Chapter 122: How to Break the BOSS Blockade?
The corridor was eerily quiet, so much so that even the ghostly entities stood frozen in place, afraid to make a move. They felt the primal fear radiating from Bai Yu.
With a casual toss, she slung the Red-clothed Evil Ghost against the wall, where it became ensnared by a massive expanse of bl**d threads, which greedily absorbed it. The strands quickly spread and formed a cocoon around the ghost.
As for her preferred snacks, Bai Yu definitely had a taste for the Red-clothed Evil Ghost. Regular little ghosts? No thanks! They tasted terrible and were packed with impurities that made her stomach churn. The most she’d do with those was siphon off some resentment to boost her power.
She didn’t possess much resentment herself; most of her substance was made up of bl**d threads. Her stockpile was ten times more than that of the Red-clothed ghost, but in terms of resentment, she was far behind. Generally, higher-level evil ghosts had stronger resentment, which was the source of their power.
If only she could have as much resentment as she had bl**d threads, she could easily crank up her strength several notches.
But that was easier said than done. She realized that consuming Red-clothed ghosts only increased her quantity and quality of bl**d threads, with very little increase in resentment.
There were still two Red-clothed ghosts left, one of which was none other than Lu Liangting’s sworn enemy.
Clang!
The blade sang as it sliced through the air, and Bai Yu dispatched one evil ghost with just two strokes. These creatures were helpless against her advance; the moment they charged, they were reduced to mere shadow.
With the sheer number of dead ghosts piling up, a cloud of black mist began to spread through the corridor.
Now, this was no trickery; it was pure resentment, so abundant that Bai Yu found herself struggling to siphon it all.
“We need to back off and avoid getting contaminated by this resentment, or we’ll have serious problems,” Shen Shuyun said as she yanked at Lu Liangting’s collar.
“I know you want vengeance, but aren’t we already in the middle of it? Just sit tight; the ghost doctor will help you take down that evil ghost you’re dying to k*ll,” she reassured.
The group retreated quietly, keeping back to observe the chaos.
Honestly, they had never seen so many evil ghosts in their lives. Forget dozens; just having five of this caliber in one mission location was an impressive haul.
Despite Bai Yu’s efficiency—taking out two with hardly any effort—it was clear that if they ran in there, they’d be torn to shreds in seconds.
These weren’t just any little ghosts; they were genuine evil spirits, second only to the Red-clothed ones.
Ghosts emanating black mist made killing feel all too easy; such entities were typically behind the deadly hauntings they encountered.
“She’s grown much stronger,” Lu Liangting finally spoke after a lengthy silence.
“Cough, indeed,” Zhao Mingyue coughed, wanting to say that part of Bai Yu’s growth was thanks to him.
Lu Liangting didn’t respond. All he could see was the back of Bai Yu.
If he were to be honest, he had no idea what he was thinking anymore—too many thoughts clouded his mind. Questions like why he felt so weak, or how he ought to thank Bai Yu. He hadn’t said much before, but should he say something this time?
Without Bai Yu, he’d be dead. Shen Shuyun would be dead. Zhizi would be dead.
Zhao Mingyue claimed they’d need four Red-clothed ghosts, which to him felt far too few.
Far from enough!
But what good was saying it? Forget four; he couldn’t even conjure a single ghost to fight!
He technically had a Red-clothed ghost, but he couldn’t give it to Bai Yu. This ghost owed him a favor, making it his partner.
Meanwhile, Zhizi was also fixated on Bai Yu.
From Bai Yu’s battle style, Zhizi didn’t even need Shen Shuyun to say anything; she automatically knew who Bai Yu was. Looking back and forth between Bai Yu and her own master stirred an unsettling feeling in her.
Only Zhao Mingyue seemed to be the odd one out, feeling pretty good about the situation. These guys really were generous, sending so many Red-clothed ghosts for Bai Yu to feast on. They never stood a chance against her anyway; now, with this many ghosts going in, they had no hope.
In her line of sight, Bai Yu took down the last four evil ghosts with pure ease. The previously crowded corridor suddenly felt spacious as a few straggling ones fled through the walls. Only three Red-clothed ghosts remained.
The Red Suit Evil Ghost bore a fierce expression, oozing thick black and red mist toward Bai Yu.
Also joining the fray were the black-haired, clawed fingers of the female ghost.
