Chapter 469: Little Jiu: I Must Uphold My Promise and Not Smear the Reputation of the Nine-Tailed Fox!
Little Jiu blinked open her eyes, then quietly shifted her gaze and whispered, “Wasn’t it agreed that you’d entertain me with games and I’d warm your bed?”
“That’s just a joke,” Bai Feng said, reaching out to gently rub her small face. “Alright, go back and rest. I don’t need you to warm my bed.”
“I am a noble Nine-Tailed Fox! Promises made are promises kept,” Little Jiu insisted, head lowered, voice soft but crystal clear.
“See, I told you that was just a joke. If you’re not willing, don’t push yourself,” Bai Feng replied patiently.
“But I must keep my promise! I can’t let the reputation of the Nine-Tailed Fox be sullied!” Little Jiu’s voice grew louder, as if she hadn’t heard Bai Feng’s words and was still defending her position.
Bai Feng looked at the determined Little Jiu, stroking his chin thoughtfully before asking, “But now you’re already warmed up. Isn’t it time to go back?”
Little Jiu suddenly paused, then gently turned her head and whispered, “W-when…Pillow-chan is part of the promise too! I absolutely cannot let the Nine-Tailed Fox’s reputation go to ruin.”
…
Bai Feng watched the serious expression on Little Jiu and felt she was just making excuses for her behavior. In his impressions, Little Jiu wasn’t exactly a fox that strictly followed promises.
It seemed today Little Jiu had taken quite a hit. Previously, whenever he ‘threatened’ her to warm his bed, she’d glare at him alertly. Now, she climbed in herself to warm the bed. The one refusing was him, not her.
Seeing the slight look of grievance in her eyes, he restrained his urge to tease her further.
“Well, since you’re so insistent, then…” Bai Feng slid into the bedsheets and said to Little Jiu, who was acting as a pillow, “Come on, poke your tail over here. Being a pillow means having the resolve to be a good pillow.”
“You with…,” Little Jiu almost snapped at him, but then she stopped midway and obediently stretched out her tail.
“Not bad, not bad. I admit you’re a qualified pillow,” Bai Feng chuckled, patting her furry big tail. Honestly, he’d wanted to do this for quite a while but Little Jiu kept refusing. Today, finally, his long-standing wish came true.
…
Little Jiu buried her face in the quilt, looking very reluctant, like she was just obeying a promise. But if you lifted the blanket and looked closer, her slightly squinting eyes seemed to show she wasn’t really unwilling—she looked rather happy.
…
South Region.
“Grand Elder, what’s the matter? It’s rare to see you not wearing that serious face,” a somewhat young-looking woman asked, smiling at the old man.
“It’s a letter from Rong Rong,” the old man said, smiling as he stroked his beard. He placed the letter on the table for the woman to see. “The youngest Master Bai Feng of Heavenly Sword Sect plans to sell us some weapons. It was a good call to send Rong Rong and the others to Northern Region to seek him out.”
“But wouldn’t that affect Rong Rong and the others?”
The woman was a bit worried. Rong Rong and her crew hadn’t been in the Northern Region for long. If asking for aid angers Master Bai Feng, that would be trouble.
“No need to worry, it was Bai Feng who proposed this,” the old man said with a shake of his head, smiling. “It looks like Rong Rong and Qiao Qiao are doing pretty well under him.”
She nodded, then lowered her gaze to read the content of the letter: “Weapons untested in actual combat? Could that…”
“I understand what you’re about to say,” the old man cut her off. “Don’t forget our current situation. We’re no longer the great clan we once were. But I think it’s a good thing. It shows we still have value. I even hope for more of these weapons.”
“But…”
The woman wanted to say more, but the Grand Elder seemed to have made his decision.
“Stop worrying. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t agree. But these aren’t ordinary weapons. They’re new creations from Bai Feng—Genius of Array—and his Array Peak. They’re not just outdated array disks on the market. And these weapons haven’t even been tested in real combat—only lacking actual battlefield testing. Plus, they’re priced so low. If Bai Feng just wanted to squeeze us for every last Spirit Stone, he wouldn’t tell us about this, and he’d jack up the prices.”
…
The old man saw her still had objections and sighed: “Tell me, how many Spirit Stones do we have left?”
“Not too few, but we’ve lost a lot of territory. Without new ways to make money, these stones won’t last long,” she replied.
“Exactly. So we can only buy untested weapons like these. Even if Bai Feng is willing to sell us array disks, can we afford them?” he countered.
After a few seconds of silence, she nodded, accepting the Grand Elder’s plan.
“Moreover, Bai Feng has sold us good stuff before,” he said, glancing at the letter. “Array Fortress is perfect for us now. Go, withdraw some funds, then head to Northern Region. Buy… about ten, maybe.”
“Yes.”
“Oh, and this was sent by Rong Rong and the others—something like ‘Weapon Trial Equipment.’ Find a few young ones to distribute, and let them test the effects during their missions.”
He thought for a moment, then tossed a storage pouch onto the table. Inside was the specially selected weapon Bai Feng wanted them to try for free.
“Understood.”
…
“Looks like the monsters of the South Region quite like these cheap weapons,” Bai Feng calmly set down the report from You Su Rong Rong and looked up at her. “From what I see, the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan left in the South has purchased a lot of weapons and ten Array Fortresses. Even though they took heavy hits, a burnt-out camel is still bigger than a horse. They still have money!”
“And with the help of these remaining Nine-Tailed Foxes, selling weapons gets even easier,” he added.
He lowered his gaze at the report and said, “Proceed as you suggested. If these new weapons have flaws, be sure to report back. Let the research institute see if they can improve them.”
“Yes,” You Su Rong Rong nodded. After wrapping up the official business, she let out a breath: “By the way, Young Master Bai, have you seen Qiao Qiao?”
Bai Feng instinctively looked down, then chuckled: “You know her temper. She’ll probably come out on her own soon. Plus, this is Array Peak—nothing dangerous.”
“I just worry she might cause trouble for you,” she said softly.
“Relax. Qiao Qiao’s got a good head on her shoulders. She knows what to do and what not to do,” Bai Feng assured.
“Hope so…” You Su Rong Rong nodded. “I won’t disturb you any longer.”
She left, and Bai Feng lowered his head to look at Qiao Qiao in her fox form. She was prostrate on his leg, low and silent, barely daring to breathe—no louder than a whisper.
“Don’t you need to be so scared, huh?”
