Chapter 100: Lu Liangting: Doctor? Useless!
Having spent so long by Bai Yu’s side, Zhao Mingyue had picked up quite a bit about her, especially concerning those so-called “old friends.” To Zhao Mingyue, the relationships Bai Yu had with these people didn’t seem particularly good; rather than friendship, it felt more like fear.
This was precisely why people like Shen Shuyun would try to interact with Bai Yu.
Actually, there was no reason to worry about their relationships developing too far—at best, they could only become partners in crime, and even then, they’d have to watch each other’s backs for any potential backstabbing. In short, it was a classic case of “fragile sisterhood.”
But that scaly creature from earlier? Now that was a different story!
The girl was in a completely different situation from Shen Shuyun. It wasn’t just a simple cooperative arrangement; things were moving toward something beyond friendship, and it was Bai Yu who was being pursued.
Zhao Mingyue trusted her instincts!
These two had a history that was definitely more than meets the eye!
This was the first time Zhao Mingyue witnessed Bai Yu actively seeking a collaboration. With Bai Yu’s personality, anyone who could prompt her to ask for cooperation must be something special—not just powerful, but trustworthy enough to avoid any hidden agendas.
In short, they had to be super familiar with each other, from their strengths to personalities, even down to their needs.
After all, when Shen Shuyun wanted to team up with Bai Yu, Bai Yu had never agreed.
Lost in thought, Zhao Mingyue walked back into the ancestral hall.
The corpse was still on the ground, but the head had rolled away. Zhao Mingyue’s first glance upon entering was fixed on that head, which wore an expression of terror.
“Bai Yu, are there any ghosts in the ancestral hall?” Zhao Mingyue couldn’t help but feel a chill at the sight of the head.
“Nope, it’s clean here.”
Compared to the village, the ancestral hall was practically a sanctuary. All the dark stuff lurking in the village, even the malicious intent of the Evil God, seemed to deliberately avoid this place.
Bai Yu stepped inside, walking on the statue behind the headless corpse. This statue looked quite similar to the A She Godmother in Dong Village, albeit with some differences in detail and seemingly a male gender—all four of its arms carried different objects.
Three representatives—two had been killed, and one was a player hiding in the shadows, perhaps watching everything unfold in the village from a corner.
At this thought, bl**d threads began to wrap around Bai Yu’s foot as she crushed the statue underfoot.
This was the last task, and breaking this thing meant Zhao Mingyue’s mission was accomplished. For her, this task was way over the top, so naturally, the rewards would be substantial, marking her a significant boost.
As the statue shattered, a wave of malice erupted instantly.
The terrified head at the entrance suddenly widened its eyes and soared into the air. Its lips moved as if some voice echoed into the hearts of Bai Yu and Zhao Mingyue.
Facing Bai Yu, the head accelerated its speech, rattling off incomprehensible syllables that somehow resembled the voice of Bai Yu’s sister from Zhao Mingyue’s memories.
bl**d threads surged out of Bai Yu, writhing on her surface like deranged worms. As the speed of the speech quickened, the threads’ movements sped up as well.
Narrowing her eyes, Bai Yu kicked a shard of the statue, wrapping it in bl**d threads and hurling it at the floating head with all her might. Just as she anticipated, the shard soared through the air, and the bl**d threads quickly dissolved away. By the time they were gone, the shard was right in front of them.
With a muffled thud, the shard embedded itself in the head’s forehead, and the head ceased its captivating chatter.
Just as Bai Yu was about to deal with it, the head turned once more to face Zhao Mingyue.
“You’ve returned. You shouldn’t have come back. If she wakes up, we’ll all d*e.”
The head spoke in human language, and after uttering this nonsensical sentence, it seemed the power of the Evil God had receded; the head closed its eyes and fell to the ground.
Zhao Mingyue blinked, looking at Bai Yu in confusion. “What did it just say? Was it talking to me?”