After taking such a heavy toll in close combat, they were clearly done risking another encounter up close.
Faced with the combined attacks of three Red-clothed ghosts, Bai Yu remained expressionless. She stabbed her blade into the wall, and at that moment, bl**d threads surged from the ceiling and walls, resembling thick red serpents that sealed off that section of the corridor.
bl**d threads intertwined with the assaults from the three Red-clothed ghosts, creating chaos; it was evident that for a moment, Bai Yu’s threads were slightly at a disadvantage.
But her solution was quite straightforward: she detonated the bl**d threads.
After tangling with the three Red-clothed ghosts, the robust threads sprouted countless sharp spikes that grew denser. The more they grew, the thinner they became, joining together to form a giant net of bl**d threads in about a second.
The net shrank around them, wrapping up into a ball, forcing the Red-clothed ghosts to keep emitting attacks instead of retracting. Once it reached a critical point, it suddenly exploded, scattering countless bl**d threads everywhere.
Most of it was recycled, while some dissipated completely while restraining the enemy’s attacks.
It was a classic case of “wounding eight hundred of the enemy while losing one thousand” for herself.
In a swirling mess, the three evil ghosts realized that Bai Yu had bizarrely vanished. They snapped back to reality, only to find her at their backs.
With two swift cuts from her kn*fe, the Masked Person’s heads rolled away—no hesitation, no wasted breath. Bai Yu didn’t engage in idle banter with her adversaries.
A swift kick sent the stunned Red Suit Evil Ghost flying. As it tumbled, Bai Yu’s phantom-like figure reappeared exactly where it landed.
Without its master’s control, this Red-clothed ghost was not in the right state of mind.
Bai Yu slashed down, cutting off both arms. As the ghost collided with her, her palm formed a kn*fe that plunged into its heart. Her right hand came down in a diagonal arc, smashing into the ghost’s chin, causing it to rise into the air.
Meanwhile, bl**d thread spikes were already waiting for him.
The spike pierced through the ghost’s skull and out the front, beginning to spread and entrap the ghost’s weakened body, gradually consuming it.
The whole sequence flowed like water, from Bai Yu’s kick sending the ghost flying to the consumption of its essence; it took no more than two seconds. A perfect example of instant annihilation.
It wasn’t that this Red-clothed ghost was weak. Out of the six, it was the strongest—perhaps even stronger than Little Ghost Xiao Lian from the Sunshine Apartment.
But after losing its master to Bai Yu, it was momentarily bewildered.
That brief confusion cost it its life.
With the Masked Person taken out, the remaining two Red-clothed ghosts clearly had no intention to stick around and confront Bai Yu head-on. Even little ghosts would flee, so of course, they would too.
Bai Yu watched the two Red-clothed ghosts escape without pursuing them. There was no need; four Red-clothed ghosts would still provide her with a decent boost.
While the impact from these four ghosts wasn’t as grand as her last encounter, their quality definitely exceeded it.
The stronger she became, the less noticeable her improvements, but that didn’t mean there were none.
“Wow, Yu-meimei, you were super cool just now!” Zhao Mingyue exclaimed, rushing over for a huge hug, lifting Bai Yu slightly off the ground. Caught off guard by her own height, Bai Yu found herself in a cozy “face wash” situation.
Zhao Mingyue had outgrown her peers, and although this wasn’t the first time Bai Yu experienced such incredible softness and elasticity, each time was a new marvel.
This scale was just too “impressive”…
No wonder it could affect combat!
Thankfully, it didn’t.
Lu Liangting and the rest had intended to say something, but upon witnessing this, they wisely chose silence instead.
Shen Shuyun and Zhizi were left stunned by the boldness of their female protagonist. Did she really just run in for a hug right after that massacre?
In contrast, Lu Liangting’s thoughts were focused on why Zhao Mingyue and Bai Yu seemed to share such a close bond.
They appeared almost like sisters, and their camaraderie was enviable.
Bai Yu’s occasional actions and reactions often made him question if this ghost girl was truly gentle and kind, or if it was merely his imagination.
But witnessing this moment solidified his thoughts.
If Bai Yu were not so gentle, would she really get along with Zhao Mingyue in such harmony?
At this moment, Zhao Mingyue was oblivious to these thoughts, feeling nothing but pride.
Yes, pride.
Did you see that? This girl who just decimated the Ghost Domain is one of ours, a pet ghost!
