Chapter 291: What on Water Miao Miao’s Books Today?
“Have you figured anything out yet?”
Bai Feng strolled over holding a cake, placing it neatly on the table in front of Tian Yan.
“Not yet,” Tian Yan shook her head, her face deep in thought. “Something is blocking me.”
“…Why do I feel like you’ve only succeeded a few times?” Bai Feng’s mouth twitched slightly. He’s been feeding this golden twin-tailed girl cake every day, and honestly, what’s the point?
“No, this time is different.” Tian Yan shook her head. “Being blocked is also an answer. Tell me specifically what you want to ask.”
Seeing how serious Tian Yan looked, Bai Feng decided to give her another shot of trust. “The Black Dragon Chancellor of Eastern Continent—do you think he’s up to something?”
Tian Yan nodded, then stretched out her finger and started counting. After a few minutes, her brow furrowed slightly. “Indeed, no good.”
“So, what did you find?” Bai Feng pressed.
“Different from before. If previous attempts were shrouded in fog, making it hard to see the way, this time there’s a wall blocking the path we must take.” Tian Yan picked up her spoon and tapped into the cake gently. “Someone is deliberately blocking my deductions. Not many can do this.”
Bai Feng pondered for a moment. “So, someone’s guarding against you? But then… why would Eastern Continent guard against the Tian Yan Holy Land of Central Continent?”
“Probably the Divine Monarch got involved,” Tian Yan said as she took a bite of her cake. “They do have ways to interfere with our calculations. Only they would go to such lengths to prevent us. Otherwise, this Demon Organization wouldn’t still be around.”
“Of course, it’s them again,” Bai Feng sighed, not particularly surprised. Ever since he learned the Divine Monarch was related to Black Lotus Fairy, he knew these folks weren’t simple and wouldn’t honestly play fair.
If it truly was the Divine Monarch meddling, Water Miao Miao and the others might be in danger.
“This matter, I must tell the other Holy Lands,” Tian Yan pulled out the Image Retainer. She hesitated for a moment before lowering it back down, then raised her head and asked Bai Feng, “Can this method of communication be expanded to Central Continent?”
This thing is way better than those messages tokens with a distance limit that can only be used once.
Bai Feng smiled faintly. “Yes, but you need to persuade them to install an Array, and… add some compensation.”
…
After Tian Yan left, Bai Feng immediately sent the possible involvement of the Demon Path’s Divine Monarch from Central Continent to Shui Xi Yu, warning her to be cautious and focus on defense.
Within minutes, he received their gratitude and a request for help from Heavenly Sword Sect and the Saint Land of Central Continent.
“Is it really okay to ask a disciple of Heavenly Sword Sect about this?” Bai Feng couldn’t help but complain. He had heard Shui Miao Miao say that this Little Princess was quite capable—then why was she asking him?
He paused for a few seconds, considering. “If there really is news about Divine Monarch, at least the Central Continent Saint Land wouldn’t ignore it. But right now, it’s just speculation. Plus, the situation in Eastern Continent is chaotic; no one can truly take the lead. It’s hard for Heavenly Sword Sect and the Saint Land of Central Continent to intervene. However, Tian Yan Holy Maiden did inform the other Holy Lands, so they’ll likely keep a close eye on Eastern Continent and the Demon Path’s Divine Monarch for a while.”
After all, Heavenly Sword Sect and Central Continent’s Saint Land are righteous organizations—they care about reputation and face. They probably won’t make a move directly without proper cause.
“I understand, thank you, Teacher,” came the reply from the Little Princess through the Image Retainer.
Bai Feng stored the device away, thinking the Q&A session for today was over.
But not long after, the Image Retainer buzzed again.
This time, not with text, but a video call.
“Little Princess finished chatting, and now Princess Six is at it again, huh?” Bai Feng rubbed his forehead. Usually, Shui Miao Miao was the only one daring enough to video call him. And honestly, it wasn’t even for anything truly urgent—she claimed it was to ask about swordsmanship, but mostly, she just complained about recent happenings, treating him like a tree hollow to unload her secrets.
He reached out and accepted the call. Soon, Shui Miao Miao’s small face appeared on the screen.
“Finally got the Image Retainer back from my little sister.”
The girl on the screen was lying on her bed, still dressed in a light gold robe she hadn’t yet changed out of.
“So, what’s the matter this time?” Bai Feng eyed her, amused at her lack of princess etiquette. “By the way, are you serious about practicing swordsmanship?”
“Of course! Bai Senior Brother, you don’t believe me? I can show you a few moves!”
“Then show me. I want to see your latest progress.”
“Alright, I’ll change my clothes first.”
Shui Miao Miao’s face showed no panic—in fact, she looked confident. She casually tossed the device onto the bed and then a rustling sound of her changing clothes came through.
“Um, Junior Sister Shui, just a heads-up—the Image Retainer isn’t just a camera. It’s a 360-degree all-around recording device, like a Reflection Stone.”
“Huh?”
Shui Miao Miao, still undressing, froze. Her face turned red almost instantly. She hurriedly pulled her half-off clothes and flung them towards the device.
A few minutes later, she finally removed the covering from the device, now dressed in a more fitted outfit. Her face was still flushed, and she dare not look directly at the Reflection Retainer.
Bai Feng didn’t tease her further. Instead, he asked with a smile, “Ready now?”
“Mm.”
Shui Miao Miao took a deep breath, nodded, and placed the Reflection Retainer on her wardrobe. Then she took up a wooden sword and began swinging.
Bai Feng watched for a while. Her swordsmanship was smooth—no sign of unfamiliarity at all.
While observing her sword techniques, he also glanced around her room—surprisingly tidy, not messy at all. There were even a few books by her pillow she’d looked at multiple times.
Does she love studying that much?
He shifted his gaze to those books beside her pillow. His eyes grew suspicious as he noted the titles. The top one looked pretty odd.
If he wasn’t mistaken, the title was “Guard the Tree, Wait for the Dragon,” with a subtitle below reading: “A Genius Hunter Skilled in Array, Trapped by a Dragon Princess.”
He flipped through more, and although some words were hidden because of the books being pressed down, he could roughly see the title: “The Human & Monster’s Pact (aka: The Straightforward Tale of a righteous genius senior brother and his love for a monster girl).”
If the first two sounded like typical romance novels, the last one was probably the most direct—so much so that he hesitated to even say the title aloud.
