Chapter 391: “Didn’t you say you wanted me to be your pillow?”
“Sure enough, the closer we get to the center of the Secret Realm, the more Children of Destiny there are…”
Bai Feng looked at the system’s mini-map, and couldn’t help but click his tongue. The dense clusters of red dots were downright terrifying!
Good thing he’d hidden away in his ring ahead of time; otherwise, dodging those Children of Destiny would’ve been a full-time job.
“Brother…” At that moment, Bai Yu Mo approached, her little face flushed. She reached out and stuffed something into his embrace. “Image Retainer for you.”
“Did you delete everything?” Bai Feng took the Image Retainer and joked.
“Yeah, finished it…”
Bai Yu Mo averted her gaze slightly, her voice barely a whisper.
Seeing her like that, Bai Feng was hit with a wave of confusion and opened the Image Retainer to scroll through a few items.
To his surprise, aside from the deleted recordings, there seemed to be a few extras.
“?”
He glanced at Bai Yu Mo, then back down at the Image Retainer, utterly clueless about what she’d done.
So, deciding to cut to the chase, he clicked on one to check it out.
The next moment, a slightly mushy voice came from the device: “Brother, it’s time to get up.”
Hmm… It did sound like Bai Yu Mo, but why did it sound so odd? Is that what her voice could do?
He raised his head quietly to look at Bai Yu Mo, whose face had turned even redder. With a slight tremble in her voice, she complained, “Don’t play it in front of me like that…”
Watching her avoid eye contact, Bai Feng couldn’t resist pressing the second button:
“Brother, breakfast is ready. Let’s eat together.”
“…”
“Brother, I’m a little tired. Can you hug… (pause, deep breath)… hug me?”
“…Ugh, stop playing.” Bai Yu Mo practically whined.
Bai Feng chuckled, seeing her near the breaking point of rationality, and put the Image Retainer away. He couldn’t continue the playback.
Bai Yu Mo visibly relaxed at this, thankful since a few lines were just far too embarrassing for her to listen to again after recording.
“But Yu Mo, what made you think to record… this kind of voice?” Bai Feng asked with genuine curiosity, considering Bai Yu Mo’s personality didn’t really scream ‘flirty’.
“Didn’t you say you liked hearing it?” Bai Yu Mo whispered, “So I deleted my sleep talk and recorded a few clear lines. The sleep talk was a bit fuzzy…”
“Oh?” Bai Feng leaned in to gaze into Bai Yu Mo’s eyes, but she quickly looked away. He continued with a teasing grin, “So why not just say it to me directly?”
“…”
Bai Yu Mo hung her head, not saying a word, but the blush that still graced her cheeks spoke volumes. She probably used up all her courage recording those few lines.
Bai Feng decided not to poke the bear any further. He reached out and affectionately ruffled her hair. “Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. I see Yun Yue Yao is getting close to the center region, so we better get ready for some battle prep.”
“Yeah.”
Bai Yu Mo quickly gathered her composure, returning to her usual calm demeanor—if one could overlook that lingering blush on her cheeks.
…
“Can I sit for a bit?”
While Bai Feng was busy calibrating the scouting puppet, Tian Yan appeared next to him, standing there with a question.
“Since when did you become so polite?” Bai Feng gave her a curious glance. “Feel free to sit.”
“Thanks.”
Before he knew it, she plopped right down on his lap, her spirit energy swirling around within her.
Bai Feng: “…”
I didn’t mean ‘feel free’ to mean you should sit on my lap!
“Uh, could you sit somewhere else?” he suggested, placing a hand on Tian Yan’s head and giving it a good rub—what inspired this sudden effort in her training?
Not that it was a bad thing, but if she could refrain from making it too cozy while practicing, that would be just peachy.
“Weren’t you the one who said to sit anywhere?” Tian Yan paused her training and turned to look at him.
“I meant sitting on a chair! If you want to train, just let me know and I’ll think of a normal position for you.”
“Like?”
“How about holding my arm or shaking hands?” Bai Feng thought for a moment before saying.
“That sounds like it would lower my efficiency.” Tian Yan shook her head, even reclining slightly after her response. “I think this is fine. Just ignore me; treat me like Little Jiu or Little Snow.”
“…But I’m not looking to adopt new pets right now.” Bai Feng smirked, feeling like Tian Yan was getting bolder by the day. Maybe it was time for him to lay down some heavy-handed advice to scare her a bit, throwing on a smile, he added, “If you’re so eager to be efficient, why not become my pillow instead?”
Tian Yan fell silent, her expression contemplative.
A few seconds later, she rose from his lap, eyeing him with her golden eyes: “You’re really something else, huh?”
“Well, you’re the one who’s treating yourself like a pet, so who’s the real shameless one here?” Bai Feng couldn’t help but retort.
Tian Yan turned on her heel and took a few steps, then stopped, looking back at him. “Aren’t you coming?”
“Coming where?”
“Weren’t you the one who said I should be your pillow?” she tilted her head, looking quite serious.
Bai Feng: “…”
You’re kidding, right?
He got up and walked in front of her, then lightly flicked her forehead. “I can’t tell if you’re serious or just joking.”
“Tch, shouldn’t you be inviting me to sit on your lap and train right now?”
Tian Yan covered her forehead with both hands, clearly displeased that her plan didn’t pan out.
Bai Feng noted the numerous opportunities to poke fun at the situation, but wasn’t quite sure where to start. After staring at her for a while, he finally asked, “…What made you suddenly so dedicated?”
“Actually, I’ve always been hard at it; you just never noticed before.” Tian Yan’s expression remained flat. “Plus, I have this feeling that I’m close to breaking through to the Void Refinement stage, so I need to seize the opportunity.”
“Now I’m a little scared hearing that.”
Bai Feng poked some fun, recalling that Tian Yan’s breakthrough condition required encounters with people of special destinies—meaning something big was likely brewing in the Secret Realm.
Was there something terrifying sealed in here beyond just the finger of an Immortal?
“You should support my training even more! Once I break through to the Void Refinement stage, all problems vanish!” Tian Yan seized the moment to plead.
“…Didn’t I already make you a big bag? Just lean on my back for your training.”
“So, does that mean you agree?”
“Will you really give up if I don’t?”
“Not a chance.”
Tian Yan said that with all the calmness of a sage.
