Chapter 55: I’m the Most Competent Little Sidekick
Hearing Li Qing Xue’s words, Dragon Brother (Male) Dragon Ao Tian raised a light eyebrow.
Communication between people can be felt just from their personalities and speeches—it’s like reading a user’s manual for understanding someone’s personality. At least Dragon Ao Tian could tell this classmate wasn’t throwing a bunch of convoluted stuff—she was bravely pouring out her troubles to a complete stranger.
In words of his bygone era, it was simply “heartless and carefree”: “You still haven’t told me your name?”
Li Qing Xue straightened her posture, faced Dragon Ao Tian directly, her eyes curved into bright, lively smiles, full of energy and joy: “Hello! Nice to meet you again. My name is Li Qing Xue.”
Hearing this, the smile on Dragon Ao Tian’s face froze slightly and then completely vanished.
Li Qing Xue? If he remembered correctly—that’s the second female lead, Bai Yue Guang, isn’t it?
She’s Li Qing Xue, the girl who pursued and confessed to her 99 times—what if…
A cold shiver ran down Dragon Ao Tian’s spine at the thought of it.
Li Qing Xue blinked suspiciously: “What’s wrong?”
Looking at Dragon Ao Tian’s stunned, dumbling face, she couldn’t help but chuckle: “Nothing, nothing at all!”
Dragon Ao Tian coughed twice before he slowly managed to say, “Uh… Sorry to ask, but that friend you’ve known for nine years…”
Before he could finish, Li Qing Xue softly chuckled: “He’s Ye Liang Chen.”
“Haha! No kidding?” Dragon Ao Tian’s last shred of hope was shattered outright—there went his tiny fantasy that maybe, just maybe, this was all a big coincidence.
“What?” Li Qing Xue didn’t catch that clearly, so she asked again.
“Nothing much, just… fine,” Dragon Ao Tian answered with a shrug.
Li Qing Xue looked like she wanted to say more but was interrupted by a voice even faster: “Dragon Brother, you should start your homework now.”
Hu Yu Ying whispered softly, glancing at Li Qing Xue with a gentle smile.
Dragon Ao Tian watched Hu Yu Ying—the one who took the initiative to greet Li Qing Xue—still looking a bit surprised.
To know, Hu Yu Ying usually kept quiet, only talking more around him because he handed her the boldness mission.
“Hey, this is the little teacher responsible for giving me tutoring,” Dragon Ao Tian said with a grin, giving Hu Yu Ying a sideways glance.
Li Qing Xue looked at Hu Yu Ying with a bright smile: “Hello, I forgot to introduce myself last time. I’m Li Qing Xue.”
“Hi, I’m Hu Yu Ying,” she said softly, not showing the nervousness or jitters typical of someone shy. Instead, she looked confident, speaking gracefully.
Li Qing Xue looked at Hu Yu Ying a couple more times: “Then you guys should dive into review quickly. I should go practice too.” With that, she turned to leave.
Watching Li Qing Xue’s departing back, Hu Yu Ying was still in shock when a tap on her head jolted her back to reality: “What are you standing there for? Let’s go.”
“Mm,” she responded softly, releasing the breath she had just held. Like a tiny chick, she followed Dragon Ao Tian obediently.
Back at their seats, Hu Yu Ying’s spirits clearly weren’t as high as before.
Her mind was all about Li Qing Xue’s smiling face saying, “If you need extra lessons, I can teach you too…”
She sneaked a glance at Dragon Ao Tian, watching him seriously study, then quietly asked, “Dragon Brother, are the study methods I taught you effective?”
“Absolutely,” Dragon Ao Tian replied without even looking up.
In Dragon Ao Tian’s heart, Hu Yu Ying was a fantastic little teacher.
Whenever he didn’t understand a problem, she always explained in the simplest way he could understand.
That math pop quiz last time was the best proof—he actually improved by four rankings.
Hearing his reply, Hu Yu Ying finally sighed with relief: “Then, can I keep teaching you?”
“What nonsense! Isn’t that what you’ve been doing all along?” Dragon Ao Tian looked up at her with a smile.
“No, really,” Hu Yu Ying slightly panicked, anxiously gazing at him, then suddenly lowered her eyes, her voice muffled with a hint of disappointment: “I mean, can I just teach you?”
The later part of her voice grew softer and softer; if they weren’t so close and if Dragon Ao Tian wasn’t better at hearing, he might have missed it entirely.
Seeing her like this, Dragon Ao Tian had a guess—was it Li Qing Xue’s words just now that made this little girl feel threatened? Afraid he wouldn’t let her be his little sidekick anymore?
He found it amusing and chuckled, “I’ll consider it.”
Hearing this, Hu Yu Ying bit her lips, looking even more awkward.
This little girl’s demeanor was just too adorable—soft and tender. He was itching to pinch her cheeks, to redden her soft, tender skin, then watch her big watery eyes for that puzzled, helpless look.
Shaking his head to dispel these wicked thoughts, he immersed himself again in the homework Hu Yu Ying had corrected.
Math was manageable, but some physics problems still required a serious cerebral workout.
Senior year’s night self-study was mostly self-led.
A good study atmosphere would easily make one sink into it unknowingly.
He didn’t know how long had passed.
Suddenly, Dragon Ao Tian felt someone gently tugging at his sleeve.
He turned his head to see Hu Yu Ying.
She looked at him, then placed a lollipop on his desk.
Perplexed by her strange gesture, Dragon Ao Tian didn’t understand.
Then Hu Yu Ying took a deep breath, timidly asked: “Dragon Brother, have you decided?”
“I’m your little sidekick, and I’m especially obedient,” she added shyly.
Dragon Ao Tian held back a smile, picked up the lollipop from the desk, and gently tapped her on the head: “Where did you learn that from? Bribing me, huh? Just holding this as a test to see if I’m trustworthy?”
Hey, little master, there’s more to this chapter—click ‘Next’ to continue reading for even more excitement!
Seeing how Hu Yu Ying looked, Dragon Ao Tian thought if he didn’t answer her today, she probably wouldn’t sleep tonight.
She was already eighteen; still with a kid’s temper.
He really didn’t know what to do about her.
“Little teacher, you’ve worked hard in the future,” Dragon Ao Tian said, extending his hand toward Hu Yu Ying.
She looked at his outstretched hand and flashed a bright smile, then nodded heavily and grasped his large hand: “Hmm.”
“Eat this yourself,” Dragon Ao Tian said, placing the lollipop on Hu Yu Ying’s desk.
Hu Yu Ying’s eyes shimmered with a faint smile, then took another lollipop from her pocket: “I have more. This one’s for you.”
“You smile so nicely. You should smile more,” she said.
That phrase—“You smile so nicely”—had come out of Dragon Ao Tian’s mouth for the second time. The first time, Hu Yu Ying was wondering why everyone’s happiness seemed so simple.
Now she realized—happiness really could be that simple.
“Dragon Brother, what do you want for breakfast tomorrow? The home-cooked dishes are too many for me to finish alone. The weather’s getting hotter; the vegetables can’t last, and the meat and ribs in the fridge have been there too long—they won’t taste good anymore.”
“Won’t it be troublesome?”
Hu Yu Ying shook her head, confidently replying: “Not at all. I’m going to eat breakfast myself, just cooking a bowl of rice, it’s really no trouble.”
“Then I’m all in.”
Hu Yu Ying secretly nodded. After several times cooking, she’d found Dragon Ao Tian’s appetite was quite good.
Whether it was congee, steamed buns, stir-fried dishes, noodles, rice, or stews, he liked everything.
So, she had plenty of room to shine as a little sidekick…
He was truly the most capable little helper.
