Chapter 492: Yun Yue Yao — Is Little Jiu Coming Too?
“That Tian Yan guy is such a pain in the neck!”
Even though Tian Yan had already gone back into the ring, Little Jiu kept muttering curses under her breath.
What do you mean there’s no threat? She’s a noble Nine-Tailed Fox, and she used to be (meaning her parents and ancestors) the secret realm managers for Fairy Tian Yan! She’s at least as important as you, the Holy Maiden of the Sacred Land!
Bai Feng chuckled softly, amused. He gently ruffled her head and said with a smile, “Alright, alright, let’s go play some games.”
Game talk instantly perked Little Jiu up: “Yeah! Come on, come on! I just learned a new move today. I guarantee I’ll leave you crying on the ground with no teeth!”
A few minutes later…
“Why is this happening?”
Little Jiu stared blankly at her fallen character on the screen, feeling puzzled. The move she’d spent half a day pondering over turned out to be utterly useless.
“It was pretty strong, but I almost lost,” Bai Feng sighed, looking at his still-half-health character with admiration.
“You…”
Little Jiu threw down the controller and pounced at him. “Don’t sleep too soundly tonight!”
Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded from inside the room.
Little Jiu froze mid-move, instantly stopping. She silently retracted her hand, slipped down from Bai Feng’s side, and sat obediently nearby.
She wasn’t actually scared of Yun Yue Yao—more like feeling guilty.
“Are you guys playing a game? Want to join?” Bai Feng turned around and flashed a smile at Yun Yue Yao.
“Game?” Yun Yue Yao sat beside him, eyeing the screen for a moment. “I’m not really into this type. I prefer playing big landlord.”
Bai Feng suddenly remembered the Monopoly mini-game Yun Yue Yao once dragged him into: “The one with marriage involved?”
“Exactly.”
A slight smirk tugged at Yun Yue Yao’s lips. Then her gaze shifted to that obedient little Jiu sitting beside them. An idea flickered in her mind.
This little Jiu doesn’t seem so obedient after all!
“Little Jiu, do you want to join in?” she asked with a smile.
“I…” Little Jiu was about to agree and try it out, but when she saw that playful smile in Yun Yue Yao’s eyes, her brain instantly cleared.
Nope!
She shook her head hurriedly. “Not interested. I’m leaving now!”
With that, she suddenly shifted back into her fox form with a ‘swish,’ then zipped out of the room.
“Be a bit nicer to Little Jiu, will you?” Bai Feng said, watching her run off in a daze. “You’re scaring the kid half to d*ath.”
“I didn’t scare her! She’s just guilty about something she did,” Yun Yue Yao said with a mischievous smile. “Anyway, now that we’re alone, when do you want to play big landowner?”
“You came to find me just to play big landowner?” Bai Feng asked, raising an eyebrow.
“No, I suddenly had this feeling someone was sneaking around, so I came to check.” Yun Yue Yao hugged Bai Feng’s arm tightly. “And guess what? It turned out to be that little Jiu.”
“…”
Bai Feng silently looked away.
“Want to play big landowner? If you don’t want to, we can play something else.”
“Sure. I haven’t played in ages,” Bai Feng nodded, thinking that the modified Monopoly Yun Yue Yao created might actually make it more interesting.
“Let’s go to your room and play,” she said, tugging his arm towards the bedroom.
“…”
Are you sure you’re playing big landowner?
…
“The Southern Region Battlefield is so tough! How did those guys manage to defend the city back then?”
“Yeah, so many monsters rushing in, and some of them really powerful too. Even Array Fortresses couldn’t hold them.”
“I suspect that old Bai… I mean, Master Bai Feng deliberately increased the difficulty. Just look—they only brought a handful of us. Compared to reality, we’re definitely outnumbered.”
“One of our senior brothers already asked about this at Array Peak. They said they scaled down the attacking monsters’ strength based on our abilities. But seeing how exhausted we are, they might have misjudged and are considering further cuts.”
“Hah! Who do they think they are? Just wait. I’ll call my senior brothers and sisters over, and this time we’ll crush them!”
