Chapter 110: Lu Liangting: Bai Yu, Give Me Back My SSR!
For Lu Liangting, pulling a power like the Yin-Yang Eye in the lottery was the best outcome. Once you snagged that, your strength basically leveled up, and hey, it’s the most reliable since it’s really happening to you!
The second best was to pull an ordinary ghost, but only if that ghost would actually listen to him; otherwise, it could become a real headache.
Ordinary ghosts would help you out if you fulfilled their wishes. Complete a ghostly “to-do” list and voilà, you’ve got a fighting buddy!
But the absolute worst? Pulling the Red-clothed Evil Ghost.
The uncertainties were off the charts. You had to admit, Red-clothed Evil Ghosts had the strongest skills and provided the biggest confidence boost—like, WAY stronger than your average ghost.
Sure, they’re strong, but their grudge is like tenfold compared to ordinary ghosts, which makes communication nearly impossible. These spirits operate on their own whims; whether they help or not? Completely based on their own thoughts!
And worse yet, they might just decide to off you instead.
The Red-clothed Female Evil Ghost is the biggest pain of all. Get too distant and she’ll see you as a foe, get too close and she might just decide she wants to be “with you forever”—which means you’re toast.
You’ve got to find a delicate balance, which is nearly impossible.
How could a living person ever guess what a ghost is thinking?
That’s why, if you’re not looking for safety, pulling a Red-clothed Evil Ghost is still the most worthwhile option. The minuscule chances of winning one reflects this; the more powerful the ghost, the less likely you are to win it.
Clutching his bloodstained phone, Lu Liangting felt anxious inside.
If this ghost was willing to help him, he’d be set.
If not? Well, things would get messy real quick.
Turning to Zhao Mingyue, he said solemnly, “I don’t know what this ghost’s personality is like, but she’s our chance.”
“I’ll release her, so be careful.”
“Uh…” Zhao Mingyue nervously rubbed the head of her Rabbit Plush Toy, her smile frozen. She could already feel Bai Yu’s murderous intent; if things went according to plan, something unexpected would definitely happen.
Oh, Lu Liangting, your luck only comes around once in a blue moon, and you pull a Red-clothed Evil Ghost… here of all places?
For a moment, Zhao Mingyue couldn’t tell if Lu Liangting was lucky or unlucky.
Maybe it was a mix of both, but leaning more towards bad luck.
You couldn’t blame her for following him; she hadn’t thought this through. Even if she hadn’t followed, Lu Liangting’s ghost would still be “devoured,” just separated by a hallway.
Seeing Zhao Mingyue take two steps back, Lu Liangting held his breath, focusing hard. He slid the black phone into his pocket, gripping the other ghost-hunting tools within.
As he flipped the phone open, he hadn’t even pressed the power button when the screen lit up by itself.
Text messages flooded in, incessantly dinging like a deranged doorbell.
“Dearest, you promised to stay with me forever.”
“Why did you leave me? Was I not good enough? Was I not gentle enough?”
“Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me…”
“You still love me, right? Right? Right??”
“You must still love me; otherwise, why would you be eating my flesh?”
“Darling, is my body tasty?”
“Turn back and look at me! Why won’t you look at me?!”
“…”
The messages piled on, filled with twisted affection. Lu Liangting could almost see a pale blue face in the shadows, the visage of a woman.
After receiving dozens of texts, the phone suddenly fell silent, as if someone had hit the mute button. It was shockingly abrupt.
Half a minute ticked by, as if stretched into an eternity, and then the phone rang again.
“Dearest, why won’t you answer me?”
“Do you still love me? Turn around—I’m right behind you.”
As he read the last two messages, Lu Liangting felt a drop in temperature within the hallway. Something terrifying had appeared, and it was right behind him, no more than a meter away.
He didn’t even need to turn around; just a slight bow of his head allowed him to glimpse the flowing black grudge extending behind him.
His heart raced as he subconsciously slowed his breathing. Every hair on his body stood on end, as he felt an overwhelming sense of danger.
Red-clothed Evil Ghosts really do double the pressure of an ordinary ghost.
