Chapter 412: Tian Yan: Let Me Out!
After finishing class, Bai Feng called Luo Qianqian out.
“Your talent is way better than I imagined. It would be a shame to keep you stuck with those others during training.” He looked at Luo Qianqian, who seemed a bit stiff, and said straightforwardly, “So I’m planning to open a special study class for you. From now on, you won’t need to attend classes with them.”
Luo Qianqian tilted her head slightly, eyes full of hope, and asked, “Will you accept me as your disciple, teacher?”
“Not quite. Becoming my disciple requires a high standard,” Bai Feng responded, giving her a little motivational speech with a shiny promise first, then explained, “This new class isn’t just me teaching you. The others in the research studio will also be responsible for teaching you Array magic, especially some simpler formations.”
“Yes, I’ll work hard!” Luo Qianqian clenched her tiny fist.
“Here, take these.” Bai Feng handed her a small gift he had prepared in advance. “This communicator contains a lot of Array knowledge. You can practice with the Array disk when you have time. It also shows the class schedule—remember to come on time. If I’m late or not around, just come find me in the research studio.”
“Oh, okay.”
Luo Qianqian nodded quickly, clutching the communicator and Array disk with both arms like a treasure.
“Go back and rest now. If you encounter any problems, you can contact me through the communicator. I’ll reply when I have time.”
“Thank you, teacher.”
With Bai Feng slowly leaving, Luo Qianqian looked at the communicator and Array disk in her hands, a smug smile creeping up her face.
“Hehe, I did it.”
All her late-night studying finally paid off—she caught Bai Feng’s attention. For today, she decided to indulge in a little celebration.
But she knew better than to slack off completely—just today, anyway. Tomorrow, she’d keep chasing that atemporal dragon and continue to level up.
She carefully packed the communicator and Array disk into her storage bag and strode back home.
…
Ding ding ding.
Hearing the noise, Bai Feng put down his work, picked up the communicator, and glanced at it.
Tian Yan: Let me out.
Bai Feng: …Don’t say things that could be misunderstood.
He rubbed his forehead helplessly. Tian Yan wasn’t imprisoned—she was just entering his ring daily to take care of her wheat, spirit beasts, and other little critters. Now that she’d sent that message, it probably meant she was done tending to her charges and wanted to come out for some cultivation.
He raised his hand to “release” Tian Yan from the ring.
“Let me open a backdoor for you. From now on, you can come and go from the ring freely—no need to call me every time,” Bai Feng said resignedly. His celestial ring could be set with multiple users, after all. It probably used to belong to the sect’s communal property, considering its space and herb-planting features, and one person alone couldn’t really handle all that. Of course, those users’ permissions all ranked below his.
Why not keep wheat and spirit beasts outside to raise? Well, Tian Yan wasn’t too keen on that, and Bai Feng also wanted to take advantage of her labor—let her help tend his transplanted herbs. Now he was even thinking about hiring some servants to handle the herbal care inside the ring—they’d have to work in there daily, after all. But rings like this weren’t supposed to be exposed openly, so for now, he’d let Tian Yan come and go as she pleased.
“Okay,” Tian Yan nodded. “I also think it’s pretty annoying to have to send messages every single time I come out.”
“Good. I’ll give you access for coming and going.”
As Bai Feng adjusted the ring, Tian Yan leaned in familiarly, pressed against him, and even wrapped her arms around him.
“Don’t you think that move is a bit too intimate?” Bai Feng muttered while fiddling with the ring.
Tian Yan almost buried her head into his embrace and replied, “Then I’ll sit on your lap?”
“Couldn’t you pick a more normal posture?”
“But if I lean on your back, I’ll just feel like a cushion. I don’t like that.”
Tian Yan nearly pressed her face into his chest; while her expression was still blank, her gentle rubbing suggested she was in a good mood.
He thought for a bit—maybe, for Tian Yan the Holy Maiden, she was like catnip for cats?
“…Fine, if you think it’s okay, then whatever.” Bai Feng shook his head, then slightly raised his hand with the ring on it. “Alright, now you just need to touch me to enter the ring yourself.”
No sooner had he spoken, Tian Yan disappeared from his side.
Less than a minute later, she reappeared beside him.
“So?”
“Very convenient,” Tian Yan nodded. “From now on, I can live inside your ring forever.”
“…I suddenly regret giving you access,” Bai Feng grinned. “What about the house you built earlier?”
Tian Yan waved her hand decisively. “Forget it. I built that house just to stay closer for cultivation, but now that I can be closer to you, I don’t need it anymore.”
…
He paused for a few seconds, then suddenly remembered something and asked cautiously, “Let me ask—you’re not planning to sneak out of the ring in the middle of the night, right?”
Tian Yan didn’t answer immediately. She lowered her head in thought for a few seconds, then, noticing Bai Feng’s gaze, she lifted her head and shook it.
“No, I wouldn’t do something like that,” she said. “That’s not my style.”
“One time only, I’ll trust you on that. But I should tell you—I’m already at the Transformation God Stage. I don’t need sleep anymore. Sleep is just a relaxation for me. If anything happens, I’ll wake up immediately.”
Tian Yan frowned slightly. “I already said I wouldn’t do that kind of thing. I am the Holy Maiden of Tian Yan.”
“You actually remember you’re the Holy Maiden?”
Has she been doing anything remotely related to that title lately?
“I do all this for my cultivation. Many previous Holy Maidens even risked their lives to breakthrough, or ended up dying inside, just to level up. I’m just closer to you, that’s all. What’s wrong with that?” Tian Yan retorted.
“And the cake too?”
This time, Tian Yan fell silent, lowering her head. “…That, that’s just my personal preference. How can cake relate to the Holy Maiden’s image?”
Then came some confusing stuff—like “blaming how delicious cake is,” or “even Holy Maidens have a right to pursue good food”—which made Bai Feng burst into chuckles, filling the room with a lively, joyous atmosphere.
