Chapter 545: The Monster Tribe Will Never Be Slaves—Unless They Get Free Food, a Cozy Spot, and Popcorn
“Alright, then, I, the Great Dao Master, agree!”
After being tortured by the Extermination Sword Array for what felt like ages, Bai Feng finally let out a victorious shout.
The full version of the Extermination Sword Array was definitely way tougher than the ragtag prototype he’d managed to grasp earlier. Even with his little helper’s aid, it took ages. He even suspected that the incomplete version was just a simplified version deliberately cooked up by the system so he could learn it easier—no, definitely not a true incomplete array.
“Extermination Sword Array, activate!”
Bai Feng raised his hands in a prayer pose and slammed his palms together with gusto. Instantly, four seemingly ordinary long swords materialized before him.
Perhaps it’s the principle of “greatness lies in simplicity,” but the full Extermination Sword Array didn’t have flashy blade light or dazzling energy. Just four plain swords floating in the air. But don’t be fooled! Any one of these swords could easily lop off the head of any cultivator below the level of a celestial being, wiping out their divine spirits and all.
“Too bad the materials for this are way too expensive.”
Bai Feng gently shook his head. He couldn’t find the four fairy-grade swords, after all. But his enemies weren’t even full-fledged immortals, so even a downgraded version of the array was more than enough. There’s no need to be too greedy.
Having mastered the array, Bai Feng naturally exited the trial space.
Next on the agenda: pay the Siku Family a visit. They dared to collude with the Divine Monarch to assassinate him—this wasn’t petty revenge anymore; it was serious business. Heavy hit needed.
……
Ling Lan, disguised as a pigeon, perched atop a tree branch. She turned her head to survey her surroundings, then set down a nondescript wooden disk on the tree trunk. In the blink of an eye, the disk melted into the tree and vanished.
“Done—another accomplished! Time to move on.”
Ling Lan didn’t slack off. She preened her feathers, then fluttered into the sky disappearing from sight.
‘This time, I will definitely clear my name!’
Every time she thought about how she was patrolling near the Heavenly Sword Sect only to be infiltrated by assassins, her anger bubbled over.
Sure, Bai Feng didn’t criticize her afterward or even cut her favorite popcorn ration, but she knew that if this kept happening, her reputation in his eyes would drop, and her popcorn stash would get smaller.
So this time, she had to put more effort into leaving a good impression!
But thinking about it, Ling Lan sighed — she truly missed the days when Bai Feng had kept her as a pet. No work, just popcorn to eat.
Freedom is precious, dignity even more so, but for Bai Feng’s homemade popcorn? Those can be sacrificed. After all, the monster tribe will never be slaves—unless they get free food, a cozy spot, and popcorn.
Especially since she’d enjoyed being a pet for a while, now back to work, she reaffirmed her belief in that motto.
‘Once I finish this task, I’ll ask Bai Feng if I can switch to being a pet again.’
Ling Lan muttered in her heart, then landed on another tree, slipping the wooden disk into the bark.
Besides her, other pigeons were busy too. But because a whole flock suddenly appeared and drew too much attention, most of them disguised as other birds. No one noticed anything fishy—yet.
Meanwhile.
“It looks like everything’s going smoothly.”
Bai Feng was no longer busy but stood on a flying boat, watching the Siku Family’s vicinity.
Though they had prevented their family members and passersby from fighting spiritual beasts with divine beasts, they were still a step too slow. Bai Feng had silently collected the layout of the Siku Family and the city they were in, then built a 3D model of the place and used Tian Yan to analyze the array formations located there.
“Young Master Bai, do you need us Nine-Tailed Fox Clan to do anything?” You Su Rong Rong asked from beside him.
“No need. This time, we won’t need many people.”
Bai Feng shook his head. This operation was a direct assault on the Siku Family, so only a few powerful cultivators were needed.
He brought along Bai Yu Mo, Yun Yue Yao, Zuo Qiu, Shui Miao Miao, and others, including Lin Yan and Luo Chen, the two lucky children of the auspicious fate. His father didn’t come personally but sent a few elders from the family. Rumor had it Yun Yue Yao’s father was also coming. The Heavenly Sword Sect found it awkward to get involved, so only Bai Feng’s master Chu Ning Yan, Liu Meng, and others went along. The sect master might be secretly following. According to Tian Yan, other holy lands might also be interested in joining the fun…
Yeah… looks like the numbers are quite impressive.
The Siku Family’s doom—probably, definitely sealed.
“Hold tight, we’re about to take off.”
Bai Feng gave a reminder and activated the flying boat. In the next second, the ship disappeared into the air.
……
“Have the city’s birds been unusually numerous these past two days?”
A guard looked up at the flying birds overhead, confused.
“Really? They’ve always been this many, haven’t they?” another guard raised his head and looked at the sky. “Hey, who cares about these birds? Whether there are more or fewer doesn’t matter. Fancy a drink later?”
“Sure, might as well. Our captain’s been acting crazy—sending us on patrol all the time, not giving us much money. Think anyone dares to mess with the Siku Family?”
“I heard some things,” the second guard whispered, glancing around. “Let’s talk at dinner, otherwise someone might overhear.”
“Why would that be a problem?”
Suddenly, a voice behind them interrupted.
“Captain!”
The two instantly straightened.
“Go get ten lashings,” the guard commander said coldly. “Hurry up! Want me to do it myself?”
“Y-yes…”
The two cursed inwardly but, as guards, they had to obey no matter how unhappy they were.
As they made their way toward the Siku Family, a giant steel flying boat suddenly appeared overhead, casting its shadow and blocking the sunlight.
“What’s that?”
One guard’s eyes widened.
“Captain, we should—” the other was about to ask but saw that the guard commander had already disappeared.
Realizing what was happening, they cursed again and hurried after the Siku Family.
Meanwhile, on the flying boat.
“Is this a bit too conspicuous?”
Little Jiu, curled up in Bai Feng’s arms, stuck her head out to peek outside. She thought they’d sneak in quietly, but Bai Feng flew the boat right over Siku Family’s territory.
“This is exactly the effect I want.”
Bai Feng rubbed Little Jiu’s head, then set her down.
He looked down at the city’s grand formation that was already activating and shook his head.
“Really cautious, huh.”
Next, he snapped his fingers. The faint glow emitted by the disks hidden in trees, rocks, and ground beneath Ling Lan and the others suddenly intensified, causing the city’s large array to abruptly halt. The gathered spiritual energy immediately dissipated.
