Chapter 388: Bai Yu Mo — I Do!
“Last piece of cake…”
Tian Yan (Holy Maiden Tian Yan), whispering to herself, looked as expressionless as ever, but Bai Feng still sensed her mood had plummeted faster than a falling rock.
“Time to speed things up,” she suddenly announced, raising her head and grabbing Bai Feng’s wrist. “Next, we’re going to check out what’s ahead. I’ve got a gut feeling—there’s definitely something we need up front.”
Without waiting for Bai Feng to say anything, she dragged him along at full sprint, heading into the distance.
A moment later:
“Hey, look! There’s actually Spirit Wheat here…”
Bai Feng gazed at the wheat in the field, totally speechless.
“After all, every sect has cultivators at the Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment stages. Even those who can bypass eating will still chow down on normal food. So, it makes sense that a little corner of the sect would be dedicated to cultivating Spirit Wheat,” Tian Yan explained, intentionally or not giving him that ‘aren’t I smart’ glance.
“You’re right,” Bai Feng nodded, acknowledging the facts he couldn’t argue with. “But… aren’t these wheat still immature? What are you planning to do?”
Tian Yan slightly frowned, a rare sign of losing her cool. “I miscalculated.”
“…So, you never considered whether the wheat was ripe?”
“It’s fine. We can store it in my ring and take our time,” she said, reaching out to dig up and transplant the wheat.
“…By the time they ripen, we’ll probably have left the Secret Realm,” Bai Feng lamented helplessly.
But Tian Yan didn’t care: “Then we can just eat it later.”
“Can’t you wait until after we leave the Secret Realm to eat cake?”
“What if I run out of cake later?”
Bai Feng fell silent at her question. He wanted to argue, but thinking it through, these little wheat sprouts weren’t really his concern—Tian Yan liked to nurture them, so let her do her thing.
Come to think of it, isn’t planting one piece of Spirit Wheat tying the Holy Maiden Tian Yan to his side? Wait, even without Spirit Wheat, this girl was already attached to him. Nope, scratch that—she’d be all over him no matter what.
After a few internal complaints, Bai Feng helped transplant the Spirit Wheat, curious about how it would taste compared to the now-matured wheat.
“Once we leave the Secret Realm, do you want to buy some more Spirit Wheat seeds?” Bai Feng asked as he worked. “Test how different your current Spirit Wheat is from the ones earlier, and see if the cake turns out even better.”
Tian Yan nodded: “Good idea. I’ll consider it.”
“Maybe, if you have time,” Bai Feng continued, “you could even hybridize the wheat.” He suddenly realized her ability might suit such experiments. Smiling, he added, “If you can breed larger-yield wheat, your cultivation might advance faster too.”
“Mmm…” Tian Yan fell into thought. “If that’s the case, just Spirit Wheat isn’t enough. I’d have to grow normal wheat too. But it’s a promising approach.”
“If successful, you might become the most renowned Tian Yan Holy Maiden of all generations,” Bai Feng teased.
“I’m not interested in that,” Tian Yan shook her head. “Mainly, I see a breakthrough opportunity here, and I want to give it a try.”
“If you hit problems, just ask me. I’ll do my best to help,” Bai Feng offered.
“Thanks,” Tian Yan replied.
After some busy work:
“All right, you can take your time in my ring. I’m heading to the central area of the Secret Realm,” Bai Feng said, stretching. Most of the well-grown Spirit Wheat had been planted in his ring, leaving the fields a bit barren now.
Tian Yan nodded and reminded him, “Make sure to find me some cows and chickens.”
“You haven’t even solved the wheat problem, and you’re already thinking about these?” Bai Feng groaned, feeling defeated. “I think you should wait until we leave the Secret Realm and buy some outside. The cows here are probably wild and difficult to domesticate now.”
“Fine,” Tian Yan agreed reluctantly.
In the end, she abandoned her plan to capture cattle and hens.
…
“Why are there more people around now? Is it because we’re getting closer to the center area?”
Bai Feng sensed spiritual power fluctuations nearby—looks like a fight was happening. Through such battles he’d encountered on the way, mostly over chances at fortune.
He had no desire to join the fight, so he quickened his pace and left.
Along the way, he explored several chance points and found a beautifully preserved Immortal finger—so he burned it. Plus, he gained 9% of his upgrade progress.
Interestingly, the system upgrade kept going even if he didn’t clear the finger; the progress bar continued to inch upward slowly. Now over 50%, but he wasn’t clearing fingers for system levels—just doing it to see how the progress might benefit him.
After burning the finger, the system pointed him toward a new one—located south—and he noticed it moving. Someone else had found and taken it.
He wasn’t in a rush, though. Suddenly, the Secret Realm’s key changed—glowing faintly white and pulling in surrounding spiritual energy. If he weren’t clutching it tightly, it might just fly into the sky toward the south.
He guessed that the gate he’d need the key for was about to appear, and the cultivator with the Immortal finger was heading there. So, he decided to stick around near the gate and set some traps.
“Huh?”
Suddenly, Bai Feng paused. He looked at a map briefly, then turned to Bai Yu Mo (Female) beside him. “There’s an opportunity nearby. Let’s check it out while we’re here.”
“Mm,” Bai Yu Mo nodded naturally, no objection.
With that, Bai Feng changed direction, avoiding the aura of the Child of Destiny on his mini-map.
‘Looks like the number of Child of Destiny types is increasing too…’
He could hide from their perception of the Child of Destiny, but avoiding detection was always better. Who knew if they’d suddenly notice something? These guys definitely shouldn’t be underestimated.
He pondered for a few seconds, then cast a side glance to Bai Yu Mo.
She tilted her head: “Big Bro, what’s the matter?”
“I want you to help me with something,” Bai Feng said, pointing at his ringed finger.
“The sect’s Divinity Monarchs still have a lot of people around,” he explained. “They didn’t get the Immortal finger before, so it’s not dangerous now. But that might change soon. So, I want you to wear this ring and be prepared—”
Before he finished, Bai Yu Mo blurted excitedly, “I’ll do it! I’m willing!”
