Chapter 475: Your Potting Skills Are Truly Impressive
“White Feng…”
Little Jiu leapt onto Bai Feng’s lap, tilting her head up with what looked like a bit of a pout on her face.
“What’s up?” Bai Feng casually tousled her hair twice. “Getting bored of the game?”
“I feel like you’re scamming me,” Little Jiu said, flicking his hand away with a slight frown. “This game doesn’t even last half an hour per round. If I speed it up, it’s even shorter! Why do I have to cultivate for an entire hour just for a single short round? There should be at least a one-to-one ratio between playtime and cultivation time!”
Bai Feng continued reaching out to try and pet her head and ears, still throwing a rebuttal: “But isn’t there an endless mode later on?”
“But once your weapon’s formed, it’s just afk grinding—no need to operate at all!”
Little Jiu once again swatted his hand away, but Bai Feng didn’t seem discouraged. She transformed into human form and grabbed the hand that was trying to stroke her head.
Seeing her bellyful of fury, it was pretty obvious she was genuinely mad—so mad she even materialized into her human form.
“How about I make you a few new maps and characters?”
Little Jiu shook her head without hesitation. “No! No modifications to the cultivation time—no dice!”
“Then, I’ll make a new game for you,” Bai Feng said casually. He saw her hesitation soften just a bit and seized the moment, placing his hand on her head, gently rubbing her soft ears.
“Don’t, don’t touch my ears!” Little Jiu tried to block him with her hands.
“Then just retract your ears,” Bai Feng said, extending his other hand to hold her close in his arms, still nonchalantly massaging her ears. “After all, once you take form, you can choose to expose or hide your monster traits, right?”
“…Ugh, I told you—stop rubbing my ears!”
But Little Jiu seemed oblivious, still struggling in his embrace, her words a bit muffled.
A faint smile crept onto Bai Feng’s lips. He loosened his grip, rubbing her head again: “Alright, alright, I won’t rub anymore. So, do you want to try this new game?”
“…Yes!”
After hesitating for a few seconds, Little Jiu nodded—if it meant Bai Feng would keep working on the game, then playing for an hour of cultivation wasn’t such a big deal.
“Good. Give me your Image Retainer.”
“You want to use my Image Retainer for this new game?” Little Jiu looked a little puzzled but handed it over anyway.
“Alright, this is a new game called Potato Brothers.” Bai Feng operated it briefly before handing it back. “It’s similar to the Immortal Cultivators Survivor game—automatic attack, monster fighting, but the gameplay has several differences.”
Little Jiu instinctively took the Retainer, glancing down at the new game interface, then at Bai Feng’s smiling face. She suddenly felt like she’d been set up.
“You, you already guessed I’d do this, huh?” She instantly spun around and pounced.
Bai Feng reached out, grabbing her ‘fangs-bared’ arms, then gently massaged her ears with his free hand. “Nope, this was just a burst of inspiration during my Immortal Cultivators Survivor gameplay, so I naturally made a new game.”
“Seriously, I told you—stop rubbing my ears!” Little Jiu swung her head, but her actions were gentle, almost as if she didn’t really want to shake him off.
“Alright, alright, no more ears. Hurry up and play the game—remember, one round equals one hour of cultivation.”
“Yep.”
Little Jiu nodded with a bit of annoyance but didn’t leave, nor did she transform back into her fox form. Instead, she kept in human shape, leaning against Bai Feng while launching into the new game.
Bai Feng watched her, sitting on his lap in a bit of a daze. It was a good chance—he wasn’t busy with complicated work, and her sitting still to play didn’t disturb him at all. In fact, he even started to suspect Little Jiu had been observing him all this time, knowing exactly what he was up to.
Ah well, let her sit if she wants—he could always have fun with that fuzzy big tail later.
Meanwhile, Little Jiu stared thoughtfully at the new game’s interface. She thought she’d be pretty proficient at similar games after the ordeal of the Immortal Cultivators Survivor, or at least have a good grasp of it. But this game was a little different.
In Immortal Cultivators Survivor, after defeating monsters, you’d drop Spirit Stones, which could be used to level up. Each level-up offered a new Spirit Tool or improved existing ones. When Spirit Tools maxed out, and if you had the right accessories, they could be upgraded into Immortality Artifacts.
But this game doesn’t promote immediate leveling—it’s split into multiple small rounds. After each round, you get an upgrade reward—choosing which attribute to boost. The game also features a random shop: weapons are not upgraded but bought, and the weapons no longer break through into celestial artifacts. Instead, you acquire accessories without limit to boost your character’s stats.
“Ugh, so hard to choose!”
Frowning, Little Jiu’s eyes flicked crazily between two items. Many of these items boosts certain stats but also weakens others—making the gameplay more strategic and unpredictable.
“This game doesn’t have the outside world to grow in—you can clear the first round with any character, but if you lose, don’t come crying to me!”
“Got it!”
After staring at the shop for a full minute, she finally decided to gamble. She would abandon defense and go all-in as a high-damage assassin.
But then, due to her low defense, she was careless and got wrecked by a big monster, then finished off by the bullets shot from smaller monsters behind her.
“…”
She looked up at Bai Feng.
“Don’t forget what you just said.”
“I… I!” Little Jiu hesitated for a few seconds, but the moment she realized she’d only played for a few minutes before needing a full hour of cultivation, she just couldn’t hold it in. She started crying and fussing right in his arms: “Can I sleep with my transformed appearance? I don’t want to cultivate for an hour just after a few minutes of gameplay!”
“Nope, how am I supposed to use you as a pillow if you’re like that?”
Little Jiu instantly protested, “But you often hug Yun Yue Yao when we’re together!”
Bai Feng silently looked down at her.
“That’s just in normal times!” Little Jiu, feeling a bit nervous under his gaze, hurriedly defended herself, even biting back: “But based on your reaction, you probably use Yun Yue Yao as a pillow when you sleep too, huh?”
“When did your standards get so low?”
Bai Feng sighed. He remembered that earlier, Little Jiu was quite resistant to his touch—now she not only accepted being a pillow but even wanted to be a human-shaped one.
“That’s all on you,” Little Jiu mumbled, averting her gaze. “If you didn’t push me to cultivate, and didn’t go after other foxes, I wouldn’t be like this…”
…
Wow, your potting skills are really top-notch.
“So, can you try to adjust your cultivation time a bit?”
“Let me think about it.”
