Chapter 86: I Just Want to Draw Some Risqué Artwork—What Did I Do Wrong?
White Feng and his companions just stepped off the flying boat when a group of folks nearby started heading toward them.
Leading that crowd was a woman, looking about thirty years old—at least, judging by her age. She was wearing only a loose, flowing robe, but her… well, curves definitely made the robe look like it was about to burst at the seams, emanating a sense of mature elegance.
Behind her stood several soldiers in heavy armor, seemingly the guards of Xuan Guang City.
So, it was safe to assume, that she was the City Lord’s wife.
White Feng mentally guessed.
“Master Sister Liu, welcome, welcome!”
The ‘City Lord’s Wife’ greeted with a warm smile, first exchanging pleasantries with Liu Meng and Chu Ning Yan, along with some elders from Heavenly Sword Sect. Then her gaze shifted to the disciples from Heavenly Sword Sect standing beside her, finally settling on Bai Feng himself.
She twirled a lock of hair that was dangling at her ear and made a kind, approachable smile: “I suppose this must be your sect’s new Array Genius, right? I’ve heard quite a bit about you. Not many can make the proud Spirit Sealing Sect look like they’ve lost face. Today, seeing you in person—impressive indeed.”
“Flattery will get you nowhere,” Chu Ning Yan laughed. Then she introduced Bai Feng, “Feng’er, this is the City Lord of Xuan Guang City. You can call her Gu City Lord or Elder Gu if you like.”
‘City Lord? Not City Lady, huh?’
White Feng was a bit surprised but kept his expression calm: “Gu City Lord, greetings.”
Gu City Lord suddenly chuckled: “Haha, perfect timing—my daughter just got back recently. When she arrives, I’ll have her entertain you. You youngsters have lots to talk about, after all.”
‘Daughter? Unless she was adopted, that would mean she’s married—rare to see at this level. Is the man a live-in son-in-law or something? Speaking of which, the Gu family doesn’t seem like a small clan.’
White Feng quietly pondered, then watched as Gu City Lord headed over to Yu Yao.
“Yu Yao’s here too!” Gu City Lord seemed quite familiar with Yu Yao, bending down to scoop her up into a hug. “Come on, let Auntie see if you’ve grown taller!”
“Auntie, stop! I’m not a kid anymore! Put me down! My master, sister, and brother are all watching!” Yu Yao immediately struggled, using all her strength to wriggle free from the Lord’s grasp, then she scampered away.
Gu City Lord wasn’t offended. She turned, smiling at everyone, and said, “By the way, you must be exhausted rushing over from Heavenly Sword Sect, huh? I’ve prepared a banquet at the City Lord’s Residence. After we’ve eaten, drunk, and rested up, we can have a chat about building the grand array.”
Liu Meng nodded without hesitation: “Then, many thanks for your hospitality.”
—
On the way to the City Lord’s Residence, White Feng first stole a glance at Gu City Lord chatting happily with her daughter and others ahead, then quietly moved beside Yu Yao and whispered, “Your aunt is the City Lord?”
Yu Yao still looked a bit annoyed, nodding: “Yeah, unless she’s just pretending, I like her pretty well—if she didn’t always see me as a little kid, I’d probably like her more.”
“Huh…” White Feng looked around, then asked very softly, “I’m kind of curious—how did your aunt become the City Lord? And what about your uncle? If there’s a special reason, you can just tell me to mind my own business. I’m just curious.”
“My uncle died when I was little,” Yu Yao shook her head, without much hesitation, telling him directly, “It’s no big secret. I heard he used to bully some wandering cultivator when he was young, got the other guy’s family wiped out. Turns out, that cultivator joined the Demonic Path and got some fortuitous encounters, grew stronger, and came back for revenge. He sacrificed himself to protect his wife and daughter, both of them dying together.”
…
White Feng didn’t quite know how to respond. That was quite a lot to process. Honestly, he thought the story was somewhat inspiring—even if it was about seeking revenge.
Yu Yao immediately caught his thoughts. At first hearing this, her reaction was pretty much the same as White Feng’s.
She waved her hand: “Laugh if you want, I’m used to my wild uncle. It’s a pity about my aunt, though—married into a terrible family through some arranged marriage. My uncle was a prodigal son who turned over a new leaf, only to have enemies find him again.”
“But thankfully, my aunt is pretty talented in cultivation. By some lucky chance, she became the City Lord of Xuan Guang City. Now life’s much better than before.”
“That’s really good.”
White Feng nodded in agreement. When it came to others’ family matters, he didn’t feel he should say much.
Luckily, Yu Yao’s aunt was the City Lord, not some pitiful woman kept under control. Otherwise, her daughter might have inherited a touch of Destiny Child’s luck, and he’d have to run far away.
Wait…
Suddenly, White Feng fell into deep thought. That widow with her daughter—especially with the City Lord herself holding a high position—there was a feeling they’d be targeted by the ‘Child of Destiny.’
If Gu City Lord encountered some truly tricky trouble, then—could it mean a new Child of Destiny was about to appear?
And right now, isn’t the City Lord’s estate hiding a new Child of Destiny somewhere?
White Feng hurriedly activated his system, glancing at the mini-map provided.
Relieved, he saw only the usual face of Bai Yu Mo and other Child of Destiny nearby; no other signs of new ones.
Looks like Gu City Lord’s “story” hadn’t started yet; no need to worry about bumping into a new Child of Destiny for now.
—
At the banquet, White Feng also met Gu City Lord’s daughter. Surprisingly, she didn’t inherit her Yu Yao family’s appearance—instead, she strongly resembled her mother, especially in her figure.
They stood nearly eye-to-eye, about 1.7 meters tall, with faces quite alike, just some features a little smaller.
Since cultivators don’t age easily, they looked more like sisters than mother and daughter.
Hm… more and more, she looked like the type that would be easy for a Child of Destiny to swoon over.
Hope nothing goes wrong during this grand array construction!
At least, not before he’s out of here!
“Junior Brother, after dinner, do you want to come visit my auction house?” Yu Yao reached out to tug at his sleeve. “Bring Yu Mo along too. I’ll treat you to some good stuff.”
White Feng suddenly snapped out of his wandering thoughts—almost forget this was a dangerous place!
Earlier, when Yu Yao said their auction lacked items, he hadn’t thought much about it. But now, thinking carefully—this seems like a plot involving a Child of Destiny, huh?
If he avoids getting involved with the Child of Destiny, but Yu Yao’s senior sister runs into one—what if they become friends? When she introduces him back at the sect, wouldn’t all his efforts to stay clear be wasted?
But if he worries about Yu Yao’s senior sister meeting a Child of Destiny, then going with her to the auction house is basically setting off a big metaphorical lightning strike.
No good either way.
White Feng found himself stuck, caught between a rock and a hard place.
Why was it like this? Where had things gone wrong?
If he traced the root, it all came down to—his drawing of risqué pictures, attracting a demon woman, and being forced to join Heavenly Sword Sect.
d*mn it!
All I wanted was to draw some sexy art—what did I do wrong? Why is this happening to me?
“Junior Brother?” Yu Yao noticed his mood was off and looked at him with concern. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No,” White Feng waved his hand. But inside, he made up his mind: “I remembered I need some Array materials. If Senior Sister doesn’t mind, I’ll go bother her for a bit.”
Yu Yao immediately giggled: “Hehe, don’t worry—I’m the Young Lady of Yu Ling Long. I can get you a discount on materials!”
And just like that, White Feng’s chaotic mind shifted gears.