“Yes.” Bai Yu stared thoughtfully at the head on the ground. For some reason, she felt that when the Evil God said ‘you’ve returned,’ it wasn’t referring to her and Zhao Mingyue but someone else, someone other than her.
And as for ‘let her wake up,’ maybe that was about the god inside Zhao Mingyue’s body.
If that were the case, things between those four gods would get interesting.
“Mission complete. We can go home now.”
Putting those thoughts aside, Bai Yu returned to the shadow of Zhao Mingyue.
She had learned what she wanted; the mission was successfully completed, and both she and Zhao Mingyue were still alive. Counting out the Dragon Lady and Lu Liangting, tonight’s mission could be deemed a grand success.
“Yay! We can finally go home! I don’t want to stay here a minute longer!”
Hearing Bai Yu, Zhao Mingyue perked up. She could finally leave this creepy place. To be honest, she now felt that the Sunshine Apartment and No. 13 Middle School were absolutely adorable, regardless of the task difficulties, scary scenarios, or the ghosts within.
One could say the Sunshine Apartment and No. 13 Middle School felt like places she could cautiously navigate alone and still make it out alive. There were enough clues in the task scenarios to sidestep a lot of trouble.
However, here? If she came alone, she’d definitely be a goner.
Just look at Lu Liangting; no matter how experienced he should have been, he still ended up knocked out and became the groom. If it weren’t for Bai Yu rushing in to save him again, he would have been eaten by the bride for sure.
Wait, why again?
Besides that, it seemed Lu Liangting had a reason for coming into this over-the-top task location…
“Forget it, homeward bound.”
·
Meanwhile, Lu Liangting was being shielded inside a house by several girls, right in the middle of the wedding banquet venue. Wax corpses littered the ground, hardly leaving any footing available. At the center of these wax corpses was a flower palanquin that had been blown apart.
While the base of the palanquin had been destroyed, a beautiful figure donned in bridal attire still stood on the remaining platform.
If viewed solely by her figure, the bride had a nice silhouette.
Before the bride’s red veil was blown away, it had somewhat piqued curiosity, making one want to uncover the beautiful face underneath.
However, after the explosion, the bride’s attire was torn to shreds, revealing the kind of skin that resembled a desiccated corpse. The red veil flew away, revealing that it was no beauty at all.
Lu Liangting stared at the highly decomposed bride, who sported four eyes, and felt a mix of emotions; her skin looked as if it had been soaked to regain moisture like a corpse, while the flesh had long since decayed and shriveled, leaving two pairs of bloodshot eyeballs protruding grotesquely.
It was worth mentioning that all four eyes looked like they had been added after d*ath, the original eye sockets now just vacant holes.
Her hair had also nearly fallen out completely, with only a few strands clinging to her scalp, contributing nothing to her beauty.
So this was what being a “groom” really looked like!
“Ah!” The bride’s corpse opened its mouth to roar, its voice as flat and dry as her body, sounding particularly terrifying in this environment.
As she exhaled a white mist, it instantly melted and corroded an incoming hatchet.
Seeing this, the few girls in front of Lu Liangting stood their ground, clutching their weapons tightly, anxious and pondering ways to escape while bringing along Lu Liangting, the newly minted groom.
The bride’s strength was overwhelmingly powerful. They had fought her before; while her body didn’t boast a high level of physical strength, she could fly, turning invisible, absorb bl**d, and enhance herself—her speed was frighteningly fast.
The key was the mist that spewed from her mouth; any living person who got touched by it would certainly d*e.
Compared to the previous wax corpses, this bride was a nightmare.
The group was at a total loss on how to tackle this new bride. In the past, they could handle it easily with one hand, but now, with their new identities, their strength hadn’t caught up.
“Groom, this thing can fly; we can’t escape, especially with you in tow,” Shen Shuyun whispered to Lu Liangting with a serious expression.
