Chapter 574: “Alright, alright, I knew this system was familiar.”
“Phew, that was comfy.”
Bai Feng let out a relieved sigh, instantly feeling much more refreshed.
He carefully set down the Incarnation of the Tao and grinned at her, giving a big thumbs-up: “Next up, a thank-you for the reward you provided. Do you have a Image Retainer here? Need me to whip one up for you?”
The Tao Incarnation rubbed her small b*tt with her tiny hand, standing in front of him with a blank expression, just watching him.
“What’s wrong? Aren’t you supposed to say I can’t hurt you?”
“…I was probably underestimating your perversion level. I shouldn’t have used this form.” The Tao Incarnation said airlessly.
“No, you should be glad you used this form. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be just a spanking.” Bai Feng said with a teasing smile.
The Tao Incarnation remained silent for a few seconds before mumbling, “Loli-obsessed.”
“What did you say?” Bai Feng tilted his hand next to his ear, dramatically leaning in to ask.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? I heard everything.” Bai Feng reached out, pinched her little face, and started to knead it. “And you’ve got some little attitude, huh? Shouldn’t your Tao Incarnation be as emotionless as… well, the Tao itself?”
“Sorry, but Tao Incarnations that have been detached from the Tao for too long tend to develop feelings. Especially since some loli-obsessed behavior has pissed me off for many years, which only sped up the process. I believe some loli-obsessed individual should first look inside for the cause.” Her voice remained clear despite her continually being squished.
“Alright, alright, I get it. The system’s as familiar as ever.” Bai Feng’s face lit up with a smile. Seeing her so polite, he almost started to think that the system notification wasn’t written by her. Turns out, she just hadn’t revealed her true nature right away.
He pressed the Tao Incarnation back onto his lap again, a crisp sound resonating through the library.
Half a minute later.
“Are you still acting tough?” Bai Feng asked in front of her.
The Tao Incarnation covered her b*tt with her hands, turning her head away silently.
“Good, good. You’ve realized your mistake deep down.” Bai Feng nodded and casually plucked a book from the shelf, flipping through it briefly. “I almost forgot to ask the real reason. Does the Crow Immortal’s memory contain any plans from the other immortals?”
After mentioning the immortals, her face momentarily softened as she said, “There are, but not many. You can check this book for details.”
She then flew a book from the shelf straight toward Bai Feng.
He caught it with his hand and glanced at her emotionless face. He didn’t say anything, simply opening the book to read.
“Looks like the Crow Immortal doesn’t have high authority…”
After skimming the book briefly, Bai Feng lowered it. As she said, the Crow Immortal knew little—yet, he wasn’t completely in the dark. She knew some parts of the plan.
The Divine Monarch was planning to use the remains of immortals, along with residual divine consciousness inside those remains, to resurrect them. Plus, there was the stubborn Crow Immortal who hadn’t quite died—if she successfully reincarnated and revived, she could use the remains of the immortals and their residual divine consciousness to bring others back. But if the immortal remains were destroyed, they’d have to resort to another plan.
Buried deep in the Western Regions were complete immortal corpses—not just fingers or arms, but full bodies.
However, reviving such fully intact immortal bodies wasn’t simple. After all, the Fairy Tian Yan and her side wouldn’t just let the immortals bury their remains freely. These corpses were shells without souls or divine consciousness, having lost most of their divine power. This is how they managed to hide in the Western Regions during the mid-war of the Celestial Realm, before the realm was sealed.
Sadly, the Crow Immortal doesn’t know the exact locations of these corpses either. Her only connection to the Western Regions plan was: if the immortal remains are destroyed, then wait for the immortal corpse to return, and re-imbue it with intelligence.
It seems the Crow Immortal’s job is very important, but she only executes orders—she has no knowledge of the full plan. The plans are made by others, and her actions are limited, probably to prevent her from escaping if she revives. That’s why her authority is low.
He remembered the fight with the Crow Immortal; when he provoked her slightly, she instantly turned red. It must have hit a sore spot. Her strength among the immortals was probably on the weaker side.
“By the way, do the other factions’ immortals have plans for resurrection?” Bai Feng suddenly seemed to think of something and asked the Tao Incarnation.
She shook her head: “No, at least I haven’t found any.”
“Do you know what kind of cultivation method the Tian Yan uses?”
He continued asking, since cases like the Crow Immortal trying to revive herself made him wary. Maybe the Tian Yan’s practice is a backup plan for her resurrection.
“Yes.” The Tao Incarnation nodded. “Fairy Tian Yan attempted to artificially create her own Tao Incarnation, and she also made a deal with the Tao during the Celestial War. But clearly, she failed.”
She then looked at Bai Feng for a few seconds.
Bai Feng ignored her gaze, pondering aloud: “Is that the incomplete divine secret order you mentioned before?”
“Exactly. Sentient Tao Incarnations are not allowed.”
“I have a question.” Bai Feng looked down at the Tao Incarnation. “If the failure was due to not removing feelings, why can your rightful Tao Incarnation still have them?”
“I already told you—being away from the Tao for too long makes the world influence you, leading to feelings. That’s why I chose to communicate via the ‘system.’ But evidently, I failed. I still developed feelings,” she said sharply, staring at Bai Feng. “You even managed to make me feel anger.”
Bai Feng subtly shifted his gaze and said defensively, “That’s not my fault. Your hatred system is just too crappy.”
“Anyway, I’ve lost my qualification as a Tao Incarnation. Not returning to the Tao now is because reviving as a Tao Incarnation isn’t easy—so I need to keep completing my mission.”
“Do you have to return to the Tao? Dad, I kinda feel reluctant about you leaving.”
He chuckled: “Haha.”
The Tao Incarnation said nothing, just rubbing her small b*tt with her tiny hand.
“…Ahem!” Bai Feng coughed lightly. “Next time, I’ll bring you some snacks. Is there anything you’d like to eat?”
“No.” The Tao Incarnation answered expressionlessly.
“If not, then that’s fine. Do you have any other business? If not, I’ll head out first.”
“Go ahead.” The Tao Incarnation continued to respond coldly.
*Sigh* Bai Feng sighed, “Alright, after working together for so many years, can’t you be a little less cold?”
Silence was her only reply, as she kept rubbing her b*tt with her tiny hand.
“…I’m leaving.”
With that, Bai Feng hurriedly left the system library.
After he left, the Tao Incarnation turned without expression and moved to the original ladder seat. The moment she sat down, she quickly stood up again.
She looked down at the stiff wooden ladder; the next second, the wood turned into a soft cushion. She sat very carefully, and then raised a ‘window’ summon—inside was the Bai Feng who had just begun his mission. The Tao Incarnation stared at him without blinking, as if searching for an opportunity to seize Luck Points.
