Chapter 46: Dragon Brother’s Moment in the Spotlight
Ye Liang Chen trudged back to the classroom looking like he’d just eaten a lemon massage.
Sitting down, he closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh that sounded like a dying whale.
Wang Ruirai shot him a curious glance.
“What’s up with you? You made Li Qing Xue cry, and now you look like you’re about to explode?”
At the back of the room, Gao Quan spotted Ye Liang Chen and thought about what Hu Yu Ying had just said.
After a brief hesitation, he decided to be brave and speak right in front of Li Qing Xue:
“Brother Chen might have given up on chasing Qing Xue, but since we’ve been friends for so many years, I can’t just sit back and do nothing. So, Brother Chen went to find Dragon Brother…”
He shot a deep glance at Li Qing Xue before plopping back into his seat.
Hearing this, Li Qing Xue, who had been silent all along, clenched her pen tighter.
Her gaze towards Ye Liang Chen was complicated—like watching a soap opera where you hope the hero wins but fear it’s all just tragedy.
Ye Liang Chen, feeling her gaze, stayed unfazed. He merely turned his face toward the window, showing off his razor-sharp jawline.
“Brother Chen, I’m sorry.”
“Even though you told me not to say anything, I still said in front of Qing Xue that you went to find Dragon Brother because of her,” Gao Quan whispered. “You won’t blame me, right?”
He thought, if Ye Liang Chen would do all this for Li Qing Xue, then maybe he shouldn’t hide it.
Honestly, he’d never seen such pure devotion—nothing said, just silent sacrifices behind the scenes.
This kind of love, Gao Quan had only seen on TV.
It showed just how deep Ye Liang Chen’s feelings for Li Qing Xue ran.
Ye Liang Chen’s heart was practically dancing with joy. On the outside, he kept a calm front, his voice deep and steady:
“You fool, Brother Chen wouldn’t blame you. You just spoke the truth.”
At this point, he cracked a self-deprecating smile.
“Besides, all this was my choice—no intention of making Qing Xue feel indebted or touched.”
“Brother Chen’s love is so grand,” Gao Quan said, visibly moved.
“Men, that’s how we’re supposed to be. You just haven’t met someone you like yet. When you do, you’ll be just like Brother Chen,” Ye Liang Chen said, voice unintentional in its sincerity, with a pure bubble sound that was strangely gravelly.
After saying this, Ye Liang Chen kept his eyes on Li Qing Xue’s back.
He saw her glance like she might turn around, so he raised his eyes at a forty-five-degree angle, a perfect half-smile of self-mockery.
…
Meanwhile, Dragon Brother (Lóng Ào Tiān) and Hu Yu Ying finished lunch and returned to class.
He paused, frowned slightly, and surveyed the room with a raised brow.
Everyone meeting his gaze quickly looked away.
“Do I have something on my face?” Dragon Brother quietly asked Hu Yu Ying.
Hu Yu Ying looked seriously, shook her head, and went back to her seat.
Strange, everyone around seemed to be sneaking glances at them. An unexplainable weird vibe filled the air.
He reflexively touched his face, worried he’d got something on it.
This peculiar feeling persisted through class and until the teacher handed out the morning test papers.
Dragon Brother, who usually ranked last, surprisingly moved up four spots—ranking fifth from bottom.
If that had been before, everyone would say he was just a blind cat that happened upon a dead mouse.
But now, they all believed this was Dragon Brother’s big love-induced change.
And the one behind this transformation? Hu Yu Ying!
But when Hu Yu Ying saw her score, the classroom suddenly went quiet, then erupted into chaos.
She scored eleven points higher than the second-place student—her math score was the top in the class!
Everyone couldn’t help but look at Hu Yu Ying. Yet, she showed no obvious emotional reaction.
Meanwhile, Dragon Brother’s face lit up like he’d just won the lottery. It was like he’d just hit the moment of his life’s high—his own personal highlight reel.
For him, jumping from the bottom to fifth place was a massive, proud achievement!
Seeing this, Wang Shuo stared at his own score of five points on the crumpled test paper, a bitter smile on his face:
“Done for. Last time, Dragon Brother was bottom. When I get home, my dad’s probably gonna beat me with seven wolves for this.”
The teacher finished explaining the entire test paper in a lesson.
Hu Yu Ying, however, spent the entire afternoon reviewing every mistake, taking notes, and listing corresponding problems.
All so that Dragon Brother could redo them during evening self-study.
When focusing on one thing, time always flies.
Soon, Dragon Brother welcomed his second weekend in this world.
…
Saturday Morning.
Li Qing Xue woke up early out of habit, staring through the window at the gloomy, gray world outside.
The weather was not great—cloudy and heavy.
Staring at the overcast sky, she fell into thought—lost in her own world.
Unaware of how long she’d been daydreaming, she got dressed, grabbed an umbrella, and went out.
Today, she woke up unusually early. Her mom wasn’t even up yet cooking breakfast.
She grabbed a bottle of milk from the fridge and jogged out the door.
A wind was picking up!
Li Qing Xue pulled her coat tighter and quickened her pace.
Reaching the riverbank, she looked up.
Due to the weather, there usually were lots of elderly exercising there, but today, only a few sparse figures.
With a single raindrop falling, the remaining people began to head home.
Li Qing Xue wandered to the grass by the river, opened her umbrella, and sat down.
The sound of the wind sweeping across the water, flowing river currents, raindrops hitting the umbrella, and the dampness on her face—these sounds composed the most beautiful and unique natural orchestra.
She listened quietly, feeling a rare sense of peace and relaxation.
The rain grew heavier, soaking the grass.
Li Qing Xue slowly stood up.
Checking the time on her phone, she headed toward the slope.
Standing on the flat cement ground, she looked around again.
Raindrops rippled across her vision, forming a shimmering curtain of rain.
“Hmm, weather like this is perfect for sleeping,” she mumbled.
Just as she was about to leave, her gaze caught a figure in the park pavilion nearby.
Lazily lying on the pavilion bench, she saw someone.
Li Qing Xue’s eyes flickered, changed her course, and approached the pavilion.
Before she was close, she heard soft humming inside.
Entering the pavilion, she put away her umbrella and placed her milk beside the figure.
Hearing the noise, Dragon Brother opened his eyes:
“Are you here just to find me?”
He looked at the milk beside him.
“Or is there something you just can’t figure out?”
“People your age, if only you could focus your energy on studying instead of wasting it on foolish things, you’d all be top students.”
