Chapter 84: Yu Yao: I Regret It!
“Recently, I did come up with something new,” I admitted, “but I’m not sure if anyone will actually want to buy it.”
Bai Feng first pushed away the rushing Yu Yao, then fished out a mini array disk from his storage pouch. This was a *censored* mini array disk — or more accurately, a *portable* array disk.
It had only one array carved on it, unlike his usual multi-layered, composite array disks.
“What’s this?” Yu Yao asked, taking the disk with curiosity, scrutinizing it carefully. It looked like those simple, portable array disks you carry around, but the patterns on it were significantly more intricate.
“This is a real portable array disk,” Bai Feng explained. “It’s a level five Xuan Gui Array disk. Just inject Spirit Power to activate it. Its defensive power is the same as a full-sized Xuan Gui Array, but it covers about half the usual range, and once activated, the disk can’t be moved.”
“Eh?”
Yu Yao went stiff. She glanced at Bai Feng, whose expression clearly showed he was serious, then looked back at the disk in her hands. Without hesitation, she quickly clutched it to her chest, afraid of dropping or damaging it.
“Don’t just toss such important stuff at me!”
Her palms were starting to sweat. If she accidentally dropped it, it wouldn’t just be a pile of Spirit Stones shattering — her fragile little heart would also be in pieces!
She immediately saw the potential in this portable array disk. Practically speaking, with this thing, she could toss it on the ground and buy precious time when facing an unbeatable enemy.
Even more, it could potentially shake up the entire array mage community. After all, with such a portable disk, cultivators who don’t know much about arrays wouldn’t need to hire array mages anymore — just buy a few disks and voilà.
“Junior Brother, you really created something incredible!” Yu Yao already imagined the chaos when this disk was brought out. “It might even outright change the array mage system!”
Bai Feng shook his head. “Don’t overstate it. Setting up a proper array still requires terrain considerations. This disk is for emergencies only. If you want to build a real array, a mage should do it personally.”
“No, this is enough,” Yu Yao contradicted sharply. “Large factions and above probably don’t need it, but those small factions — the ones without backing, the average cultivators who are desperate for arrays — they need this badly. They rarely see array mages, and sometimes even with money, they can’t find one to help build their arrays.”
She held up the disk, as if admiring a priceless jewel: “With this disk, they won’t have to go to great lengths to beg an array mage, or be treated coldly for asking. Do you know what that means, Junior Brother?”
“…It means I might make the hit list of other array mages,” Bai Feng deadpanned.
A somber moment passed. Did he really want to sell this portable array disk now?
“That’s an exaggeration!” Yu Yao suddenly laughed. “Right now, there’s only one, and as long as it doesn’t become widespread, it should stay in the hands of a few major powers.”
“Uh… actually, there’s more than one. It’s not that complicated to make,” Bai Feng added, pulling out another new portable disk. “I have an extra level five Spirit Gathering Array disk. Just like the Xuan Gui Array, once activated, it can’t be moved unless you turn it off.”
“Wait, what did you just say? This disk can be reused?”
Yu Yao froze again. She stared at Bai Feng, feeling like she was sitting in front of an endless mountain of Spirit Stones.
“Yeah, I went through some effort to recover it,” Bai Feng nodded. “Since the array is carved into the disk itself, and it’s a defensive tool I carry for myself, if I can’t reclaim it, I’d have to carry dozens — no, hundreds of these disks just to go out.”
Her words gave him an idea. He could produce several non-recyclable portable array disks for sale, which would also lower production costs.
Even better, he could subdivide them further, shrinking costs even more.
“I suddenly regret it,” Yu Yao suddenly stretched out her hand, grabbing Bai Feng’s shoulder with fiery eyes. “How about I change the deal? I don’t want the disk anymore — what if you just take responsibility for me instead?”
Bai Feng said nothing, only flipping him off with his middle finger.
“Don’t be so cold, senior sister! My terms are good too, think it over!”
Bai Feng flipped her off again with the other middle finger.
Even Bai Yu Mo sitting nearby couldn’t stand it anymore. She hurriedly squeezed into the middle, forcibly separating the two: “Senior sister, stop fooling around!”
“Eh, fine, fine,” Yu Yao sighed peacefully, looking disappointed. “Then I’ll take both disks, and after the auction, I’ll pay you.”
Bai Feng nodded, then suddenly had an idea. He quickly said to Yu Yao, “Oh, by the way, senior sister — don’t mention my name during the auction.”
“Why? Are you worried about being hunted by other array mages?” Yu Yao asked, puzzled. “Relax, if only you are making them, they won’t hunt you; in fact, they might even try to draw you in. Besides, don’t forget who’s backing you — the Bai Family and the Heavenly Sword Sect.”
She explained, knowing this was a prime opportunity to boost her reputation.
“Ahem, well, there’s some truth to that,” Bai Feng coughed, though he sounded a little vain. “But honestly, my reputation’s already big enough. No need to add more.”
Yu Yao nodded, not pushing further. “In that case, I’ll help hide your name.”
“Thanks, senior sister. I can make other types of array disks too. If you need auction items, just hit me up. I could use some extra money.”
Yu Yao stared at Bai Feng, tears brimming: “Junior Brother, keep talking like that, and I really might regret it!”
“I’m just asking you to help me with the auction,” Bai Feng said, a little overwhelmed by her puppy eyes. He quickly changed the subject. “Oh right, senior sister, where’s your auction house?”
Yu Yao sighed gently, realizing some things just can’t be forced. “In Xuan Guang City. I heard the city lord is recently inviting array masters to build large arrays, so it should be much safer. The city’s going to be even more prosperous.”
“Isn’t that coincidental!” Bai Feng exclaimed, surprised. “I’ll be heading to Xuan Guang City tomorrow with Master Liu Meng. Maybe I can participate in the array building.”
“Of course, it’s because they invited the Heavenly Sword Sect…” Yu Yao muttered softly, then smiled and told Bai Feng, “Anyway, you’re welcome to visit my auction house anytime, Junior Brother. I’ll treat you well.”
Bai Feng waved his hands hurriedly. “Nah, I think I’ll pass; building big arrays will probably keep me busy, and I won’t have much free time for the auction.”
This was definitely one of the places where the Son of Destiny appeared most frequently. He wouldn’t go anywhere near the auction house willingly.
