Chapter 94: Taking Hu Yu Ying Shopping for Supplies
Back at Hu Yu Ying’s place.
Hu Yu Ying poured a glass of water for Dragon Brother, then looked at him hopefully. “Brother Long, how are we going to sell clothes?”
“Tomorrow, you’ll find out,” he said, then his gaze shifted to her. “Dare you go out-of-town with me?”
“Out-of-town?” Hu Yu Ying blinked in surprise. Honestly, she was pretty timid. Coming to this city alone for school was pretty nerve-wracking back then.
She hesitated, but thinking that Brother Long was right here with her, she nodded obediently. “Sure.”
Seeing her hesitance and nervousness, Dragon Brother couldn’t help but laugh.
Sometimes, it wasn’t that Dragon Brother liked teasing the little girl, but she always managed to accidentally show that innocent, sincere sort of dumb charm—so he just had to tease her.
How to describe that feeling? It’s like being 18 and meeting an 8-year-old kid—you’d probably want to tease them a little, right?
“Are you not scared I’ll take you out of town and sell you?”
Hu Yu Ying shrank her neck a little, but then suddenly caught his mischievous smile and immediately knew he was planning to tease her again. She hurriedly said, “I’m not afraid!”
“Alright then, get up early tomorrow. Let’s go check out the market.”
“Yeah, I’ll wake up early and prepare breakfast.”
“That’s a good little apprentice.”
Hu Yu Ying heard Dragon Brother chuckle and go back to being not-so-serious, teasing her again. She pouted, blushing. “Y-You’re saying… you won’t make me cook for you anymore in the future?”
As cute as she was, her threat was about as threatening as a soft kitten—so adorable, no harm at all.
In the afternoon, they ate lots of snacks, and Dragon Brother didn’t stay for dinner at her home.
After seeing Dragon Brother off, Hu Yu Ying happily skipped back to her tiny room.
She pulled out a metal box from under her bed.
Counting the money inside, she whispered to herself, “Hope this is enough.” Her face was a little troubled.
All these coins were saved little by little. Now she pulled out a big chunk—first, she didn’t worry about wasting it, but whether it was enough.
Because she trusted Dragon Brother too much. But she couldn’t do anything—this was all she had managed to stash so far…
Taking a deep breath, she turned on the light, grabbed some needles and thread, and sewed a hidden pocket on her pants. Then she carefully put the money inside.
“I really am too cautious,” Hu Yu Ying patted her secret pocket happily, proud of her cleverness.
Meanwhile, elsewhere…
Dragon Brother returned home.
Old Man had closed up shop early and was already at home. Seeing his son arrive, he asked nervously, “Son, how’d it go?”
Looking at Old Man’s nervous face, Dragon Brother laughed. “Most of it went fine. It should be alright.”
Hearing that, Old Man was also happy. “Come on, let’s go out for a nice meal tonight. These coins are for you—treat Little Apprentice to dinner. Honestly, she’s been helping you study all this time.”
“Just eating at home is fine. Oh, Dad, I want to use the sunshade on our tricycle.”
Dragon Brother’s savings jar was getting pretty full—coins, stocks, all appreciating nicely. Enough for him to splurge for a while.
“Tricycle? What do you want with that?” Old Man asked.
Before, he used the tricycle to haul pork before setting up a shop. Since he got a storefront, the tricycle was rarely used now.
“I want to start selling stuff again. There are still over two months of summer, and I don’t want to just laze at home all day.”
Old Man nodded without hesitation.
As long as his son wasn’t hanging around those outsiders, he was supportive.
“Alright, since it’s still daylight, I’ll go wash the tricycle for you.”
“I’ll help!”
Seeing how responsible his son had become, Old Man couldn’t help but smile. Everything about him looked more spirited than usual.
They grabbed some dish soap, steel wool, cleaned the tricycle thoroughly.
Old Man had thought Dragon Brother wouldn’t know how to ride, so he was going to teach him.
But the kid rode it better than him!
Dragon Brother drove the tricycle around outside, took some money out from the bank ATM, then headed back home.
The next morning, just as dawn broke, Dragon Brother was already riding his bike to Hu Yu Ying’s house.
He had some congee, then went to buy train tickets to Yidiao.
Boarding the train, Hu Yu Ying desperately tried to look calm, but her clenched little fists betrayed her anxiety.
Watching the scenery rush past outside, Dragon Brother chuckled. “Take a nap. There are still several stations to go.”
Hu Yu Ying shook her head, clutching her sewn-in pocket tightly: “I’m not sleepy. I don’t need to sleep.”
Half an hour later, Dragon Brother couldn’t help but smile but also had to hold back. His whole body trembled slightly.
He looked over at her, head bobbing as she fought sleep. With a sigh, he gently guided her head onto his shoulder.
Suddenly, she had a place to lean on. Hu Yu Ying moved a little, finding a more comfortable position, and sank into a deeper sleep.
Around 4:30, they arrived at Yidiao station—by then, it was already past nine.
He gently shook the still-sleeping Hu Yu Ying. “Wipe the drool, then go back to sleep.”
She blinked drowsily, quickly lowered her head, and shyly touched her lips.
She realized her mouth wasn’t drooling and immediately knew Dragon Brother was teasing her again.

Just when she was about to refuse Dragon Brother, she noticed the train was slowly stopping. She looked blankly at the platform outside. “Brother Long, are we there?”
“Yeah, we’re here. Prepare to get off.”
“Okay!” Hu Yu Ying felt a little embarrassed again—she’d slept through nearly the whole trip…
Watching her sleepy, adorable look, Dragon Brother couldn’t resist. He randomly tousled her hair. “If I really sold you, with you sleeping so peacefully, how would I ever find my way back home?”
Hu Yu Ying didn’t reply, but obediently fixed her messy hair, her face flushed with shy embarrassment…
After getting off the train, as more carriages emptied, someone shouted, “Hold tight, get your tickets ready—lots of people now!”
“Mm-hm.”
Arriving in this unfamiliar city again, she was nervous but grateful to have Dragon Brother by her side.
Because having him right there made her feel safe and secure.
As the crowd thinned, Dragon Brother took Hu Yu Ying by the hand and led her outside.
“Let’s eat something first—I’ll take you shopping for supplies.”
“Okay.”
“You’re such a good girl.”
“I’m afraid Brother Long might sell me.”
“Then I’ll punch you?”
