Chapter 467: Young Master Bai, Does My Fur Feel Nice?
“Sorry for making you wait so long.”
Bai Feng cradled Little Jiu and pushed open the door again. The moment he did, both Su Rong Rong and Qiao Qiao immediately turned their eyes toward him — or more precisely, toward the adorable girl in his arms.
After all, their original mission was to find Little Jiu. Even though they had already left the Southern Region, choosing to head to the Northern Region and pledge loyalty to Bai Feng was mainly because Little Jiu was there, and she had a pretty good relationship with Bai Feng.
And now… it seemed like Little Jiu and Bai Feng’s relationship was not just good — it was borderline over-the-top.
Su Rong Rong gazed at Little Jiu, clutching Bai Feng, not only did she not resist but actually looked pretty happy being petted — and that made her mood a little complicated.
She had envisioned many pictures of Little Jiu, the pure-bl**d Nine-Tailed Fox, like in fairy tales — graceful and powerful, noble like an empress.
She’d only met Little Jiu once before, when Little Jiu was wearing some special armor, adding a mysterious touch. Their encounter had been brief, so she hadn’t noticed anything strange.
But now…
Seeing Little Jiu, just an ordinary spirit fox acting as a pet, her heart felt like something was breaking inside.
Bai Feng sat back down in his chair, and Little Jiu didn’t leave his lap. Instead, she glanced at Su Rong Rong and the others:
“You’re probably part of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan that surrendered to Bai Feng, right? Bai Feng told me that if you have talented juniors, you can let them join the Heavenly Sword Sect. I’ll help guide them if I have the time.”
Bai Feng glanced slightly downward at the serious Little Jiu, surprised — Little Jiu could say such things? Looks like her silly exterior was just her not wanting to think too much.
“Then thank you, Senior Little Jiu,” Su Rong Rong nodded quickly. Inside, her heart felt like it was healing a bit.
Seems like Little Jiu is still quite reliable after all. As for the private conversations between Little Jiu and Young Master Bai — maybe because their relationship is pretty close? Most people don’t stay serious and tense when they’re with close friends. Even she would act a little more relaxed and lazy in private — like relaxing on a thick, soft pillow that could swallow half her body while she rested.
“Hm…”
Little Jiu tilted her head, then looked up at Bai Feng.
He noticed her gaze and held back the urge to rub her head. “What’s up?”
“I’m thinking about changing my name. I didn’t feel it before, but now I realize my grandma’s chosen name is a bit too casual.”
“Just remove the ‘little’ part,” Bai Feng said, showing a mischievous smile. Since he couldn’t quite go around petting Little Jiu’s ears in front of others, he reached for her tail with his wicked hand. “Jiu Senior — that’s way more normal.”
“Mm, kinda sounds like being the ninth,” Little Jiu wasn’t too happy with that.
“Then pick a homophone,” Bai Feng suggested. “Otherwise, if you change your name, we’ll all have to get used to calling you something else.”
“Sigh, why couldn’t my grandma think a little more carefully and give me a good name?” Little Jiu muttered softly, flicking her tail in an attempt to pry it out of Bai Feng’s grasp. But with Bai Feng’s higher cultivation level and strength, her resistance was just adorable but futile.
“Alright, enough about that,” Bai Feng waved off her little protest with a smile, then looked at Su Rong Rong. “Let’s head to the warehouse, and you can also prepare a list of what’s needed — ask the Southern Region if they want any of these.”
“Okay.”
Su Rong Rong nodded, and Qiao Qiao, standing to the side, was staring at Little Jiu with a subtle expression — as if she’d cracked Bai Feng’s preferences.
*Huh…*
“What is this thing?”
Su Rong Rong looked at the strange metal box that resembled a fortress. Her face was full of confusion.
“You can think of it as a movable array,” Bai Feng explained, opening the ‘box’ door. “Don’t be deceived by the size — it’s much cheaper than portable arrays, and it’s not for defense. It’s mainly for setting up camp.”
Su Rong Rong nodded instinctively. “As expected of Young Master Bai…”
“We’re also researching how to place city defenses on this. But it won’t be so small then.” Bai Feng casually painted a picture. “It could even be bigger, letting people live on top of it. If we can crack the hovering tech, we could build an airborne city that’s both offensive and defensive.”
“Ah…”
Su Rong Rong tried to imagine — if their ancestral land was like a floating city in Bai Feng’s words, then wouldn’t they no longer be forced to abandon their ancestral land after all these years? Instead, they could bring their homeland along and run away together?
“Getting sidetracked,” Bai Feng brought the focus back, “Just ask the Southern Region if they want these. The price is negotiable.”
As for whether selling these would be inappropriate — no worries. These fortress arrays were already outdated. Keeping them in storage was just taking up space. Might as well sell them for some cash. R&D was expensive, after all. If Bai Feng wasn’t rich, the Array Peak would have already gone bankrupt.
“Good, I think they’ll like this stuff.”
Su Rong Rong nodded. The Southern and other regions weren’t quite the same as the Northern Region — with more forests, and less cooperation among monster tribes, big cities were rare except for large groups like their Nine-Tailed Fox Clan. Most smaller tribes lived scattered across villages. They’d probably need Bai Feng’s array fortresses pretty badly.
“Alright, I’ll give you access to the warehouse. In the future, you’ll need to make a few trips.”
Su Rong Rong was a bit surprised but quickly nodded. “Got it, I’ll do a good job!”
She even instinctively looked at the large variety of arrays inside the warehouse — so valuable, and now she was responsible for handling them? She had to earn Bai Feng’s trust!
“Take your time with it. I’ll be heading back now. If you need anything, come find me.”
“Yes!”
After leaving the warehouse, Bai Feng returned to his workroom. And what did he see? A strange white fox napping on his desk.
He walked over, gently rubbing this fluffy fox — its fur was not as soft and fluffy as Little Jiu’s, and its body was a bit more slender, missing the cuteness factor.
The fox, lying on the table, opened its slightly elongated eyes. It seemed to smile and say, “Young Master Bai, does my fur feel comfortable?”
“Not bad. Among the foxes I’ve touched, you’re number two,” Bai Feng replied.
Well, in total, he had only touched two foxes.
