that black mass rushing at you just now was?”
Bai Feng shook his head. “Not really. It looked like demon energy, but… it’s a bit different from ordinary demon energy.”
“This enemy is indeed tricky.” Pei An sighed. Honestly, his praise earlier wasn’t bad. If it were him, he wouldn’t be able to stay so cool—although he didn’t face it directly, he could feel that black demon energy wasn’t something that could be wiped out easily. Not as casually as Bai Feng and his guards.
Suddenly, Bai Yu Mo burst into the room, face not looking too happy.
Pei An sensed something was off and clapped Bai Feng on the shoulder. “I’ve got to go. If you want to practice fighting, find me later.”
He sidestepped past Bai Yu Mo at the door and strode out quickly.
After Pei An left, Bai Yu Mo gently closed the door behind her.
“Big sis, what’s wrong?”
“Brother… are you okay?”
She hurried over, circling around Bai Feng, inspecting him closely.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine,” Bai Feng tousled her hair, but she didn’t seem reassured.
She reached out, hugging him, burying her face into his chest. Her voice muffled but with a hint of guilt, “Sorry… I shouldn’t have left in the middle.”
If only she hadn’t gone to set up the kitchen first… she’d wanted to give Bai Feng a surprise.
“It’s okay. I was a bit anxious myself,” Bai Feng said softly, patting her back.
Because Tai Chu Holy Son Pei An was too swift and decisive, grabbing those corrupted by demon energy in one go, and wanting to end the issue quickly to prevent any nightmarish surprises, he took direct action.
Bai Yu Mo tightened her grip on Bai Feng’s clothes, looking resolute. “From now on, I won’t leave your side even for a moment.”
“…No need for that,” Bai Feng replied gently. Unless he needed to use the bathroom—then White Yu Mo standing in front of him would be terrifying enough.
Ugh, so scary.
She didn’t speak, her hands still clutching his clothes, as if she’d already made her decision.
“All right, enough of that,” Bai Feng waved her off, swiftly changing the subject. “We’ve been traveling all day. There’s probably another tough battle coming soon. Let’s get some rest first.”
Hearing that, her expression softened. She looked up at Bai Feng’s face. “So, what do you want to eat?”
He pondered briefly. “Anything’s fine. It’s been a while since I ate your cooking—I want to try everything.”
“Then let’s make some noodles,” she said with a smile finally breaking through her serious mask. She grabbed Bai Feng’s arm and pushed open the door, heading towards the prepared house ahead.