“There’s only one way to save us all,” she continued.
“What way?” Lu Liangting turned towards her.
“Call your benefactor back.”
“Bai Yu?”
“Yeah, her. Only she can take down the bride and save you from this predicament.” Shen Shuyun seemed to be joking, but she was dead serious.
She wasn’t wrong; the only one with a chance of defeating the bride was indeed Bai Yu.
But the problem was that once Bai Yu had saved Lu Liangting, she had just left. They had no way to contact her. Even if they managed to reach her, Bai Yu likely wouldn’t care.
Not even Shen Shuyun stood a chance.
The only glimmer of hope was Lu Liangting himself.
Doctors seemed to despise Lu Liangting, but Zhao Mingyue didn’t. Moreover, getting a helping hand would certainly put everyone there in her debt—better than dying here!
“Bring a doctor?” The Shadow and Black Fist both turned back, almost in perfect unison.
“Do you have another plan?” Shen Shuyun shrugged. “s*ck it up and owe her a favor, leave quickly, and don’t hinder her. It’s certainly better than dying here.”
As those words fell, everyone fell silent.
“Calling a doctor to save the day really is a ludicrous choice.”
Someone cursed under their breath, struggling to think of a better plan.
“Better to run; the slowest one gets it.”
Lu Liangting was utterly confused. Was she referring to Bai Yu or a real doctor?
If it was a real doctor, wasn’t calling one to save the day a normal move? But in this situation, wouldn’t the cops be more appropriate?
“Or maybe we should call the police; doctors are useless.”
After a moment’s thought, Lu Liangting replied.
·
·
Late arrival, sniff sniff.
Can I get some tickets on Valentine’s Day?
I’m doing a handstand for everyone!
Chapter 101: Lu Liangting: Turns Out, She’s Not in Love with Me
Lu Liangting’s statement shocked everyone. The girls in front turned back to glance at him, silent, the atmosphere tense as ever, every face now strained with complex expressions.
They really wanted to say, regardless of whether the doctor could save the day or not, it would be better not to say that when she finally showed up.
It was one thing to say it in front of them, but if the doctor actually came and overheard? That would turn what was already a dire situation into a complete disaster.
Lu Liangting sensed the atmosphere was off when Shen Shuyun grabbed his wrist.
“Lu Liangting, don’t say whatever comes to your mind. And for the love of God, don’t call the police; that’s useless. Do you think the police can handle this? Clearly not. Instead of letting this mess blow up and create chaos, we need another solution.”
“Be smart, message Zhao Mingyue. Even if we have to beg, we need to get her here.”
“This is our only chance.”
“If you can’t talk, hand me the phone and let me handle it.”
Lu Liangting hesitated slightly with the phone in his hand, but just then, the bride launched her second wave of attacks. Even the combined efforts of the beautiful girls could only barely contain her. To truly defeat her, someone would likely have to sacrifice their life.
At such a critical moment, his hesitation was understandable.
He knew Shen Shuyun wasn’t just asking Zhao Mingyue to come over. The real goal was to bring Bai Yu. But therein lay the problem: were Zhao Mingyue and Bai Yu actually in cahoots?
He remembered Zhao Mingyue had saved Shen Shuyun while wearing a mask, and while her voice and aura didn’t lie, he figured the ghost possessing Zhao Mingyue was indeed that Bai Yu.
But what if they weren’t in it together?
What if Bai Yu was just helping Zhao Mingyue out of convenience, using her body as a vessel?
If that were the case, summoning Zhao Mingyue could put her in danger.
“Quick! We don’t have much time left.”
“Okay.”
Stepping back, Lu Liangting summoned two ghosts to lend a hand. He had three ghosts total, but the last one, the Red-clothed Evil Ghost, didn’t really listen to his commands—it was all based on its mood.
Opening Zhao Mingyue’s Magical Girl profile, Lu Liangting decided to send a message to confirm her safety first. He feared that making a call would just complicate things.
