Chapter 71: Can I Get the Inheritance Without Doing Anything?
Deep inside a cave no ordinary person would find, there walked a girl with white hair. She held a sword in one hand, droplets of black bl**d steadily dripping from the blade.
“Snap snap, congratulations on passing the test,” a pleasing voice rang in her ear. In the next instant, the narrow passage twisted and stretched until it opened up into a spacious underground cavern.
Little Seven’s face showed no joy. Instead, she stared at the figure approaching—from the shadows, a blurry silhouette appeared, as if filmed through a lens with a million scratches, revealing only a vague, alluring outline of the body.
“Where’s the exit?” she asked, raising her sword and pointing at the shadow, her tone flat but impatient.
The woman seemed to ignore her and kept talking as if she hadn’t heard, “Since you’ve passed the test, of course I have to reward you!”
“But before giving the reward…” she paused dramatically, “I have one question for you.”
Suddenly, the mysterious woman appeared right in front of Little Seven. Instinctively, Little Seven swung her sword forward—only to meet empty air. The illusion was cut in half at the waist, yet in the next second, it reconnected entirely.
“You… hate this world, don’t you?” the woman’s voice dripped like the devil whispering into her ear, slipping past her defenses into her heart.
It was like those random thoughts before sleep—she couldn’t help but recall her childhood woes. Rejected and hated by her parents, expelled from her home, beaten like a freak, only daring to hide in shadowy corners during the day…
Even now, she hated her own hair—if it weren’t white, she wouldn’t have been abandoned by her parents. She despised this world that had always failed to warm her, giving only endless pain since she was born.
But…
In her mind’s eye, Bai Feng appeared, a gentle light in her darkness—her first warm memory.
It was an early morning, her curled-up form in a deserted corner, so weak from days without food she thought she might d*e soon. Despite her exhaustion, she kept pulling her hair, hating her white strands even at the edge of d*ath.
Then, a steaming bun appeared before her. She instinctively looked up—there stood a handsome teenager a little older than her.
“You want to eat?” he asked softly.
Maybe because she was starving, maybe because she’d given up hope, she didn’t hesitate. She snatched the bun and started eating voraciously.
The boy just watched her, silent until she finished the whole bun. Only then did he speak again, “I opened an orphanage. Want to come with me? I promise, you’ll get buns to eat every day—eat until you’re full.”
She stared blankly at him, feeling no discomfort from his gentle smile. Her only thought was: she just wanted to eat until she was full. Even if that meant hell afterward, she didn’t care. She’d rest and then travel on—no more starving to d*ath in a gutter.
Later, she entered the orphanage. The boy arranged for her to be cleaned, and used some spiritual medicine—things she didn’t understand then—to heal her frail body. She ate buns every day, until she was full.
And the boy didn’t hate her white hair—in fact, he often praised it. He would even affectionately touch her head every day, making other orphans jealous.
That warmth, which her own parents had never given her, she finally felt from a stranger. The scars inside wouldn’t just disappear; but they could be filled.
She still hated her hair and loathed the world that had caused her so much trauma. But because of Bai Feng, she had accepted her white hair—and looked forward to the future just a little more.
“Ha ha ha, I saw it. I saw the hatred in your heart,” the woman’s voice suddenly sounded with a pleasant laugh. “It’s been so long since I met someone so fitting.”
“Get lost!”
Little Seven snapped out of her memories. Her face, expressionless as ever, furrowed her brow. Her sword shot again at the blurry silhouette.
In the next moment, the phantom reassembled without a hint of anger. “Heh heh heh, I like your character. I’ll give you the key—looking forward to meeting again someday.”
Under her attack, the vague figure dissipated, but the voice lingered.
Suddenly, a surge of black mist shot toward her. She reacted swiftly, dodging it, but the dark energy still wrapped around her sword, leaving an intricate black lotus-shaped mark on it.
She frowned, sensing an inexplicable connection forming between her and the sword.
She wanted to toss the sword aside, but then she’d be weaponless—that could mean trouble later. And she had a strange premonition: this sword might never leave her side.
After a long hesitation, she decided to carry on with the sword for now, and proceeded up the slanting tunnel that appeared in the cavern.
—
“So, you fell into this cavern while fighting the Spirit Sealing Sect and discovered it’s the inheritance site of the Thousand Array Sect?”
Bai Feng rubbed his temple as I was trying to figure out how to deal with Ye Tang. Meanwhile, you guys triggered the ‘main quest’?
Only the legendary luck of the Child of Destiny could explain how they got such a stereotypical way of gaining inheritance.
Lin Yan nodded: “Yeah, I finally passed the trial and got the Thousand Array Sect inheritance. The disciples of the Spirit Sealing Sect outside were also taken care of by Luo Brother, but then we ran into those black-clothed men. They must have used some method to hijack the Thousand Array Sect’s array and trap us inside.”
“Yeah, if it weren’t for Bai Tu and Senior Sister arriving in time, we’d be dead for sure,” Luo Chen added gratefully. “Who would’ve thought a simple mysterious realm exploration would turn into this?”
Bai Feng instinctively glanced at the three lucky kids—just from the Heavenly Sword Sect alone, there are three, plus one who’s gone, that’s four. As for other sects, they have a few more each. If this mysterious realm doesn’t blow up, that would be strange.
Imagining that, Bai Feng couldn’t help but mourn for this world’s secret realms—so many lucky ones, it probably won’t be long before they’re all dead.
“Oh, Bai-shidi, here—this is the inheritance of the Thousand Array Sect.” Lin Yan pulled out a disc resembling white jade from his storage bag. “None of us understand arrays. Better to give it to you.”
Aha, so I get the inheritance just by doing nothing?
And Lin Yan, who doesn’t even understand array formations, manages to get the Thousand Array Sect inheritance? Forget it, these are the adventures of the Child of Destiny—don’t overthink it. Maybe he has an old master secretly helping him!
Bai Feng didn’t bother with fuss—he accepted the array disc straight away. “Thanks. I won’t say too much now. If you ever need help with array techniques, just come find me.”
Lin Yan grinned: “Don’t worry, I won’t be shy about asking for your help when the time comes.”
