Chapter 263: Thirty-Eight
Campus life at the university is so sprawling that unless you’re deliberately making trouble, odds are you’ll go four years without crossing paths with the same person twice.
They needed to find someone. Honestly, it wasn’t that complicated—after all, the so-called “Great God” of the tech world should be pretty familiar to many.
After a few hours of running around like headless chickens, they finally managed to get the phone number of the legendary computer genius from a senior.
Without hesitation, they dialed.
“Hello, who’s this?”
Shen Meng Jie took a deep breath and asked, “Hi, is this Li Hao Senior?”
Hearing that charming voice, and knowing it was a girl calling, Li Hao’s tone softened instantly.
“Yes, this is… May I ask who’s speaking?”
“Hi, I have a bit of a favor to ask… If it’s convenient for you, could we meet up?”
“Convenient? Sure, sure. Where shall we meet?”
Huang Fei, eavesdropping on the other end’s eager voice, furrowed his brows deep.
But Shen Meng Jie chuckled softly. “How about the East Gate Café?”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Shen Meng Jie excitedly put away her phone and instinctively looked in the direction where Dragon Brother was.
If it weren’t for Dragon Brother’s plan, she honestly wouldn’t know what to do next.
Her only ideas had been online arguments or screenshots. The screenshots the other person had released? Shen Meng Jie couldn’t deny they were real—an undeniable fact, especially in the era of 2007–2008, when calling the cops was possible but quite rare.
Even if she wanted to explain, no one would empathize.
But if she could find out who was spreading those rumors, Shen Meng Jie dared to confront them face to face.
She knew her behavior wasn’t exactly noble, but like Dragon Brother said, even if she was to be exposed, she shouldn’t be the only one.
Plus, she’d simply been having dinner, singing karaoke with those who wanted to see her, and if they brought her more emotional value, she’d accept their next invitation.
Conversely, if the guy couldn’t offer any emotional connection and just kept playing with her body, there wouldn’t be a next time.
She enjoyed the thrill of being chased, but she wasn’t naive.
One hand alone cannot clap—if the guy hadn’t actively added her as a friend, she wouldn’t bother chatting with him.
So, she felt this wasn’t entirely her fault. A guy with a girlfriend who still hits on her? That guy deserved to be exposed online, to taste being in the spotlight himself!
If you’re confused—since the other person had already posted chat logs, even if they masked some info with mosaics, she could still precisely identify the sender from her phone’s chat history.
Shen Meng Jie lowered her head, blush creeping up her cheeks. Her language was almost textbook: just repeat the template.
Plus, she had way too many guys adding her on QQ. With the background of their chat windows identical, it was like a needle dropped into a bunch of perfectly identical syringes—hard to find the original needle that slipped in first…
—
At the café, she waited less than ten minutes.
A chubby guy walked in from outside, not very tall, glasses with thick black frames, hair styled with a side-swept bang—obvious he’d washed his hair specially.
One glance was enough for Shen Meng Jie to recognize him: it had to be Li Hao. No doubt, his unmistakably introverted aura screamed “tech nerd.”
“Li Hao Senior?” Shen Meng Jie stood up, smiling sweetly with her delicate face.
Li Hao froze the instant he saw her, a bit stunned. He hadn’t expected his “date” to be such a beautiful, sexy girl.
He blushed right away.
Walking across to sit opposite her, he didn’t immediately take the seat but asked instead, “Did you call me earlier?”
“Yeah.” Shen Meng Jie saw his face turn red and couldn’t help but smile even sweeter. “Thanks for squeezing out time from your busy schedule to meet me here, Senior.”
Her tone was sweet, and her beauty undeniable—a scene that, to boys who’d never been in love, left a deep impression.
Li Hao certainly couldn’t escape the impact.
He coughed awkwardly, sat down, and asked, “Which department are you in? Do you need help with anything?”
“Senior, I’m Shen Meng Jie, and…”
The previously cheerful Li Hao’s smile vanished the moment he heard her name.
His expression turned serious in an instant.
“I can’t help with your busy schedule.”
He stood up to leave.
Shen Meng Jie was caught off guard. Just a second ago, he’d still seemed interested in her…
Seeing that Li Hao was about to walk away, she couldn’t hold back and hurriedly blurted, “Li Hao Senior, what’s wrong? Did Meng Jie offend you somewhere?”
Meanwhile, the people waiting outside saw the scene unfold and instinctively moved closer.
Li Hao looked at the crowd approaching him, a wave of fear rising.
Turning to Shen Meng Jie, he said, “Wasn’t it you who called me? Why did you call so many people? Are you trying to toy with guys like me? You woman will reap what you sow.”
This barrage of questions stunned Shen Meng Jie; especially that last part—”reap what you sow”—left her momentarily at a loss.
Huang Fei stepped forward and pointed at Li Hao. “Watch your mouth.”
Dragon Brother stepped in, pulling Huang Fei’s arm down and apologetically said, “Sorry about this, but may I ask why?”
Li Hao shot an unimpressed glance at Huang Fei, then fixed his gaze on Dragon Brother.
“Y’all are together, right?”
Seeing Dragon Brother nod, Li Hao’s disdainful look intensified.
“Since you’re a couple, why ask why? No reason needed.”
He then looked at Shen Meng Jie, who was still confused, and sneered slightly, “Wow, turns out you’ve got talent—messing around with thirty-eight guys online, and in real life, so many people are willing to stand up for you…”
Hearing that, Dragon Brother looked at Shen Meng Jie with a blank face.
Faced with Dragon Brother’s gaze, Shen Meng Jie hung her head in shame. She really didn’t remember there being so many…
Words were hard to find, but Dragon Brother caught two major points from Li Hao’s words.
First— even Shen Meng Jie herself was confusing the chat records, unsure which message belonged to whom.
Second—Li Hao had accurately uttered “thirty-eight.”
So, Dragon Brother looked at Li Hao and asked, “Thirty-eight? Isn’t that a bit exaggerated?”
