Chapter 267: Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em, Dragon Brother
In dormitory 147 for boys…
Suddenly, Dragon Brother’s penguin video call alert blared.
He glanced at it and promptly hung up.
But soon enough, another video call came in.
Again, he chose to toss it into the digital void.
Ding ding~
Message alert: “If you don’t come down, I’m not leaving!”
“If anyone asks, I’ll say I’m here looking for Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em Dragon Brother.”
Seeing these two messages, Dragon Brother dragged himself to the balcony, spotting Shen Meng Jie standing alone downstairs.
She was pulling off a serious fashion statement with her hoodie and cap…
It was as if she sensed him, for she suddenly looked up and locked eyes with Dragon Brother.
With that defiant stance, she looked like she was ready to stand there until someone brought her a solid gold ticket to his heart.
Dragon Brother couldn’t help but withdraw a little. Just a moment before, Shen Meng Jie’s face was all tough. Now, she suddenly smiled and said, “Your kindness is your biggest weakness!”
Sure enough, not long after, there was Dragon Brother at the dorm entrance.
Shen Meng Jie approached him, “Come with me.”
“Stop pulling me around.”
Letting go of his arm, she looked at him seriously: “What do you think I should do?”
“What should you do about what?”
Without responding, she continued to lead Dragon Brother to a quieter corner, then pulled out her phone to hit play on a recording.
Once Dragon Brother finished listening to it, he let out a big sigh, “So, what’s the deal?”
“Should I expose this recording?”
“That’s your call.”
“But, but I don’t know…” Shen Meng Jie was clearly in a bind and instinctively sought Dragon Brother. After all, something in her gut told her he was the one with the right answer.
Seeing Shen Meng Jie in that dilemma, Dragon Brother chuckled, “If you expose your secret, you should really hate Zhang Meng Meng, right? So what’s with the hesitation?”
Shen Meng Jie turned her head, feeling like Dragon Brother was mixing in some sarcasm, but she had no evidence.
“To be honest, when I first found out it was Zhang Meng Meng, I wanted to tear her face off. But strangely, I didn’t. Now I can’t even muster up any hate; I just feel sorry for her.”
At that moment, Shen Meng Jie suddenly shook her head, “I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
“Hate comes from caring, and not hating comes from not caring at all.” Dragon Brother said slowly, impressed by her inner strength.
Perhaps, just like Shen Meng Jie mentioned that night, she never truly cared…
Or maybe if it were someone else today, that recording would’ve already made its debut on the campus forum.
If people called her kind-hearted, well, she could snag thirty-eight guys without breaking a sweat. But if they said she wasn’t kind, here she was, struggling with it.
Shen Meng Jie was like a walking contradiction…
Looking at her phone, she murmured, “If I expose it, it would definitely prove my innocence…”
“That’s something you should think through yourself. But let me remind you—you’re not innocent; everything in those allegations is true…”
“I know, I know! You don’t have to keep reminding me that I’m not a good person…”
“That’s what you said! I never said anything of the sort.”
Shen Meng Jie shot a glare at Dragon Brother: “Come on, don’t think I don’t know what goes on in that brain of yours.”
She smirked at herself, realizing just how self-aware she was…
“But… thanks, I guess.”
Initially, Shen Meng Jie really didn’t care much because, deep down, she felt that’s just who she was.
But Dragon Brother made her realize that even if she wasn’t exactly honorable, the other person, if they had a girlfriend and still tried to hit on her, deserved equal punishment. (The school forum exploded with posts: “Homewrecker alert: Seducing someone else’s boyfriend like a pro!”)
The result wasn’t what anyone had imagined at first.
But at least Shen Meng Jie learned that while others might belittle her, she shouldn’t let those opinions bring her down.
“Okay, finally getting to the point—yes, you should be thanking me.” Dragon Brother felt he definitely deserved a thank you, no doubt about that.
After all, he drank a whole can of beer just to keep Shen Meng Jie from toppling over into the artificial lake when she eventually got tipsy.
Say thank you? Absolutely earned it!
“Has anyone told you that you’re really full of yourself?” Shen Meng Jie really wanted to smack Dragon Brother a good one!
When serious, he could chug beer one can after another without batting an eye—so reassuring. But when he wanted to joke around, he acted like a little kid, arguing and bickering like he was the cockiest kid on the playground!
“Uh… Dragon Brother… I…”
“Spit it out! If you’re going to hesitate, you’re really testing my patience!”
Hearing this, Shen Meng Jie bit her lip and looked up at him: “Dragon Brother, how do you really see me?”
“How do I see you?”
“Uh-huh.”
“With my eyes, of course! How else would I see?”
“You… you’re insane!” With that, Shen Meng Jie stormed off, but not before flipping up her hat.
Her long, flowing hair cascaded down her shoulders as she moved.
Her sexy, stunning face tilted slightly up, taking a deep breath of fresh air.
Turning her head just so, the sunlight outlined her profile sharply: “I don’t care about other people’s opinions!”
Now, was that answer for Dragon Brother or somehow about her attitude in that moment?
Watching Shen Meng Jie’s retreating figure, Dragon Brother stretched lazily. “Ah, what a mess. Shen Meng Jie loves drama, Zhang Meng Meng? If only they had sorted this out earlier, we wouldn’t be in this chaotic whirlwind.”
“What if I opened a counseling session? First student: Zhang Meng Meng. How much should I charge for that, I wonder…”
“Ugh—don’t think too hard, the more I think about it, the more I feel like a life coach…”
Back in the dorm…
Just as he lay down on the bed, the door swung open.
Huang Fei had returned.
“How’d it go?”
Still clueless, Xu Shuai and Li Long Long rushed to ask.
Huang Fei exhaled deeply: “It’s Zhang Meng Meng.”
“Whoa! Zhang Meng Meng?!”
“Only enough drama to put on a show, what a performance she put on!”
“Why though? What’s going on?”
Faced with Xu Shuai and Li Long Long’s eager questioning, Huang Fei fell strangely silent.
“And where’s Zhang Meng Meng?” Dragon Brother asked.
“She cried for a long time, then went back to pack her stuff.”
Upon hearing this, Dragon Brother merely nodded without saying anything more.
Right and wrong were hard to judge.
Shen Meng Jie had erred on a moral level; even without Zhang Meng Meng’s exposure, it was only a matter of time before the truth came out.
Was Zhang Meng Meng wrong? Setting aside all other factors, if her boyfriend was really stolen away by Shen Meng Jie, every action she took was understandable.
But to betray a friend and roommate all for personal gain? That was pretty cutthroat…
In the end, both sides lost…
