Chapter 79: Senior Sister, what does your family do for a living?
Bai Feng set down the array disc, rubbing his slightly swollen head with a look of exhaustion.
The heritage of the Thousand Array Sect really is something else—despite being a master of formations, he looked like he was about to pass out just trying to keep up.
“No wonder folks say the Thousand Array Sect inherited the Celestial Gate. Their design is so intricate that normal folks can’t even dream of thinking it up.”
He tapped his forehead with a thoughtful look. Summarizing the Thousand Array Sect’s formations, it’s basically stacking formations on top of each other.
Usually, stacking formations causes conflicts, and even multiplying the size usually doesn’t go beyond ten layers.
But the Thousand Array Sect can stack dozens, even theoretically over a thousand formations—hence the name.
Too bad that’s just theory. At their peak, they only stacked a couple hundred formations—mostly simple, single-purpose ones—and couldn’t break through further.
“Still, stacking formations looks cool… but it sure eats up a lot of spirit stones!”
Bai Feng sighed. Since he started studying formations, his savings in his tiny stash were almost gone.
And now, he’s hit the jackpot with this money-consuming hobby—he just can’t afford to keep doing this!
“Should I consider outsourcing?”
He started seriously considering it. He never used to profit by helping others build formations—mainly because he’s a newcomer to Heavenly Sword Sect, with little reputation, and no one’s knocking down his door for formations. Plus, there were always some rivals targeting him within the sect.
Now that the Child of Destiny has disappeared, and his reputation’s grown during his explorations of the Secret Realm, maybe people will pay him to make formations.
“Just finish the formation for Lin Yan first, then see if I can get him to help promote me.”
Bai Feng made a mental plan. Formation work directly affects his survival—he must seize the chance to get stronger.
And these Child of Destiny creatures are way too common; avoiding them only reduces encounters—not eliminates them. He even had a premonition: no matter how deep into the uninhabited mountains he goes, he’ll still be caught off guard by a Child of Destiny dropping from the sky or crashing into him.
So, strength is essential—at least to a level where he can defend himself.
Even during the worst days of the Bai family, he never gave up cultivating. Now, there’s no way he’s quitting.
Bai Feng picked up the inheritance formation disc again and studied the internal “Thousand Array” knowledge. Suddenly, an idea struck him:
Compared to stacking ordinary formations, this Thousand Array might be perfect for mini-formation setups!
Multiple formations combined could make up for the low power of tiny formations, even stacking simple, single-function formations into a complete array.
Maybe… he could even improve those animation stones, making them more powerful.
Could cause a tiny ripple in the entertainment industry in this world, at least a little.
……
“Senior Sister, the new issue of ChunQiu is out.”
Bai Feng knocked on Yu Yao’s door.
He wouldn’t usually come directly like this; normally, they agree on a place and exchange items face-to-face quickly, then split. But today was different—payment day, and he had a plan to discuss with Yao Yao for making some money.
So he brought ChunQiu with him.
A few seconds later, he heard hurried footsteps behind the door.
Then it suddenly swung open.
“Shh! Be quiet!”
Yao Yao peeked her head out, glancing around to make sure no one was nearby before finally letting out a relieved sigh.
“What’s wrong? Not many people know what ChunQiu actually is, especially at Green Bamboo Peak. Senior brother, senior sister, and others don’t seem to care much.”
Faced with Bai Feng’s confusion, Yao Yao sighed and looked annoyed: “Honestly, I don’t get it either. Who’s spreading ChunQiu among the ordinary disciples? Now, so many people know about that book.”
If her friends found out she made clothes based on ChunQiu, she’d be too embarrassed to show her face!
d*mn it, whoever’s spreading ChunQiu, I want to find out!
And you disciples—stop spreading it! You’re supposed to be a righteous sect, not gossiping about that stuff!
“Alright, you better get inside before someone sees.”
Fuming inwardly, Yao Yao hurriedly pulled Bai Feng into the room.
“You’re acting like we’re doing something sneaky,” he muttered, only to see her lock the door and twitch an eye. His heart jumped a little: “Senior Sister, don’t do that—you’re scaring me.”
“Scared? It’s useless. For my reputation, you just gotta put up with it,” she said with a mischievous grin.
“Wouldn’t that make people misunderstand even more?” Bai Feng teased. “And I feel like if anyone sees us, your reputation might get worse.”
“Then just don’t let anyone see!” Yao Yao snapped.
“You’re saying that, but just a little slip-up and everyone will know, huh? Don’t say things like that—I’d hate to be mistaken for a lolicon.”
“Sounds like you’re implying some bad stuff.” Yao Yao shot him a side-eye, grabbing his arm and dragging him inside. “By the way, Bai Yu Mo is looking for me to try on clothes. Did she come with you?”
“How dare I let her come? She’s out on a mission. I only came by now because she’s not here, bringing you ChunQiu,” Bai Feng said.
…Honestly, that’s more suspicious.
On the way in, they passed a mountain of fabric, almost filling the floor, with finished clothes hanging on the walls.
Inside the room, it was a bit more spacious, but still cluttered with half-finished outfits and rolls of fabric everywhere.
“Spill it—you came by in person, so you’ve got more than ChunQiu on your mind, right?”
Yao Yao sat on a small chair, ripping open the wrapping of ChunQiu.
Bai Feng nodded: “Yeah, I came to pick up money.”
“No worries, we’re not short of it,” she replied.
Yao Yao sighed again. This little brother of hers was good at everything, but he just loved money too much. As Bai Feng’s big brother, he shouldn’t be lacking cash.
She grabbed a pre-prepared storage bag and tossed it over. “Here.”
Bai Feng caught it eagerly, opening to peek—inside, a pile of top-quality spirit stones gleamed.
“Wow, that’s so many,” he exclaimed, puzzled. What kind of clothes could sell for this much?
“Yeah, ChunQiu’s new clothes are really popular. People, especially wealthy big families, are paying a lot. They buy several pieces at once and repeat every few days,” Yao Yao explained. “Even some merchants from Southern Region are placing orders for us. I’m thinking about hiring more people.”
Bai Feng fell silent. He originally thought Yao Yao was running everything alone, but now she sounded like a capitalist boss.
He quietly asked: “Senior Sister, what does your family do for a living?”
“Huh? You don’t know?” Yao Yao looked surprised. She thought Bai Feng admired her and wanted to cooperate because of her family background. “My family is way less fancy than the Bai family, but we do have some success in business. Yu Ling Long is ours.”
“The biggest auction house in Northern Region? The one claiming you can buy anything, Yu Ling Long?”
She nodded. “Yeah.”
Bai Feng was silent. Never thought a rich lady was right beside him.