After sending the message, it wasn’t long before Zhao Mingyue replied that she was safe.
With that reassurance, Lu Liangting pulled up the call page; he needed to clarify things. If they weren’t together, he wouldn’t have her come over.
A beautiful piano melody filled the air, and soon the call connected.
“Lu Liangting?”
“Mingyue, it’s me. I have something to ask you. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to; it’s not a big deal.”
“Sure, go ahead.”
“It’s just, the one who saved me earlier—was it Bai Yu?”
·
·
On one side of Ping Shan Village, Zhao Mingyue held her phone, bewildered by Lu Liangting’s words. She glanced at Bai Yu quizzically, silently asking how to respond.
She hadn’t expected to reveal so easily. She thought, at most, she might have to disclose her identity, but she figured Bai Yu, residing within her body, would be safe—Lu Liangting couldn’t see her soul.
It turned out that this guy was far too observant about Bai Yu!
Bai Yu spoke in Zhao Mingyue’s mind, “Don’t say anything yet; inquire about his intentions.”
“Got it.” Zhao Mingyue nodded and added, “So, what’s up? Why the sudden call?”
“I’m in a bit of a situation. There’s a powerful ghost blocking our way, so I was wondering if you could ask Bai Yu to come help. Don’t worry; I won’t let her come without reason.”
After Lu Liangting finished speaking, Zhao Mingyue winked at Bai Yu.
“Tell him you know me.”
“Do I really have to?”
“Yep, then have the person next to Lu Liangting take the call.”
With Bai Yu’s reply, Zhao Mingyue halted her steps and brought her phone closer. “Um, Bai Yu is definitely with me. I asked for her input. She wants you to pass the phone to the person next to you.”
“Hello, I’m Shen Shuyun.” The instant Zhao Mingyue finished speaking, a sweet female voice came through the phone; amidst the background noise, Zhao Mingyue could vaguely hear a chilling scream.
“Bai Yu, we’re in trouble; we’re facing a very strong ghost.”
“If those previous ghostly wax corpses were rated S-Class, this one’s at least SS-Class.”
“Please help us; we all owe you a favor.”
“Figure it out yourself.” Bai Yu’s tone was indifferent.
The other end fell silent for two seconds. “Okay, how about an additional incentive? Something to counteract the ghost’s influence on people.”
“Location?”
“Still the same courtyard.” Shen Shuyun breathed a sigh of relief.
“Two minutes.”
After hanging up, Bai Yu looked at Zhao Mingyue. “We’re heading back.”
“Should I let you take over?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, well, I’m not sure if this counts as a huge contribution or me just being a useless slacker.” Zhao Mingyue sighed, stepping forward to embrace Bai Yu’s form, smiling brightly.
·
·
“Alright, let’s wait two minutes.” Shen Shuyun returned the phone to Lu Liangting and explained, noting the confused look on his face. “Zhao Mingyue holds a place in Bai Yu’s heart that’s more important than you realize. Do you believe it? If we all bite the dust, a debt owed to Bai Yu might not pull her here.”
“Because it’s too dangerous, her top priority is Zhao Mingyue’s safety, not ours.”
“Know why we suddenly changed our tune? It’s because of what I just mentioned.”
“Ghosts and humans are entirely different. You know if someone hangs around too long with a ghost, it won’t end well for them. Minor consequences like bad luck and illness could lead to much worse fates—like outright d*ath.”
“We haven’t had much in the way of bad luck yet, but have you felt your temperature dropping the more you interact with these ghosts? It’s like you’re slowly getting poisoned.”
“The item I have can help mitigate that influence to some extent.”
As soon as Shen Shuyun finished speaking, a girl in the front cursed.
“Quit yapping and stop being useless! I swear I’ll twist your head off first!”
“Alright, alright, coming! What are you all worked up about? I’m trying to find you a savior here.” Shen Shuyun smiled and patted Lu Liangting’s shoulder as she headed outside, spinning two small knives in her hand.
