Chapter 472: This Thing Is Way Better Than Cultivation Techniques or Spirit Devices
“Little Jiu, your game is finally ready—come give it a whirl and see if it’s fun.”
Bai Feng handed over a Photo Retainer, cursing silently: ever since Little Jiu glued herself to him almost all day—practically working out side by side—he had to speed up game development to keep her busy.
“Okay! I’m coming!” Little Jiu leapt onto his lap with a bouncing jump, snatched the Photo Retainer, and started fiddling with it. “How do you play this thing?”
“Just press these buttons to move it. The characters in the game won’t stop attacking themselves.”
“This seems a bit too easy, doesn’t it?”
Little Jiu muttered under her breath before controlling her little avatar to move around.
Originally, the survivor character of the Ghost ○ Hunger was wielding a whip, but here Bai Feng replaced it with a more mainstream longsword, changing the attack style to swinging. Other weapons were tweaked too—for example, the Cross Scriptures turned into flying swords, and rings that released lightning were swapped out for palm-thunder. This way, players in this world could better understand what each weapon actually does and would find it easier to pick up.
Gameplay-wise, it was super simple: monsters kept spawning from all directions; the player controls the little character to chop them down, then upgrades or evolves their weapons as they level up. Little Jiu quickly mastered the mechanics and happily dove into her monster-slaying journey.
“This game is like cultivating for an hour per round—don’t forget that!”
Little Jiu silently glanced up at Bai Feng. “Got it, got it. You’re just trying to make me cultivate.”
“As long as you put in a bit of effort yourself, I wouldn’t have to force you,” Bai Feng gently ruffled her head with a bit more force. “Alright, go ahead and play. I’ve got other things to do.”
“Oh.”
With her game finished, Little Jiu obediently jumped down from his lap and plopped onto a nearby cushion, beginning her gaming adventure.
About ten minutes later…
“Old Bai, you rotten scoundrel!!!” Little Jiu suddenly pounced onto Bai Feng, practically throwing herself on him. “I knew you had bad intentions! Why’s this game so hard about halfway through? I only played for a little while, and now I’ve gotta cultivate for a whole hour. You’re so mean!”
“That’s because you haven’t unlocked the later weapons,” Bai Feng said leisurely, lifting her claws-pretending-to-be-clawing little hands. “Just look at the achievement page on the main menu, then unlock more gear. There are even evolutions in store! Plus, earning money lets you increase your attributes—this is a game where your outside growth matters.”
Little Jiu’s eyes narrowed suspiciously at him.
“Trust me, and besides, do you think I’d bother cheating just to trick you?” Bai Feng put Little Jiu down, smiling as he playfully rubbed her chin.
“Fine, I’ll believe you this once.”
Little Jiu put away her doubts; she trusted Bai Feng in this regard. Given his gaming skills, if he really wanted to cheat, it wouldn’t be this simple.
“Alright, keep playing! If anything isn’t clear, just ask me.”
“Humph, I’d rather figure it out myself—makes it more fun.”
Little Jiu huffed and turned back to her cushion, diving into the game.
Though she’d only played for a brief moment, she immediately sensed the game’s high entertainment value. Whether it was swiftly killing waves of monsters at the start or the random weapons gained after leveling up, she couldn’t help but want to keep playing. If only she hadn’t thought about how a single round meant a whole hour of cultivation—she’d start a second game right now.
“This time, I’ve got to last longer… No rush to get new weapons. I’ll upgrade what I’ve got first.”
As Little Jiu whispered her plans, Bai Feng shot her a glance and then satisfiedly withdrew his gaze. From his perspective, Little Jiu probably wouldn’t bother him for a little while.
But he underestimated her possessiveness—her strong territorial instincts.
At night, Bai Feng lifted the blanket and found Little Jiu still glued to her game.
“Turn it off. I’m going to sleep, or go play in your own room!”
“Okay…”
Little Jiu silently closed the game and obediently laid down on the bed.
Bai Feng looked at her, a bit perplexed—could it be that this little game wasn’t fun? Why was she so obediently putting down her game to sleep?
During the day, as Bai Feng prepared to leave for work, Little Jiu quickly ran over, her tail swishing around him as she hugged his waist, holding high the still-active Photo Retainer, revealing her gaming screen.
Bai Feng: …
Apparently, it wasn’t that the game wasn’t fun; it was just that her territory was more important than any game.
Usually, when women like Bai Yu Mo, Yun Yue Yao, Su Lan Qian, or even Little Qi came looking for him, Little Jiu would obediently leave. Otherwise…
Bai Feng sighed, reached out, and scooped up Little Jiu, still tangled with her tail, and headed toward the research institute with her.
Recently, the Nine-Tailed Fox of the Southern Region had sent over logs and feedback about weapon usage. Bai Feng planned to find someone to improve on these underwhelming weapons.

“Have our clanspeople been getting too obsessed with external things lately?”
A middle-aged man with a goat beard mumbled as he looked down at the noisy youngsters.
“That’s definitely true,” another nodded, then suddenly shifted tone, “But hey, with these external items, our losses have been cut down a lot. Now, the bl**d Snake Clan doesn’t dare rush in recklessly when they see us.”
“Yeah, these are way more practical than cultivation techniques or spirit devices—no wonder Grand Elder Bai personally modified these weapons.”
A relatively young man beside him took out a hollow round stick and chuckled.
“But without this stick, what skills do you have? You’re just like those wasteful rich kids wielding powerful spirit devices but lacking cultivation—what’s the difference?”
The older man glared sharply.
“Well, this spiritual g*n is pretty cheap. Even ordinary Yuan Ying cultivators can buy one. With such a price, a wealthy scion’s spirit device could fully outfit a squad of dozens. And with that squad, even without Transformation God Stage cultivators, seasoned Transforming Gods wouldn’t be their match.”
Seeing the others ready to argue again, another quickly interjected, “Alright, enough. These weapons are definitely helpful, but true strength comes from within. Combining both is what makes the strongest.”
He then turned to the young man: “But I remember your spiritual g*n is quite fast. Do you think a Transformation God Stage cultivator can still react in time?”
“Exactly.” The young man nodded confidently. “Either we attack by surprise or combine it with other weapons… like this!”
He pulled out a circular orb inscribed with array runes. “This formation can trap a Transformation God for a few seconds—that’s enough for me to hit him multiple times. Plus, my spiritual g*n here is only mid-tier—top-tier ones can sh**t enemies down from the sky. Too bad they’re so expensive; Grand Elder Bai only bought three sets as trump cards.”
“Ah, this world has gone mad!” The goat-bearded man couldn’t help but complain.
“Alright, alright. Even the strongest of these weapons can only serve against Refinement Stage experts. They’re practically useless against Merging Stage. You’ve still got to be strong yourself.”
“But how many can actually cultivate to Merging Stage? I’ll probably only make it to Refinement in this lifetime,” someone else sighed.
“…Stop talking already!”
