### Chapter 128: The Fate of Killing Cats in Front of Cat Slave Bai Yu
As long as she arrives at the task location before 8 o’clock, Zhao Mingyue isn’t in any rush. With no plans for the afternoon, she wants to take Bai Yu to the nearby park for a little sit-down. Although the sun is blazing, as long as she has an umbrella, it should be fine, right?
Back at home, Zhao Mingyue digs around and pulls out the clothes she washed last time.
She lets Bai Yu pick one from the selection. After scanning through the options, Bai Yu finds herself in a bit of a bind. To her, all the clothes look almost the same—adorable styles, but none of them suit her.
These outfits would work better for a fifteen or sixteen-year-old little girl.
For her, they just don’t quite fit.
The key is, most of these are dresses, and everyone knows dresses are terribly impractical for combat.
The ones that aren’t dresses just look hideous, like those ripped jeans.
She can’t wrap her head around it—how are people’s lives getting better, yet their pants are getting worse?
“Have you made your choice?” Zhao Mingyue stands nearby, eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Every outfit has been handpicked by her, and each one would make Bai Yu’s cuteness levels soar.
Let’s put it this way: you can doubt her skills and her morals, but you cannot doubt her taste!
“Not yet; can you pick one for me?” After a while, Bai Yu finally speaks up.
Wearing clothes is necessary. By the looks of Zhao Mingyue, she’s adamant about taking her out.
While the sunlight isn’t lethal to her, it definitely has some effect, and intense rays could sap her grudge power. Wearing clothes to block out the sun, combined with an umbrella? That’s already quite acceptable.
“Sure thing!” No sooner had Zhao Mingyue agreed than she swiftly grabbed a dress from the bed without hesitation, clearly “waiting for this moment” for a while.
This dress is primarily black with some white accents. It’s simple and unassuming at first glance, but upon closer look, it becomes more appealing. After selecting the dress, she also pulls out a pair of black stockings that she bought at the same time.
Bai Yu’s body type leans more towards the loli side—yes, loli in black stockings.
Seeing Zhao Mingyue pull out the stockings, Bai Yu naturally wants to reject it, but Zhao Mingyue presents her with an unrefusable argument.
“You can only cover your calves with stockings. Otherwise, you’ll have to put on makeup, and that’s too much hassle.”
Bai Yu usually doesn’t care too much about her image; she didn’t complain last time when she wore the white stockings, and this time she just lets Zhao Mingyue do her magic.
With her long hair split into twin ponytails flowing behind her, held up by two large red bows, she looks like the classic loli hairstyle.
Zhao Mingyue’s smile grows increasingly strange as she attempts to pull out her phone for a selfie, only to have Bai Yu push her hand back down.
“This really suits you perfectly!”
Circled around Bai Yu, Zhao Mingyue notes how this time, even sunglasses are unnecessary. Bai Yu can now retract her pure black eyes under control, though, unfortunately, they still have a dark red tint instead of black. The whites of her eyes are normal again, which might as well be considered wearing colored contacts—who would question it?
“I’ve realized that just being cute isn’t enough. You need a kind of chilly cuteness for it to really work for you!”
The black classical dress, paired with her black hair and red eyes giving off a cold demeanor, matched perfectly with her occasionally aloof expressions that resemble a little predator.
—
Downstairs, Zhao Mingyue holds an umbrella as she stands by Bai Yu, like a butler welcoming the young lady home from school.
“Let me introduce you—this is my cousin, Zhao Ruoxi.” Zhao Mingyue beams as Lu Liangting, leaning against a luxury car, takes a look at Bai Yu’s outfit and is momentarily taken aback.
Wait a second—cousin? Isn’t that Bai Yu?!
Without lingering, Lu Liangting hops into the driver’s seat.
Sure, Bai Yu is cute, but at this moment, he’s struck by a different thought.
Why on earth is a red-clothed evil ghost of her caliber so easily manipulated by Zhao Mingyue?
