Chapter 254: Nine-Tailed Fox: I’ll let you pet my tail, so from now on, you can do whatever you want to me
After a long-awaited satisfying meal, Bai Feng leaned back in his chair, daydreaming and basically slacking off. Classic lazy mode engaged.
“Bro, what are you planning to do next?” Bai Yu Mo was cleaning up the dishes while casually asking.
“Just craft a few more array disks. These enemies are pretty tricky this time,” Bai Feng stroked his chin thoughtfully. Then he shot Bai Yu Mo a grin and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t be leaving the house today. And if I do, I’ll tell you first.”
“Then I’ll go meditate in my room,” Bai Yu Mo nodded, knowing perfectly well that standing next to Bai Feng might just distract him.
Half an hour later, Bai Feng sat at his desk fiddling with array disks, pondering whether he could finally produce the Extermination Sword Array.
Materials? No worries! The materials for the Extermination Sword Array are abundant—though substituting some lowers the ultimate power, at least it’ll be more than just a pretty decoration hanging on the wall.
Suddenly, a voice interrupted outside the door.
“Little Junior Brother, I heard you were ambushed by enemies. Are you okay?” Yu Yao pushed the door open briskly, concern flickering across her face.
He glanced sideways at Yu Yao and then fake-wounded with a feeble tone, asking, “If I said I were injured, would sister in the maid outfit take care of me?”
“…You still have the energy to tease your big sis? Looks like you’re fine,” Yu Yao squinted, half annoyed.
But Bai Feng wasn’t giving up. Still teasing, he said, “How about sister in a qipao? I bet you’d look great in one!”
“One with white silk and a high slit, right?” Yu Yao crossed her arms, eyes half-lidded, clearly understanding Bai Feng’s intentions.
Since he cracked himself open about being from the Spring and Autumn period, Bai Feng often doodled some… well, revealing outfits for her to see. Occasionally, she’d wear them and flaunt herself again just to amuse him, so this kind of banter had become quite familiar.
“You truly understand me, big sister!” Bai Feng gave her a thumbs-up.
“You still remember I’m your big sister?” Yu Yao punched him lightly with her little fist, then subtly looked away and murmured, “Let’s save that talk for another time…”
“I look forward to it,” Bai Feng grinned.
“Enough of that,” Yu Yao shook her head and sat beside him, a little downcast. “Little Junior Brother, am I maybe holding you back?”
“Why do you say that?” Bai Feng looked puzzled. How come Yu Yao’s feeling gloomy?
“Because I feel like I’m useless—can’t even keep up with Bai Mo. With the stuff today, I can’t protect you even if I’m by your side. I’m supposed to be your big sister…”
Seeing her gloomy mood, Bai Feng gently lifted her up, placing her on his lap, and comforted her, “Big sis, don’t think too much. You’ve helped me so much. How could you be holding me back? I’m just waiting for your next bonus!”
“But…”
Yu Yao wanted to say more, but Bai Feng interrupted: “Big sis, life isn’t just fighting. Things outside of battle are just as important.” He tousled her hair softly, adding, “If our lives consisted only of fighting, that’d be pretty dull, wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah, you’re right…” Yu Yao nodded, leaning into Bai Feng’s embrace, her mood slightly brighter. “This time, I’ll let you pet my head…”
“I won’t turn you down,” Bai Feng grinned.
Yu Yao rested for a moment then turned her head slightly, looking at Bai Feng. “By the way, what’s your plan? The enemies probably won’t just give up, right?”
Bai Feng stroked Yu Yao’s silky hair gently and explained, “For now, I’ll craft a few more defenses. I think they’re probably more anxious than us.” He also remembered Zuo Qiu talking about a rat-filled cave—not sure if it’s their enemy’s base, but it’s an important stronghold, so it’s worth investigating.
Yu Yao sighed, “If only we could come and go freely from this secret realm…”
“Definitely,” Bai Feng nodded. “Then we could go summon reinforcements, or just seal off this place.”
Sadly, this secret realm wasn’t like those that allow free entry and exit. Even if they forcibly open a passage, they’d have to wait for the realm’s ‘barrier’ to weaken. According to the calculations from Tian Yan Sacred Land, the next time it’ll weaken is in a month.
Meanwhile, can Bai Feng use the Tian Yan Sword to open a portal? If yes, no need to bother with fighting behind the scenes.
He’d think about asking Yun Yue Yao soon. For now, maybe it’s better to hang out with her a bit longer.
…
Meow~~
“Eat slowly,” Bai Feng gently petted Little Snow’s head while relaxing.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted the peace. The knocking sounded lower than Yu Yao’s height—probably someone shorter than her?
Could it be Xiao Jiu knocking? Would Xiao Jiu be so polite?
Bai Feng mentally grumbled but then got up, pushed open the door—and sure enough, it’s Nine-Tails Fox knocking.
However, this time, Nine-Tails Fox hung her head, no longer showing her arrogant high-necked stance.
Standing beside her, Yun Yue Yao stepped forward, embracing him and gently rubbing her face against him: “Hehe, I’ve finished my business. I can move in and stay with you now.”
“…”
Bai Feng instinctively looked over at Bai Yu Mo’s room, feeling that the days ahead might be a little tense.
“Fine, come on in,” he sighed and led Yun Yue Yao and Nine-Tails Fox inside.
Little Snow, who was eating, tilted its head during the introduction, eyes briefly catching Yun Yue Yao and Nine-Tails Fox before resuming its meal.
It remembered that this proud little fox liked to act cute and clingy, but it didn’t mind. Such proud spirit pets weren’t threatening at all in its eyes.
Bai Feng settled onto the sofa, while Yun Yue Yao naturally leaned against him.
He looked at Nine-Tails Fox, who was sitting quietly and ignoring her cat food, curious and asked, “What’s wrong with Little Jiu? Did someone bully her?”
Yun Yue Yao cast a glance at Nine-Tails Fox, explaining coldly, “Just told her some rules.”
“Oh…”
Rules? Bai Feng was curious.
Sensing Bai Feng’s confusion, Yun Yue Yao elaborated, “Just made her a little more polite.”
Seemingly confirming her words, Nine-Tails Fox ambled over and then turned around, extending her tail toward Bai Feng:
“Sorry, it was my fault earlier. I shouldn’t have called you that. Feel free to do whatever you want with my tail from now on.”
Bai Feng: “…?”
That doesn’t seem like ‘a little more polite’… more like a full-blown surrender.
But… he looked at her flickering tail and thought—hey, that’s pretty good too.
Meanwhile, Little Snow suddenly lifted its head, eyeing the now nearly one-eighty-degree changed attitude of the Nine-Tails Fox, feeling a new wave of wariness coming on.