He faced two choices: look back and walk away or turn around to confront the ghost.
One choice could doom him; even if he didn’t d*e, using that ghost’s power would be nearly impossible. As soon as he freed the spirit, her first target would be him.
Lu Liangting battled within himself, palms sweaty, brain racing to extract crucial information about that evil spirit.
Across from him, Zhao Mingyue blinked.
From her perspective, all she could see was Lu Liangting’s tense, rigid muscles and grave expression, while something loomed behind him, obscured from her view.
For Lu Liangting, this wasn’t an everyday occurrence, but it happened often enough that he’d gotten used to the feeling.
That was something Zhao Mingyue couldn’t comprehend. With many lottery chances ahead of her, be it an evil ghost or even a Red-clothed Evil Ghost, it was impossible for her to have a ghost stand behind her, presenting a choice: turn around or d*e.
Time dragged on, another half-minute slipped by.
For Lu Liangting, that half-minute felt longer than an hour.
He made his decision and suddenly whirled around, taking a few steps back.
There stood the woman in the red coat, mid-thirties, a pallid face that suggested she was quite the looker in her living days.
bl**d trickled from her eyes, cascading down her cheeks, hitting the floor and evaporating into black smoke.
Lu Liangting’s heart raced; he locked eyes with the ghost, not saying a word.
Yet as he faced her, he felt a slight relief. He knew he had gambled correctly.
The fact that the ghost didn’t immediately k*ll him when he turned around was a good sign. Had he made the wrong choice, she would have lunged at him already.
Looks like Lady Luck was still on his side.
With this Red-clothed spirit at his side, today’s task would be a breeze, not to mention future missions. Including this ghost, he now had a total of two Red-clothed Evil Ghosts. As long as he steered clear of Eternity Village, he could work wherever he liked.
Just as he felt a wave of relief, he noticed the ghost suddenly shift her gaze, locking onto Zhao Mingyue.
“Oh no!” Lu Liangting cursed under his breath, but it was too late.
The moment she spotted Zhao Mingyue, her expression morphed from gentle to menacing. She lunged forward, but a small fist, wrapped in thick chains, swung in first, aiming directly for the ghost’s face.
Lu Liangting’s eyes widened. He barely had time to shout as Bai Yu was already on the scene.
BANG!
The black mist exploded; the ghost shot back against the wall, her face caving in, embedded into the material like a framed picture.
Bai Yu stood where the ghost had just been, glancing at Lu Liangting. One look and it felt like she’d said everything without uttering a word.
She then eyed Zhao Mingyue, her fierce expression suggesting she had m*rder on her mind!
Why else would she wear such a fierce expression if not for a violent greeting?
Bai Yu didn’t even pull out her kn*fe; she wrapped her slender arm in chains, making her delicate figure look a tad intimidating.
Her outfit for the day? A high ponytail and a slick leather jacket.
The ghost shrieked and stood up, the wall behind her intact. Her black mist erupted, and her black hair whipped out like serpents.
Bai Yu remained silent, stepping forward, her body blurred for a moment before she appeared right before the ghost.
An uppercut hit the ghost’s chin, sending her soaring. Mid-air, Bai Yu twisted, delivering a punch to the ghost’s abdomen, the bl**d threads devouring her grudge.
Just as the ghost started to rise again, another punch sent her flying back into the wall.
Now the ghost sought to escape through the wall, but her escape path had already been sealed by bl**d threads.
She crashed painfully into the wall, her head lifted just in time for Bai Yu’s chain-wrapped arm to swing in from the left, striking her neck and knocking her off balance.
Bai Yu knee-slapped the ghost, looking like it was the ghost’s head that was purposely crashing into her knee.
With a heavy thud, the black mist exploded, devoured by bl**d threads sealing the hallway.
After being pushed back by the knee, Bai Yu thrust her fists skyward.
The ghost tilted her head back, and the haunting sight of two tiny fists rapidly enlarging in her vision foretold of the crushing blow soon to land.
The ghost was smashed into the ground, barely a chance to retaliate; Bai Yu didn’t give her a moment to breathe.
