Chapter 53: Time to Find an Opportunity to Chop Him Up!
“Strange and quirky array disks…” Su Lan Qian suddenly perked up, her spirits lifting like she’d just found a treasure. She quickly started racking her brain, and within seconds, she fished out a cracked and battered array disk from her storage pouch. “Will this do? I found it while shopping! It’s kinda broken, but still works just fine!”
“What’s this thing supposed to do?” Bai Feng picked up the array disk, examining it keenly. The intricate array patterns on it looked pretty advanced, pushing the guess that it was at least a Fourth-Rank array disk, and one of the more complicated kinds within that rank.
But Su Lan Qian said she “found” it, which meant, for cultivators, this disk was probably good only for understanding arrays or maybe as a decoration, not much beyond that.
“Uh… it can project actual images,” she said sheepishly, scratching her face. “And it can only project the content from a Spirit Stone of Reflection. Basically, it plays back whatever’s on the Reflection Stone for others to watch.”
Bai Feng: “……”
Honestly, he was just curious about what kind of mental state the person who created this array was in.
“Alright, I’m happy with this array disk. I’ll take it,” Bai Feng said cheerfully as he pocketed the weird disk. Then, thinking for a moment, he handed Su Lan Qian a half-used charcoal pen. “This is my daily writing tool—does it meet your requirements?”
Su Lan Qian hurriedly took the pen—an odd-looking one, with a black inner core encased in wood, apparently worn down from frequent use. It was quite short and rough, but the wood felt smooth, likely from being repeatedly fiddled with by its owner.
She took the pen, then tiptoed a few steps away, making sure the Heart Demon’s voice didn’t follow her as she distanced herself from Bai Feng. Her face lit up with excitement: “Thanks! If you ever want to toss out anything in the future, you have to tell me!”
Bai Feng: “…… Okay, and maybe keep your voice down?”
He knew, even without looking, that everyone around was practically staring at him and Su Lan Qian like they’d just discovered some alien creature.
He just hoped no strange rumors started tomorrow.
Su Lan Qian also noticed the gazes around her and immediately blushed to a bright red.
She hurriedly lowered her head, turning into a red-faced ‘sculpture.’
Bai Yu Mo, nestled among the crowd, watched them too. She hadn’t expected that while chatting with Master Sister Yu Yao, Bai Feng’s side would suddenly sprout another curious person—still the same fiery Su Lan Qian!
She quickly stepped over, looked between Bai Feng and the silent Su Lan Qian, and found a gap to slip into.
She raised her brows, curious as can be: “Brother, what’s wrong with her?”
“It’s a bit complicated, involves the Heart Demon,” Bai Feng responded quietly. “I’ll tell you later after we get back.”
He kept his tone light, not wanting to air out personal issues openly. After all, they weren’t deep enemies. There might have been some small initial misunderstandings, but she had paid her dues. Plus, with the senior and junior sisters involved, better to keep his mouth shut about her scars.
“Hmm…” White Feather Mo nodded without pressing further, then grinned again. “Oh, and Master Sister Yu Yao agreed, so we can start designing outfits together. She also asked me to help try on some clothes—why don’t you come, Brother?”
Bai Feng immediately thought of the sketches Yu Yao had made based on his “scenery pictures”—he silently averted his gaze, mumbling, “Yeah, sounds good.”
Yu Yao probably didn’t have the guts to make his sister try on those kinds of dresses—unless she wanted to get imprisoned by the Sect Master.
…
Meanwhile, the disciples on the plaza didn’t wait long before the Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect and the peak masters arrived.
Strangely, Bai Feng didn’t spot Child of Destiny Ye Tang among them. Maybe he was still injured, or maybe something else.
Ignoring the motivational speeches that tried to rally the disciples, what the Sect Master actually said was pretty much the same as the latest news about Yu Yao:
“We recently discovered a Secret Realm near Qiuyue City, which will open soon. We plan to gather a few disciples to train there.”
“Selection will be based on the rankings of the Sect Competition, but since exploring the Secret Realm isn’t just about combat prowess, there will also be a small test—you can still qualify if you pass.”
Bai Feng yawned boredly. Honestly, he wasn’t very interested in the Secret Realm; he’d rather stay in the sect and learn sword techniques with Master Liu Meng.
“According to our investigation, the Secret Realm might be connected to the Thousand Array Sect, which disappeared centuries ago. So we’ll prioritize disciples who are proficient in Array Law,” the Sect Master said, stroking his beard and deliberately shooting a glance at Bai Feng.
Bai Feng: “……”
Well, looks like he couldn’t dodge this one.
After using a lot of sect resources—rare array materials that were hard to find outside—now they really needed him. Naturally, he couldn’t just say no.
But he was no longer the same guy from before. Thanks to the effort of the Child of Destiny and others, his fighting power had skyrocketed (with lots of gritted teeth)!
For now, he decided to lower the priority of Array Law training and ask Master Liu Meng for more swordplay lessons.
“Oh, Bai Feng, come with us later,” the Sect Master added as if he’d read Bai Feng’s mind. “We need to talk.”
“Okay,” Bai Feng said, though he was still somewhat reluctant. But he wasn’t overly worried—if the sect was willing to send him into the Secret Realm, it probably wasn’t that dangerous.
Plus, he had the Child of Destiny on his side…
Wait, that probably meant it was even more dangerous now.
While Bai Feng pondered that, the Sect Master announced the second piece of news:
“After the Sect Competition, I and the other peak masters and elders discussed several times. Ye Tang has now achieved the Perfect Golden Core, so it’s time for him to prepare for the Nascent Soul breakthrough.”
Bai Feng understood instantly: Ye Tang was about to relinquish the position of Big Senior Brother. No wonder he hadn’t seen him lately.
As for breaking through to the Nascent Soul? That was just an excuse. The Heavenly Sword Sect used to have Nascent Soul elders, but most of them had already retired after reaching the Golden Core stage, chosen to focus solely on cultivation.
So anyway, Ye Tang—the lucky Child of Destiny—probably didn’t have the time or energy left to target Bai Feng anymore.
Such a good thing! Bai Feng couldn’t help but feel a rare surge of happiness.
But before he could celebrate, a sudden idea struck him, and he hurriedly accessed the system.
Sure enough, a notification popped up:
【Ding! Detected that the host slighted Ye Tang with a petty move, causing him to lose his Big Senior Brother spot. Reward: 666 Luck Points. Unknown immortal’s work: ‘Landform Array Traps (Fragment)’】
“……”
Whatever. For the sake of his peaceful future, he’d endure it.
Bai Feng took a deep breath, trying to convince himself this wasn’t a loss. Even if a lot of Luck Points had already been added, was another 600 really a big deal?
And as long as the Child of Destiny didn’t bother him anymore, he’d come out ahead!
……d*mn! Still so frustrating!
From his understanding of the Child of Destiny, that guy would never give up. After experiencing this, he might even hold a grudge and hate his guts more.
Better to face it head-on—find a chance to chop him up?
Bai Feng started seriously contemplating this question.
