Chapter 258: Help Me Break Through to Formation-Void, and I’ll Crown You the Holy Lord of Tian Yan Holy Land!
“Did the Tian Yan Holy Maiden just show up earlier?”
Yun Yue Yao tiptoed out of the bedroom, stealth mode activated. Then she reached behind and hugged Bai Feng’s neck from behind, because why not?
“Yep. She snacked on a few pieces of cake, spat out a couple of messages, and it looks like the monsters outside are starting to gather—typical Monday stuff.”
Bai Feng turned his head and saw Yun Yue Yao’s face practically glued to his. He blinked. She was inches away, eyes shining with excitement or possibly the remnants of her sugar rush.
Then he noticed her lips curling into a tiny smirk as she gently pecked his cheek.
“Uh… what are you doing?”
“Just thought a quick kiss wouldn’t hurt,” Yun Yue Yao giggled mischievously, resting her chin on Bai Feng’s shoulder. Then she leaned in whispering, “Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend you get too close to Tian Yan. The Holy Maiden of Tian Yan Holy Land? She’s a whole different breed from the other Holy Maidens.”
“Different how?”
Bai Feng raised an eyebrow, pondering. Actually, yeah—Tian Yan Holy Land’s method of selecting their Holy Maiden was… unique. Plus, they all carry the Tian Yan title like a badge of honor.
Could she be a vessel for the return of the Fairy Tian Yan?
“Her territory was built by the Fairy Tian Yan to observe the Heavenly Dao,” Yun Yue Yao explained softly. “I don’t know her purpose, but everything she’s doing is to get closer to the Heavenly Dao. Well, more like copying it. That’s why she’s willing to suppress her feelings, stay cold and logical forever—she’s trying hard to echo the Heavenly Dao.”
Bai Feng nodded thoughtfully. “No wonder Tian Yan’s always expressionless. Thought she was just naturally a lol-faced turtle.”
“But…” Yun Yue Yao looked at him with a complicated expression. “I get the feeling this generation’s Tian Yan Holy Maiden—she’s pretty much finished. Like… totally useless now.”
“Why’s that?” Bai Feng blinked. Tian Yan was perfectly fine, wasn’t she? Maybe she just loved cake a bit too much.
“Because someone used cake to tempt her into falling,” Yun Yue Yao poked Bai Feng’s face with her slender finger. “She can’t suppress her emotions anymore.”
“What do you mean ‘tempted her into falling’? Sounds like I planned it,” Bai Feng rolled his eyes. “How was I supposed to know a simple cake would spark her feelings again?”
“Anyway,” Yun Yue Yao’s tone turned serious. “From now on, don’t get too close to her. Mimicking the Heavenly Dao usually angers the real Heavenly Dao.”
Bai Feng shrugged. “That’s gonna be tricky since she said she’ll follow me to the Northern Region from now on. Claims it’s for cultivation, but… I really think it’s the cake.”
*Silence.*
Yun Yue Yao suddenly paused, her expression inscrutable. She looked at Bai Feng with a mixture of concern and frustration. “I can now confirm… the Tian Yan Holy Maiden is officially—done. Completely useless.”
Bai Feng stayed quiet, heart pounding a little. He cautiously asked, “Am I gonna get hunted down by the Tian Yan Holy Land now?”
“Relax,” Yun Yue Yao waved dismissively. “Their philosophy is pretty much aligned with the Heavenly Dao. They usually don’t go around making trouble unless provoked.”
She tilted her head, then settled herself onto Bai Feng’s lap, giving him a sly smile. “And don’t forget about me. As long as you help me break through to Formation-Void, I’ll make you the Holy Lord of Tian Yan Holy Land.”
“……… You’re kidding, right?” Bai Feng poked her tiny head.
Suddenly, outside, a commotion erupted—fighters and disciples shouting and calling out.
“Is it starting?”
Bai Feng narrowed his eyes. Something big was happening—he sensed monsters stepping into his carefully set-up formation.
Seriously, those monsters are impatient.
“Let’s go,” he said, scooping Yun Yue Yao into his arms. “Bring Yu Mo too—we’re going out to see what’s what.”
Meanwhile, Bai Yu Mo pushed open the door and stepped out. She shot a quick glance at Yun Yue Yao beside Bai Feng but showed no particular expression—she was all business.
She hurriedly walked over, asking, “Brother, is the fight starting?”
“Probably. Or maybe just a test,” Bai Feng said cautiously. The monsters rushing in weren’t many, and soon, his Tian Jian Sect disciples hiding within the formation disposed of them efficiently.
“Let’s see what’s going on first.”
……
“Of course it’s Bai Senior’s formation,” someone whisper-shouted. “Spirit Sealing Sect? That’s a joke! Can’t even handle a few monsters!”
“Look over there—another three monsters in the toxic pond. Who’s volunteering to clear that?”
“Hold on, more monsters are breaking through. Ready your weapons!”
The woods outside the formation were dense and foggy. White mist clung to the air, blocking the view and messing with divine senses—typical monster party.
Inside the forest, some Tian Jian Sect disciples and a few naughty others from different sects were handling the intruders. They crouched cunningly, hidden by the formation, striking monsters passing by—silent assassins.
On some clearings, there were bloodied rats and rabbits. When monsters caught whiff of bl**d, the seemingly solid ground suddenly collapsed, triggering the formation and trapping the monsters in the toxic pond below.
Sometimes, instead of collapsing, the ground would suddenly be swallowed by a giant hand, or vines would snatch creatures underground. Or worse—random ‘tough guys’ with swords stabbing from behind or above.
“White Brother’s formation really is sneaky,” Lin Yan muttered, eyeing the monsters. Honestly, they’re dying miserably and cluelessly. Being corrupted by magic energy makes them even dumber, and the fog makes it worse.
“Sneaky or not, they’re the ones being dumb,” Bai Feng retorted, “I just set a layer of white fog and a few poison pools. And the poison pills? All your idea.”
Lin Yan smirked. “It’s because of you they’re so vicious, White Old Thief of the Nether Realm!”
“Enough of that. What’s the situation?” Bai Feng asked, rubbing his chin.
“Hard to tell,” Lin Yan shook his head. “Monsters keep flooding in—seems like some conspiracy or they’re just stupid. Possibly both.”
“Probably both,” Bai Feng said thoughtfully. “Let’s wait and see. And remember, clear out the monster corpses when you get the chance.”
“Got it,” Lin Yan nodded. “We can only sit tight and hope they get impatient enough to jump out on their own.”
Bai Feng didn’t linger long outside the formation. He hurried back to camp for some tweaks—clearly, the enemy is trying a new strategy: flooding the place with monsters to blow it all up in one go.
As the assault intensified, the situation flipped. Bai Feng’s traps failed under the onslaught, and combat shifted from stealth to all-out brawl.
Monster magic energy buffs spread infection, forcing disciples to retreat step by step, wary of being completely corrupted.
And thus, the battlefield turned into a chaos of traps, tricks, and fierce fighting.