Her usual style doesn’t seem to be that of a girl who loves adorable outfits, so this entire ensemble must have been orchestrated by Zhao Mingyue.
‘Their relationship is really something, huh.’
After a moment, the car rolls out, and Lu Liangting can’t help but sigh inwardly.
Look how people interact with evil ghosts. Then look at his situation.
The difference is glaring.
But he can’t completely blame himself; after all, ghosts are not all alike. Maybe Bai Yu just pampers Zhao Mingyue, while he knows if he tried to pull something similar, he’d end up with a kn*fe in his gut.
Speaking of Bai Yu, if he were to mention he got a new fancy suit for Old Yang and invited him out, Old Yang would probably ignore him completely.
From the car’s rearview mirror, he catches sight of Zhao Mingyue leaning into Bai Yu, whispering sweet nothings. Though Bai Yu’s face remains expressionless, she doesn’t resist but listens intently, occasionally nodding and whispering back.
He even notices Zhao Mingyue taking a Yin-Yang Fish Amulet from Bai Yu and putting it around her neck.
Bai Yu does the same, taking the other half and putting it on Zhao Mingyue.
These two Yin-Yang fish are clearly a pair.
He grits his teeth and sighs inwardly.
Truly no point in being jealous.
What kind of luck would he need to draw a “Bai Yu” like Zhao Mingyue did?
Then again, if he did draw a red-clothed one, she would probably end up eating him.
He could only sigh again about their relationship being so good; yet it still feels a little odd, almost like they’re not sisters, but something else…
Once they reach the park, Bai Yu carries her black umbrella, strolling alongside Zhao Mingyue on the paths.
Lu Liangting doesn’t follow them, greeting Zhao Mingyue before staying behind with the car.
He decides not to break the atmosphere between the two and takes on the role of the driver.
Watching the two lovely figures fade into the distance, he leans back in his seat, feeling quite complicated. He tries not to glance at Bai Yu, as he doesn’t fully understand his own feelings for her.
He’s unsure whether it counts as romantic feelings between a man and a woman, though he keeps telling himself not to think too much—it’s merely a sense of gratitude.
“Gratitude counts as feelings, right…” Squinting, Lu Liangting prepares for a short nap but suddenly notices something.
Two vans turn around and enter the park, parking nearby.
Twelve men, all seemingly thugs from the area, spill out of the vans.
Lu Liangting sits up, frowning. He notices they’re all armed—some with electric batons, others with knives, and even someone carries a long, skinny object wrapped in cloth that looks like a machete.
“What are these guys up to?”
It’s 1:30 PM—there are barely any people left in the park, most have gone home.
“Are they here to fight? No, I should check on that. Zhao Mingyue and Bai Yu are over there.”
Lu Liangting hasn’t even stepped out of the car when his phone rings.
“Hello, what’s up?”
“Lu Liangting, where are you right now?” Xia Qingrong’s voice comes through.
“Out and about.”
“Hurry back! There’s trouble at home!”
“Trouble?”
“You’ll find out when you get here. Someone’s causing trouble for your dad. As the future head of the family, you need to pitch in; you can’t just lounge around all day!”
The call ends abruptly, leaving Lu Liangting silent in the car.
Should he follow those thugs or head home first?
Something about this feels off; why would trouble show up at home right now?
Moreover, his father typically wouldn’t let him handle family affairs. If something was urgent, he’d be notified in advance, not through his stepmother.
To be safe, Lu Liangting dials his dad, but no one picks up.
“No one home?”
Hanging up, he tries again—still no answer, so he decides to call Zhizi.
“Zhizi.” The call connects quickly.
“Young Master, what can I do for you?”
“Is there trouble at home?”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know. I’m out with my sister buying things. The lady said there are distinguished guests tonight.”
“Distinguished guests? Do you know who?”
“No idea, Young Master. You know how the lady is; she doesn’t share those things with me and my sister.”
“Alright then.”
Sitting in the car, Lu Liangting watches the direction the thuggish group headed off to, contemplating whether to tell Zhao Mingyue and rush home before returning.