Just as some disciples were about to call reinforcements and attack the Southern Region again, Lin Yan, who had broken through to the Refinement Stage and gone out to train, appeared. His face was filled with curiosity. He grabbed one of the younger disciples and asked, “Hey, junior brother, what are you guys talking about?”
“The virtual training of the Southern Region Battlefield. Have you…”
The disciple hesitated slightly, seeming somewhat impatient, but when he saw it was Lin Yan, his eyes lit up like he’d seen a savior. “Brother Lin, we’re saved!”
“Brother Lin’s back!”
“Let those monsters taste the power of the Fire Lotus!”
Hearing the cheers around him, Lin Yan’s expression was a bit perplexed—how did the disciples of Heavenly Sword Sect become so crazy after just a little time away?
Luckily, there were still some more stable minds among them. With their enthusiastic explanations, Lin Yan finally pieced together the situation: the establishment of Array Peak, the virtual training, and that he’d heard about this after his last closed-door retreat — though he hadn’t experienced it himself, he’d rushed off to find materials to stabilize his spiritual soul for his master.
He hadn’t expected that after just a short leave, Bai Feng would update the virtual training again.
The Southern Region Battlefield? He’d heard about it during his training outside. He never thought Bai Feng would bring the battlefield into the virtual realm—sounds pretty fun.
Also, he wondered if Luo Brother had finished his closed-door? Maybe he should invite him to check it out together. As for Bai Feng… since the virtual training was Bai Feng’s work, calling him over might be a bit unfair.
“I’ll wait a few days to rest up, then I’ll personally check out the Southern Region Battlefield,” Lin Yan said casually.
“Oh! Tell the Array Peak guys not to weaken the scene! We’ll be back in a few days, ready for a comeback!”
“Exactly! With Brother Lin here, the Southern Region Battlefield is a piece of cake!”
Lin Yan: “…”
Is he that revered among Heavenly Sword Sect disciples? He himself wasn’t even fully confident. These disciples are hyping him up like he’s invincible. What if he ends up failing? He’s got a bit of face he needs to protect.
No, he has to call Luo Brother to help out. Even if he loses, he can’t be the only one humiliated!
The next day, Lin Yan stood outside his sealed cave, sighing. He hadn’t expected Luo Brother to still be in closed-door meditation. Looks like it’s just him going alone.
Just as he was about to leave, an echoing voice suddenly sounded in his ear: “Junior Brother Lin, please enter through the small right door.”
???
Lin Yan instinctively looked at his sealed cave. If he hadn’t heard wrong, that should have been Luo Brother’s voice, right? Was Luo Brother not in closed-door meditation?
With confusion in his heart, he approached the door on the right. Suddenly, on what seemed like an ordinary stone wall, a wooden door appeared.
“What’s going on?”
He reached out, pushed the door open, and saw Luo Chen sitting inside, calmly drinking tea.
Lin Yan didn’t hold back. He sat directly across from Luo Chen, poured himself a cup, and asked straightforwardly: “Luo Brother, if you’re not in closed-door, what are you hiding in there for?”
Luo Chen put down his tea and sighed. “Hiding from people.”
“From Zixiao Peak again?”
“More or less.”
Lin Yan also set down his cup. “Luo Brother, I have to tell you— even if you still care about old feelings, you should cut them off decisively when the time comes.”
“But I already am decisive. I even fought my former master once,” Luo Chen replied.
Lin Yan’s expression morphed into that of a spectator, eager to ask: “Did you win or lose?”
“Win.”
“And after winning?”
Luo Chen paused, then said, “The Peak Master of Zixiao Peak said she no longer has the face to be Peak Master and wants to step down and hand the position to me.”
“…That’s insane. And that Peak Master position isn’t just handed out randomly, right? What did the Sect Leader say?”
“The Sect Leader told her to go cool off somewhere.”
“Well, that’s the Sect Leader for you. But this can’t be dragged out forever, right?”
“My master said he’s coming to handle it. I should focus on my cultivation for now.” Luo Chen shook his head. “Anyway, enough about that. Why are you looking for me?”
Lin Yan smacked his forehead and hurriedly explained: “Oh right! I almost forgot the main reason. Bai Feng set up that virtual training, right? And recently, there’s this Southern Region Battlefield—sounds tough. Wanna go test it out together?”