It was something akin to that feeling.
“There are more upstairs,” Bai Yu finally said, still expressionless.
“Upstairs?”
“Yes.”
Bai Yu disregarded Lu Liangting’s musings and led Zhao Mingyue deeper down the other corridor, while behind them, Zhao Mingyue waved her hand.
“Let’s go check it out; there may still be ghosts up there.”
At the stairwell, Bai Yu swiftly ascended and kicked the top door open.
The night wind brushed against her cheek, and the rooftop was vast and dark.
Bai Yu stepped out, spotting three Masked Persons standing on the roof.
If her intuition was correct, they were a team, with one aiming to take down Lu Liangting. After eliminating him, the plan was to team up against her and Zhao Mingyue. The evil spirits and Red-clothed ghosts on the third floor were most likely set up for her, not Lu Liangting.
However, they clearly underestimated her power, expecting her to be weaker than she truly was.
This put them in an awkward situation.
They hadn’t gone to assist when their comrade sent a distress signal, and by then, it was already too late. Not only did they not come to aid, but the two unfortunate souls downstairs wouldn’t manage to escape either.
With that many ghosts put to d*ath below, walking out now equated to a d*ath sentence.
Trying to escape was futile; their exit was completely blocked.
The stairs beside Lu Liangting were clearly a no-go. Their only option was directly confronting Bai Yu.
Blocking the stairwell, Bai Yu held her long kn*fe with the blade angled toward the ground.
As she took a step forward, the three Masked Persons recoiled several steps, each visibly tense as if facing a formidable foe.
“Oh dear, I had a feeling it would come to this,” said the Rabbit-Masked Girl, swinging her slender legs as she nonchalantly toyed with a bloody Rubik’s Cube, not even casting a glance at Bai Yu.
“Number Six, do you believe me now? I told you all, this ghost is no joke; her power exceeds your expectations. We should’ve investigated thoroughly before acting.”
“Tsk tsk tsk, wouldn’t believe me,” she chastised.
“Honestly, how can anyone get a mission done while stuck with you bugs?”
Her voice was soft and pleasant, but her tone dripped with sarcasm and insults.
“Shut up!” barked the middle-aged man with the ice hockey mask, fuming.
This operation was under his command, and he’d assured his boss that it was foolproof—guaranteed to bring that evil ghost right to his doorstep.
But reality had him trapped up on the rooftop, unable to flee.
“Pathetic fury,” chuckled the Rabbit Girl. She leaned against the rail, casually glancing at Bai Yu. “Hey, that kn*fe-wielding ghost, do me a favor, will you?”
“I really hate that guy with the white mask; can you k*ll him for me?”
“As long as you help me, I’ll reward you with something every man—no, every woman—will find irresistible, giggle giggle.”
Her laughter echoed like silver bells as the Rabbit Girl straightened up again.
Bai Yu frowned. The danger she sensed coming from this Rabbit Girl was far greater than from the three in front of her.
To speak so casually like that meant either she was out of her mind or had considerable confidence.
Just as she suspected, the Rabbit Girl hummed a tune while twisting the Rubik’s Cube, and in a bizarre turn of events, the evil ghost beside the man named Number Six suddenly had its left arm snap and twist hideously towards the sky.
With another twist of the cube, the girl ghost shrieked, her right leg warped painfully in a 360-degree spin.
One more gentle flick, and the other arm of the girl was torn off by an unseen force, plummeting to the ground and vanishing into black smoke.
Number Six panicked; this evil ghost was his only means of survival, yet he had no idea who his enemy was. Bai Yu hadn’t even lifted a finger.
The scene spiraled into chaos, and while Bai Yu remained calm, she positioned herself to shield Zhao Mingyue.
As she witnessed Number Six’s Red-clothed ghost getting disassembled like a twisted piece of art, her brow knitted tighter.
This power was definitely not of a ghost.
A Red-clothed ghost had vanished in such an eerie manner, while another suffered the same fate, turning to black smoke, leaving Bai Yu with no chance to consume its essence.
In that moment, there was only one person left standing, wearing a masquerade mask, accompanied by a little ghost with a big head.
This little ghost was the weakest, only barely reaching the level of a Red-clothed ghost.
And that Masked Woman? Zhao Mingyue recognized her immediately.
“Wang Xinxin!?”