Within the room, Lu Liangting glanced around, grabbing a nearby stool to take with him.
He might not have a way to deal with the bride, but perhaps those little wax corpses following him could manage.
“Old Yang, can you hear me?”
“Come save us!”
“There’s a real big problem this time!”
Calling out the name of the Evil Ghost in his mind, Lu Liangting cautiously stepped out, observing the beautiful girls still entangled with the bride in the courtyard, his heart pounding.
These girls were all good people; without their help, even if the Evil God were slain, he wouldn’t get out alive. It was thanks to them that he hadn’t been devoured by the bride yet.
In two minutes, Bai Yu would arrive.
In this two minutes, it all depended on him and Old Yang!
With the stool in hand, Lu Liangting slammed it down against a wax corpse, knocking it down before kicking another one away.
Just as he stepped out, the bride, who had been engaged in battle, suddenly turned, four bloodshot eyes fixating on him, her rotting mouth opening in a chilling roar as a cloud of thick white mist surged directly towards him.
“Watch out!”
A door panel flew in, scattering the white mist as Black Fist, her petite frame somewhat fragile, stood in front of Lu Liangting.
“Get back! You shouldn’t be here!”
Black Fist was irritated by Lu Liangting’s clasping hampers; she would have loved to pull his head off, but he was the male protagonist, so she had to save him.
Besides, because he was the male protagonist, his fate concerned their mission—he couldn’t d*e. Otherwise, who would go looking for a doctor to help? They’d have bolted long ago.
There were three main reasons for being here: one was the mission, the second was the Evil God’s power, and the last was for Lu Liangting’s favor.
For now, the mission could wait. After all, once this was over, she could squeeze in some time to level up a bit more, while the Evil God threat was all but removed with that statue taken down by the doctor.
With two goals out of three left and the last being Lu Liangting, they certainly couldn’t abandon him.
Black Fist nearly teleported to the bride’s side, her twin dagger fists radiating black energy as she threw a punch towards the bride’s throat. She retracted her hand only to follow up with a kick, which was caught by the bride’s emaciated hand, resembling a stick.
Black threads wound around her body, and as they wrapped her tight, she felt bl**d rapidly seeping out while her temperature skyrocketed.
Aside from possessing regeneration powers, being able to fly, and long-range attacks, that was the trickiest part about the bride.
Anyone who got too close would have their bl**d controlled.
“Ha!” A loud shout rang out as another girl swept in with a low kick, knocking the bride down. The Shadow appeared, simultaneously piercing her two daggers into the bride’s temples.
The trio of strikes flowed smoothly, but unfortunately, they didn’t pack much of a punch; vast strands of black threads entangled them as the bride shot up into the air with surprising distance.
“Roar!” White mist sprayed out; the Shadow dodged, only to be grazed slightly, leaving a small chunk of her arm corroded.
Just as the bride prepared to attack again, Lu Liangting dashed out from behind the girls, swinging his stool at her.
And just like that, he drew her attention; the white mist that had been aimed at Shen Shuyun now redirected toward her.
Having anticipated this, Lu Liangting took a few quick steps back, dodging the attack.
He had a better physique than Zhao Mingyue; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been chosen to be the groom.
His quick dodges caught Shen Shuyun and the others by surprise.
The male protagonist managed to be more useful than they thought; in a crucial moment, he could still buy them some time.
Unfortunately, Lu Liangting was still lacking in experience, and coupled with the limitations of the environment, as he sidestepped the black threads tightening around him, his foot slipped onto the hand of a wax corpse.
“Aah!”
He lost his balance and started to fall while the black threads closed in.
At that moment.
BAM!
The double doors of the courtyard were violently kicked open, and two bl**d thread knives flew through the air.

There’s still more to come tonight.
Please leave some tickets; I’m begging!
