Chapter 491: Tian Yan – I Think Little Jiu’s No Threat, No Need to Hide
*Yawn…*
Bai Feng let out a big yawn, then side-eyed Little Qi nestled in his arms, peacefully snoozing.
Sure enough, just like he predicted, Little Qi’s sleep consisted of a little snuggle into his embrace. Despite her nerve-wracking expression, once he gently placed his hand on her and held her close, she quickly relaxed.
Alright, time to test if his earlier guesses were right or totally off.
He reached out and softly grabbed her wrist—then his expression started morphing into something strange.
Why does Little Qi’s spirit power feel more lively now? Is she having a nightmare?
After pondering for a moment, he reached over and gently ruffled her hair. But that didn’t help at all—if anything, her spirit power seemed to ramp up even more.
‘Why is this happening? Did I guess wrong?’
As Bai Feng mused, Little Qi slowly opened her eyes. She caught him softly stroking her head, and a surge of emotion flared up inside her. She pressed closer into his arms, craving to snuggle even nearer.
‘Huh? Why is Little Qi’s spirit power escalating even further?’
Bai Feng furrowed his brow. Just as he was about to wake her, he noticed Little Qi moving lightly—definitely awake. So her increased spirit power couldn’t be a nightmare, then.
If the rise was because of him, there was no way it would have changed when she sat on his lap earlier. Hmm… then there must be some other reason…
He looked at Little Qi lying next to him, pressed firmly against his side—what if she was thinking something… saucy?
After a brief pause, he decided to ask her directly. “Little Qi, how are you feeling? Any discomfort or weird sensations?”
Little Qi hesitated her movement, her face showing a flicker of confusion. “I don’t feel anything wrong.”
“No?” Bai Feng examined her closely. “Then, is there anything else strange? I checked, and your spirit power seems more active than before you slept.”
“Hmm…”
She looked down, lost in thought, her mind firmly tugged toward him—more strongly than ever before.
Reluctant, she finally confessed her suspicions to Bai Feng.
“Maybe…”
His guess wasn’t far off—the surge in her spirit power was influenced by her emotions. So, what he needed to do was stabilize her mood.
Distance? Nope—that might work once or twice, but overdoing it could deepen her sense of insecurity—making her emotions worse.
After thinking for a few seconds, Bai Feng reached out and gently embraced her, satisfying her desire to be close. As soon as her spirit power fluctuated wildly with a heartbeat—then gradually calmed—he knew he’d been right.
Appeasing Little Qi’s emotions worked to steady her, just as he guessed.
“How does that feel?”
Little Qi’s cheeks were flushed pink. She shyly lifted her head and whispered, “But… if you do that, I’ll lose control over my emotions…”
“Sometimes, satisfying her a little is okay,” Bai Feng said softly, patting her head. “You can do what you want—just for today. Consider it a reward for your good behavior.”
“Really?”
A bright, expectant smile spread across Little Qi’s face. Her eyes closed, and she began her breakthrough.
“You’ve really gone beyond ‘bold’ now,” Bai Feng chuckled, eyeing the sudden appearance of Tian Yan. He was unfazed, knowing this was just inevitable.
“But the outcome isn’t too bad, right?”
“I was honestly worried you’d end up playing yourself into a corner—that rescuing you after that would be a nightmare,” Bai Feng joked.
“Don’t be so dramatic—I trust Little Qi,” Tian Yan replied, crossing her arms confidently.
*Ding!*
After Little Qi succeeded in her breakthrough, it seemed her previous emotional surge was finally satisfied. She didn’t do anything else; just asked Bai Feng for some guidance in swordsmanship.
“See? I told you, Little Qi can control herself,” Bai Feng said with a smile, sending her back with a wave.
Back at his seat, Bai Feng forked a small piece of cake into his mouth.
“I really didn’t see that coming,” Tian Yan lifted her fork, reaching into Bai Feng’s own cake slice without permission, stealing a piece. “If it were me, I wouldn’t pass up such a good opportunity,” she giggled.
Bai Feng teased her calmly. “If you didn’t sneak a piece when I left, what’s the point of doing it now that I‘m back?”
“Gives it a little extra thrill,” Tian Yan mumbled through a mouthful of cake.
“…And I thought the Holy Maiden Tian Yan was supposed to hide her feelings and emotions,” Bai Feng teased.
“That’s for the other Holy Maidens. But now that I’ve got you, I don’t need to hide anymore,” Tian Yan grinned mischievously.
Meanwhile, the door was nudged open slightly, and a fox-head peeked in. “Little Qi’s probably gone now, right? Can I play games with you?”
Next, Xiao Jiu’s gaze shifted to Tian Yan. Her narrow eyes squinted suspiciously—yep, that’s definitely Tian Yan’s scent! So she’s also made her move on Bai Feng?
But where has she been hiding all this time? She keeps smelling Tian Yan on Bai Feng but has yet to see her face—mysterious indeed.
Bai Feng gestured to Xiao Jiu; she hurried over, still a bit confused but quickly jumped onto his lap.
He combed through Xiao Jiu’s fur while glancing back at Tian Yan, who was still sneaking bites of cake. “By the way, why didn’t you hide this time?”
“I think she’s no threat, so I didn’t bother,” Xiao Jiu answered blankly.
*Fade out.*
