Chapter 443: “Is this Pigeon Really Ling Lan?”
“There’s no such thing as genuine stuff. I’ve taught you everything I can,” Bai Feng said, shaking his head.
“But… I feel that my drawing isn’t as good as Senior Brother Bai’s… Hmm, kinda… sour,” Shui Miao Miao quietly averted her gaze and muttered softly.
“……”
Definitely, Shui Miao Miao’s attitude toward him had shifted somehow—at least, she wouldn’t ask so straightforwardly before.
“This thing? No skill involved. Never mind, I guess I don’t need to tell you; I’ll explain it to you when we’re back in the sect.”
Bai Feng waved his hand dismissively, casually finding an excuse to bluff his way through.
“Thanks, Senior Brother Bai!”
Shui Miao Miao nodded hurriedly, then suddenly realized—couldn’t this mean she could draw… *sour pictures* with Senior Brother Bai?
If they drew… pictures while Senior Brother Bai was like this or that…
Hehehehe, what should I do now?
Bai Feng watched Shui Miao Miao’s goofy grin and felt that her idle chatter was increasing—perhaps she’d caught some sort of illness?
Should I flip through some medical texts and check Shui Miao Miao?
……
“Time to eat.”
Bai Feng stood in the courtyard, flicked some grains with his hand, and a flock of birds swooped down, pecking at the grains on the ground.
Since he occasionally used these little birds for reconnaissance, he’d scatter some grains beforehand as a tip for them—plus, it’s a good way to relax and pass the time.
“The city’s pigeons sure are multiplying.”
Ever since Ling Lan said she’d bring the Silver-Winged Dove to submit to him, pigeons have been steadily heading toward Blue Rainbow City.
He sat on a stone bench, slowly scattering grains, when suddenly he saw a pigeon that refused to eat the grains.
It stood beside his foot, its little head held high, staring at him intently.
‘What’s this pigeon doing?’
Bai Feng looked at it with suspicion. He grabbed a handful of grains, bent down, and placed them before the pigeon. But the pigeon turned its head away, seemingly showing no interest in the grains.
He was reminded of the scene where Ling Lan fought a plain old bird that was also in the Qi Condensation stage for popcorn, and when he looked at this grain-ignoring pigeon, a faint suspicion arose in his mind: ‘Could this pigeon also be Ling Lan in disguise?’
He then took out some popcorn and placed it in front of the pigeon. This time, the pigeon didn’t ignore the food but quickly lowered its head and started munching.
Almost confirmed now—the pigeon was probably Ling Lan’s fake.
What’s wrong with this little thing? And popcorn isn’t expensive—why not just buy some in Yu Ling Long? Why go through all this trouble to pretend to be a regular pigeon begging for popcorn?
He stared at the popcorn-eating pigeon for a few seconds. After it finished the popcorn in his palm, he didn’t pull back his hand but instead reached out toward the pigeon.
The pigeon didn’t dodge but let Bai Feng hand it over.
“Pretty well-behaved,” Bai Feng said, observing the obedient pigeon in his hand. Suddenly, he had an idea: let’s see how long Ling Lan can keep up the disguise.
He placed the pigeon on the table and dumped a handful of popcorn near it. When the pigeon started eating, he gently stroked its head with his finger.
Seeing that the pigeon kept eating without reaction, Bai Feng slightly infused his spiritual power into his finger and lightly touched the pigeon’s body.
As he did, the pigeon suddenly froze, trembling visibly.
But it didn’t fly away. Instead, it lowered its head and kept munching on the remaining popcorn.
White Feng didn’t hold back and used the same trick he used on Little Jiu on Ling Lan.
The pigeon was initially burrowing into the popcorn, but after a moment, it seemed something was off, and it accelerated its eating. After about ten more seconds, the speed slowed again.
At this point, it seemed like the pigeon wanted to leave. But clearly, it was too late. It tried to spread its wings, and Bai Feng flicked his finger across its wing.
In an instant, the pigeon collapsed onto the table as if exhausted.
“Gugu… Gugu…” it made a muffled cry, unclear whether it was regret for not leaving sooner or cursing Bai Feng as ‘despicable.’
Even though it was now lying on the table, Bai Feng didn’t seem intent on letting it go.
He simply lifted the feeble pigeon and gently stroked it again.
Until the pigeon stopped making a sound, Bai Feng placed it back on the table.
Looking at the pigeon lying there with its eyes half-closed, totally immobile, he couldn’t help but wonder: ‘Is this pigeon really Ling Lan?’
No, it must be her. Although this pigeon’s cultivation was concealed well, his powerful divine consciousness could detect her Transformation God Stage aura.
He had expected Ling Lan to start begging for mercy midway through the massage, but this pigeon… didn’t say a word, not even a plea.
Her personality really is resolute. Though, perhaps, her resoluteness is misplaced.
Bai Feng shook his head, stopping his thoughts. Since she refused to reveal her identity, he didn’t plan to push her further.
“Forget it, I should go continue repairing Yu Ling Long’s array,” he muttered, picking up the unmoving pigeon and placing it inside to rest. Then he left his small hut and strolled toward Yu Ling Long.
Not long after he left, the pigeon lying on the table finally twitched and kicked its legs, waking up.
It looked around in confusion, then stumbled off the table onto the sofa. The next moment, the pigeon transformed back into Ling Lan.
“Ah… so good…”
Ling Lan sank onto the sofa, still feeling a bit numb all over.
Initially, she was somewhat resistant, even wanting Bai Feng to stop. But everything happened so suddenly she forgot how to speak human language. As the massage continued, she found she no longer had the strength to speak. And at this point, she no longer resisted.
She reached out, trying to sit up, but her body was still weak. She tried twice and failed each time.
Forget it, she’d rest for a bit and then head back—besides, Bai Gongzi was not home.
So Ling Lan laid down again.
‘Maybe I should just wait for Bai Gongzi to return. I could ask what I should do if I want another massage next time… No, if I keep pretending to be a normal pigeon, I can enjoy Bai Feng’s massage for free?’
Ling Lan thought she was a genius—only, she completely didn’t realize that the massage impacting her body at the Transformation God Stage was obviously not simple.