What he doesn’t know is that two streets away, Xia Qingrong hangs up the phone.
Next to her, Sun Hanyue looks astonished.
Just now, the male protagonist’s mother sent someone to target the female protagonist, all because of a single remark.
Doesn’t she care about confirming the news first?
What if someone lied?
Isn’t this a life at stake? How can she just order a hit like that?
It hasn’t even been two hours, and this old woman has arranged everything.
She has zero hesitation, treating a life like it’s worth nothing.
Well, such matters aren’t hers to ponder; she doesn’t treat lives like lives either.
But the problem is, when you’re out for bl**d, at least keep an eye open!
She already informed me Zhao Mingyue was the top killer; she could wipe the floor with anyone. Why on earth doesn’t she believe a word of it?
Also, does she think pulling this in front of me is some prestige demonstration?
Is she trying to intimidate me?
No way, right?
If these people go after the doctor, the most I could do is give a thumbs up and think, “Jeez, insane.”
Sun Hanyue seems to get Xia Qingrong’s mindset. A rich and powerful woman wants to off a poor little girl without parents. What could be easier?
If she’s trying to play a bigger game, then there’s really nothing to say.
She tried persuading before, but it was useless; this old hag wore a face that said, ‘Just wait and see.’
Sigh, today really is unlucky. She can only hope the doctor doesn’t trace things back to her.
—
“Meow~”
A little black cat sprawls on a bench, soaking up the sun when Zhao Mingyue and Bai Yu walk by.
After meandering around the park for twenty minutes, Zhao Mingyue wants to find a spot to sit and rest for a bit.
“Hey, Yu Mei, how about we…” Zhao Mingyue starts, but suddenly notices Bai Yu has stopped mid-stride. Looking back, she finds Bai Yu staring at the stray black cat on the bench.
Zhao Mingyue blinks, switching gazes between Bai Yu and the little black cat.
The little coal ball is dirty and likely has been digging around somewhere. It’s very young—probably only four or five months—and quite frail.
With its fluffy black fur, it looks even more weak and tiny.
Looking at it grooming itself, Zhao Mingyue is surprised to see that those big, round eyes are a striking sky blue, clear as a gem.
‘Such a beautiful little cat, and someone abandoned it?’
‘But wait, is Bai Yu a cat slave…?’
‘That thought just now, Bai Yu asked if I had snacks for the cats earlier.’
“Hey, Yu Mei.” Zhao Mingyue waves her hand to get Bai Yu’s attention. “There’s a vending machine over there with drinks and snacks! I’ll go grab two bottles of water and some hot dogs!”
Bai Yu quickly nods in response, not saying a word.
Zhao Mingyue jogs off to buy snacks while Bai Yu slowly approaches the lounging little black cat.
To her surprise, the little black cat doesn’t run; it curiously stares at her with its round, blue eyes.
Bai Yu crouches in front of the bench and reaches out to pet the cat, but then hesitates, recalling something. She retracts her hand back into the air.
She’s a ghost; the cat is so frail, best not to touch it.
“Be wary; don’t trust anyone,” Bai Yu murmurs.
She remembers the cats Bai Sisi had once—trusting humans too much is what led to their demise.
“Meow~”
The little black cat stretches and yawns.
Just at that moment.
“That’s her!”
A loud shout comes from nearby as several armed men rush over. The sudden noise startles the little black cat, which bolts away.
Bai Yu’s hand instinctively reaches out, but debating whether she should catch the cat as a ghost keeps her paralyzed. She watches helplessly as the little black cat runs off in the direction of three men charging toward it.
With the cat now fleeing, the area is deserted, and it’s surrounded by people, not to mention it’s barely four or five months old.
“d*mn it.”
The yellow-haired thug at the forefront kicks out hard, sending the little black cat flying.
“Where’s the girl?”
Bai Yu stands up, her expression unchanging, dark energy oozing from her as she clenches her fists.
