Chapter 52: You’re Starting to Seem a Bit Obsessed—Uh, I Mean, Quirky
Bai Yu Mo tilted her head with genuine curiosity. Over the past month, she’d been sneaking around, investigating secretly. All she could confirm was that there was some sort of Spirit Stone transaction going on between two people. Occasionally, Bai Feng would bring Yu Yao some stuff—judging by the wrapping, probably a few books.
It looked like Master Sister Yu Yao was just asking Bai Feng to buy some things for her. But honestly, the outfits Yu Yao pulled out now and then were so embarrassing she almost blushed.
“Oh, this one!”
Bai Feng was a little surprised. He remembered Yu Yao always picked secluded corners when asking him for favors—because the clothing she revealed wasn’t exactly fit for public viewing. Still, he didn’t expect Bai Yu Mo to catch on.
Could it be that Bai Yu Mo misunderstood after seeing the clothes in Yu Yao’s hands?
He pondered for a few seconds and gave a straightforward explanation: “Because I have some business dealings with Master Sister Yu Yao. Basically, I invested in her clothing line. In the future, when she sells her outfits, I get a bit of profit. You know, learning Array formations costs a lot of Spirit Stones!”
Ah yes, investment in “artwork” is still investment!
“Oh…”
Bai Yu Mo nodded. That made some sense. But her heart still had doubts—why would Master Sister Yu Yao pull out those kinds of clothes?
“Next time, can I see too?”
Facing Bai Yu Mo’s question, Bai Feng suddenly froze. What do you want to see? Are you curious about Yu Yao doodling lewd pictures of your brother?
After thinking for a few seconds, Bai Feng decided to pass the buck to Yu Yao. Who else could be handling this? He only got a profit split. Besides, he guessed there wouldn’t be any problem—they probably wouldn’t mind showing her their latest cosplay outfits.
In other words, an age-appropriate version.
“Ask Master Sister Yu Yao about it. This is her thing, I only handle the profit. But I guess there won’t be any issue—she’d probably be happy to show you her new outfits.”
All age-friendly, of course.
“Alright, I will.”
Bai Yu Mo observed Bai Feng’s little change in expression, nodding. Yep, their relationship was more complicated than it seemed.
Bai Feng didn’t want to dwell on this topic. He quickly shoved a few bites of food into his mouth, saying, “Alright, timing-wise, it’s about right. Let’s hurry over and see what the Sect Master and Elders are going to announce!”
—
At a wide-open plaza…
“Wow, so many people.”
Bai Feng swept his gaze around. The square was packed with disciples, many huddled in groups—exchanging rumors they’d probably overheard from somewhere.
Despite the talk swirling around him, once he arrived, no one was pointing or whispering about him. Instead, they greeted him with smiles.
Honestly, it felt a little strange.
“Little Brother Bai, Yu Mo Sister, over here!”
From a nearby open space, Yu Yao tiptoed, waving enthusiastically at Bai Feng and Bai Yu Mo. She even jumped a few times, trying to catch their attention.
With such a commotion, Bai Feng couldn’t help but notice.
Ignoring the curious looks from other disciples, he hurriedly walked over to the Green Bamboo Peak disciples’ area, then leaned in close to Yu Yao and whispered, “Senior Sister, do you know why the sect has summoned all the disciples this time?”
“I’m not entirely sure,” Yu Yao shook her head. “I heard it has something to do with a secret realm we discovered recently. Oh! And, it seems the Sect Master might want to change the next Great Elder based on last time’s Sect Competition rankings. Honestly, I also don’t like that guy much. He looks friendly but always sounds so aloof.”
“Hm…”
Bai Feng nodded. If that was true, that was definitely good news. Without that Great Elder’s position, it’d be much harder for the Child of Destiny to target him.
Though he worried the system might use this chance to dump more Luck Points on him.
“Big Brother…” At this moment, Bai Yu Mo suddenly tugged at his sleeve. “Can I talk to Yu Yao Sister for a bit?”
“Huh?” Bai Feng’s brain paused. He looked at Bai Yu Mo in confusion. “You want to talk to her? Why ask me?”
Is this some kind of report? A kid thing?
“Thanks, Brother,” Bai Yu Mo nodded quickly, then dragged a somewhat nervous Yu Yao aside.
Meanwhile, Yu Yao’s heart fluttered nervously. Did Yu Yu Mo find out about her secret dealings with Bai Feng on those “artworks”? She’d rather d*e than let that leak—at least thirty years after she popped her clogs!
Oh, save me, Bai Feng!
Not long after Yu Yu Mo was dragged away, a figure arrived on time to stand beside Bai Feng.
Bai Feng turned to look at Su Lan Qian. She stood silently, head bowed, like a colorful statue.
He leaned a bit to the side, and Su Lan Qian moved with him—like a little shadow trailing behind.
Other than being able to move, she was just like she was in class.
Honestly, so weird! He couldn’t understand her thought process at all.
He even started to suspect that he hadn’t really rescued Su Lan Qian—maybe after she died, she turned into a resentful spirit haunting him.
*Sniff!*
Bai Feng cleared his throat. Su Lan Qian finally looked up slightly.
“No need to mind me. Just treat me like weeds or air,” she said softly.
*…*
How could she not care, with her towering height?
Well, I’ve already reached Golden Core stage, or I’d be following her to the bathroom too…
Bai Feng took a deep breath. He realized he was at a breaking point—something had to change!
“So, uh, you’re not a disciple of Heavenly Sword Sect, huh? What brings you here?”
“…I can only find peace of mind when I’m beside you,” Su Lan Qian looked away slightly, her voice quiet. Then, to clear up any misunderstanding, she added, “It’s because of my Heart Demon. I don’t know why, but when I’m near you, my Heart Demon doesn’t show up.”
Bai Feng was pretty surprised. He’d never heard of such a thing. Could it be that he had a special physique that blocked Heart Demons?
While pondering, he suddenly remembered squeezing his Heart Demon in the illusion. Maybe that’s why they didn’t dare to appear near him?
Haha, looks like Su Lan Qian’s Heart Demon is just a little brat—just like her!
“But you can’t follow me around forever, right?” Bai Feng looked at her, stroking his chin. “We’ll eventually part ways.”
“Hmm… if I have something that belongs to you,” she lowered her head even more, a faint blush spreading on her cheeks. “I… I could buy it, no matter what it is—clothes, jewelry, anything!”
Bai Feng: “…”
You’re starting to seem a bit obsessed.
Though it sounds a little pervy, he understood she just wanted to minimize her Heart Demon’s influence.
“Clothes aren’t happening,” Bai Feng waved his hand. “But other stuff, we can talk. More than money, I want some strange, weird array disks. The stranger, the better!”
Recently, he’d been dismantling Array formations, and in the process, he’d discovered many useless or mysterious formations that could be repurposed into interesting functions.
Most of these wouldn’t be practical in normal Arrays, but if placed in a Miniature Array… still not very useful!
For example, Bai Feng dismantled a stepping-counting Array feature—he could see how many steps he took each day.
But, what’s a cultivator supposed to do with that?
Apart from nostalgia, he couldn’t think of any other use. Still, he found it surprisingly fun!
