Chapter 406: Bai Feng: Can’t I just get some Fox Food?
“It seems the task is impossible to complete.”
Black Lotus sighed softly, her mind racing through various scenarios but completely missing the fact that this little rascal, Bai Feng, had just pulled out an Immortal Sword and chopped the Heavenly Mouse to bits.
While such a powerful move shouldn’t be used twice, she wasn’t about to take that gamble; if she lost, she’d be the next one out of the picture.
“I really feel like ever since I got mixed up with this little guy, everything’s gone upside down.” She slowly got up from her chair. “It’s time to head back; there’s no point in wasting more time on this.”
When the Heavenly Mouse was still alive, the Northern Region’s Demon Path had been restless but held back by their own limitations, not daring to rebel openly. But with the Heavenly Mouse now dead, those rascals might just explode with excitement.
She could keep them in check for a while longer, but honestly, it was time to focus on other matters.
Not long after she left, a couple of Demon Cultivators who caught wind of the situation rushed in, only to find an empty room.
“She really ran away! Black Lotus is the sneakiest among them all.”
“Pfft, she just happened to be fast; otherwise…”
“Stop bragging! It’s not like you’d actually fight the Divine Monarch. Her escaping is a good thing; if she hadn’t, we wouldn’t even know how to make our move!”
“Hehehe, true! Black Lotus may have escaped, but the sects she controlled can’t get away so easily. Let those lackeys who sided with the Divine Monarch cover our losses during this time!”
“Hah, looking at it this way, the Divine Monarch has done a good deed indeed.”
……
“Little Jiu, we should head back.”
Bai Feng had not forgotten the little one still in the cave. He opened up the cave entrance, just about to grab her and leave, when he saw a girl with nine fluffy fox tails sprawled out on his bed. Most of her body was buried under a blanket, and she was clutching an Image Retainer, half her small face glued to its screen.
She was mumbling to herself: “Am I elegant? I’ve taken down the Heavenly Demon, and you dare to act against me, you little wild creature? Just wait till I slice you into dumpling filling!”
She was so engrossed in her game that she didn’t even notice Bai Feng sneak up behind her.
Until…
“Eek!!!” Little Jiu suddenly felt something grab her tail. A chill shot right to her brain. “Who? Wait, there’s only me, the fox here… is there a ghost?”
With that thought, she sprang into action, and her tail whipped around to catch the ‘thing’ that had grabbed it.
When she turned, she saw Bai Feng completely wrapped up by her tail, only his head poking out like a confused turtle.
“Eh?”
Her ferocious expression froze, followed by confusion, and finally, a look of nervousness crossed her face. “U-um, when did you get back?”
“Just now,” Bai Feng said, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
“Look at you, coming back without saying a word! What is this…?”
Little Jiu chuckled awkwardly, beads of cold sweat trickling down her face.
Had she just caught Bai Feng like this? Please, don’t let him think about cutting down on her Fox Food!
“I told you, you just didn’t hear me,” Bai Feng replied, pulling his hand from her tail and giving her cheek a pinch. “By the way, why are you in your transformed state? You look kinda cute.”
“Ah… huh?”
Little Jiu glanced down at her own body, and it was as if her brain stopped working for a moment.
Oh no, she had been so into gaming lately that she forgot she was in her transformed form!
And what did Bai Feng just say? Something about her being cute?!
This guy isn’t thinking of making a move, is he?
Thinking of this, she suddenly ‘poofed’ back into her fox form.
“Well, it’s because the game on the Image Retainer didn’t account for us monsters.” Little Jiu tried to keep calm, extending a paw to show Bai Feng. “Look, I can’t use the Image Retainer to game like this.”
“But isn’t it better this way? You should use your transformed self more often!” Bai Feng teased playfully. “Most monsters would choose to transform after reaching Yuan Ying, right?”
“No way!”
Little Jiu’s face finally couldn’t hide her panic—this guy was definitely making a move on her!
Why didn’t she stay more alert earlier?!
Bai Feng rubbed his chin: “Can’t I just give you some Fox Food?”
Little Jiu halted for a second, her face deep in thought: “Well… if I get the Fox Food…”
No, no, she couldn’t just accept some Fox Food that easily; she had her principles!
But she couldn’t resist asking, lifting her head with a hint of eagerness, “How many bags are we talking?”
“Hmm…” Bai Feng pondered for a few seconds, “How about ten bags?”
“Only ten?”
That sounded a bit stingy.
“How about twenty?”
“Let me think about it.”
“Thirty?”
“Umm…”
Little Jiu fell into a dilemma, then suddenly realized—hadn’t this conversation happened before?
And right after this chat, she had become Bai Feng’s pillow.
This guy was terrifying, inching toward her limits like a sneaky cat, and once her boundary was crossed by the allure of Fox Food, he bargained while she stupidly gave in!
Shaking her head vigorously, she resolutely declared: “No way, not even for a hundred bags!”
“Well, never mind then, I was just joking.”
Bai Feng laughed and ruffled her hair. He wouldn’t waste so many bags of Fox Food just to see Little Jiu in her transformed state; after all, he could pet her tail whether she was transformed or not.
For some reason, even though he achieved his aim, she felt a bit annoyed:
“…Maybe you should think it over.”
“But I think you’re asking for way too much Fox Food.”
“Then… um…”
Little Jiu was suddenly caught in another dilemma. If she didn’t reduce the number of bags, they couldn’t strike a deal, and she wouldn’t get any Fox Food! But if she reduced it, it felt like way too much of a loss—she was taking quite a risk here!
“Alright, let’s stop the nonsense.” Bai Feng withdrew his hand from her head. “We have to head back. You should tidy up and come along.”
“Okay…” Little Jiu nodded, shaking off her dilemma, but moments later she looked up at Bai Feng again. “Are you really not considering it?”
Bai Feng looked down at Little Jiu, unable to grasp her mindset. Was Fox Food really that enticing for her?
“…If you really want Fox Food, just wrap me up in your tail like just now. Just don’t squeeze too hard.”
“Um… that works too.”
Little Jiu looked down, thinking for a few seconds. She had already secured the Fox Food, but why was she still feeling a little off?
“Alright, if you want Fox Food, hurry and clean up so we can head back, and I’ll get you your Fox Food.” Bai Feng ruffled her head again.
“Okay, got it.”
Little Jiu shook her head, deciding not to think too much about it, and quickly tidied up to get back to her gaming.