Half-crouching in front of the already fallen specter, Bai Yu raised her right fist yet again, aiming for the head.
“Wait!”
At last, Lu Liangting couldn’t hold back any longer; he raised his hand as if to step forward.
Bai Yu, emotionless, shot a glance at Lu Liangting, their eyes locking, and then… WHAM! The ghost’s head smashed into the bl**d threads on the ground, sinking in as if it had been tossed into a meat grinder.
The ghost’s shrieking turned muted; from Lu Liangting’s perspective, Bai Yu’s strike had even straightened the ghost’s legs.
“…”
Lu Liangting was at a loss for words, internally screaming the name of the other Red-clothed Evil Ghost. Just earlier, there had been a response; now, it felt like he was throwing stones into an abyss.
“Hey, Old Yang, come out and help!”
“Block her! I’ll talk her down!”
“You wanted an evil ghost for a snack, right? I’ll help you find one! Tomorrow night, I’ll help you!”
“Old Yang, give me a sign!”
No matter how he pleaded, the Red-clothed Evil Ghost that resided in his shadow ignored him completely, remaining disturbingly quiet, as if it didn’t exist at all.
“Bai Yu, hold on!” Lu Liangting didn’t have time to think; if she wouldn’t lend a hand, it wasn’t his problem. At this rate, the newly summoned ghost would get flattened.
Honestly, every time he saw Bai Yu’s brutal approach, it left him stunned.
From his experience, ghosts didn’t fight like this.
Ghosts rely on grudges, on how many of their kind they’ve devoured to enhance their powers.
Ghosts have countless methods of killing—from physical to psychological.
But when ghosts fight ghosts, it’s more about the two entangling their hair, with the stronger one crushing the weaker one.
In contrast, Bai Yu? She didn’t bother with hair-fighting; if she considered you worth her time, she’d take up a kn*fe. A few slices, and what’s your strength matter? If she looked down on you? A barrage of punches to leave you dazed.
Bai Yu stood, declaring, “Get lost.”
“Bai Yu, we can talk this out! Let her go first!”
Lu Liangting was close to tears, freshly summoned Red-clothed Evil Ghost and not even a word had passed between them!
But what could he do? It was also his fault for being careless, knowing that another woman could provoke the ghost, yet letting Zhao Mingyue catch her eye.
Now Bai Yu was reacting in emergency mode.
“No way, she wants to k*ll!” Bai Yu said, utterly unfazed, “That was premeditated.”
She lifted her foot and stomped down hard on the struggling ghost’s chest, nearly burying half of the ghost into the bl**d threads, and more wrapped around the ghost, slowly enveloping her body completely.
Lu Liangting noticed that the bloodstains on his flip phone were fading quickly.
This was his first time encountering such a situation, but it wasn’t hard to guess: once the stains completely disappeared, the ghost would be utterly “devoured.”
Zhao Mingyue approached with a complex expression. She considered stepping in to reason with Bai Yu but quickly thought better of it; this wasn’t a time when Bai Yu would listen.
Who was to blame? The ghost chose a fight with the wrong person, giving Bai Yu the perfect excuse.
Seriously, why pick a fight with Lu Liangting? Why couldn’t you just let him be?
And now you had to give Bai Yu a glare and try to k*ll her?
Seeing you was already a d*ath wish.
“Uh, cough, this ghost’s got a real appetite for killing. Let Bai Yu teach her a lesson, shall we?”
“In fact, you’re not at a total loss; that phone you’ve got is still useful. It can harbor a ghost. Next time you meet a kind-hearted ghost, you can let her stay in there.”
“I have experience in this!”
The phrase “I have experience” explained everything.
Lu Liangting turned to see the bitterness mirrored in Zhao Mingyue’s eyes; of course, hers wasn’t too intense since she didn’t need a second ghost, and she certainly didn’t pull a Red-clothed SSR.
Suddenly, Zhao Mingyue pondered, if Red-clothed ghosts were SSRs, then what class did Bai Yu belong to?
Now it was all the more apparent. She must’ve hit the jackpot to summon Bai Yu right into her home!
