Chapter One Hundred Sixty-Eight: Utterly Cowardly
Taking a deep breath to calm her poor little heart that nearly jumped out of her throat, Shen Shuyun suddenly felt an urge to light a cigarette, find a corner, and ponder her life while smoking.
She thought she had seen it all—crazy and ridiculous things were her bread and butter.
But merging the first and third entities? That’s definitely not just a simple one plus one equals two scenario!
And now, seven people contacted her, forming a little squad called the “Hidden Instigators.” They wanted her to relay a message to the doctor: they all had new identities now; there might be some differences, but not that significant. Together, they could definitely take down anyone.
She had to admit, Bai Yu had some strong skills, but numbers were on the instigators’ side.
All this time, who hasn’t been desperately improving their powers? So, of course, they must be stronger too! Seven people, who were all notable names, certainly didn’t pale in comparison to Bai Yu!
Thus, knowing that Bai Yu and she were supposed to be teammates, she figured if Bai Yu floundered, it wouldn’t be beneficial for her. Why not remind her? Don’t rouse the community’s wrath! There were only seven of them, but if the fight started, more crazies would join in.
Just killing the doctor would be enchanting enough to attract all sorts of lunatics, and soon enough, Bai Yu could be surrounded by over ten or even twenty people.
“You seem like you have something to say,” Dragon Lady said, resting her chin on her hand with her eyes sparkling, clearly in a good mood.
“Ahem.” Shen Shuyun coughed, shoving aside all thoughts of her dear friends, “I just wanted to mention that the doctor called me over. Seems like there’s something they need to discuss. I came a bit early, so I’m ready to take instructions when needed.”
Take instructions? Such a humble phrase!
She had never been so meek when talking to Bai Yu.
But now, she had no choice. Dragon Lady was a certified lunatic, unlike Bai Yu, who could at least be reasoned with. If it meant no benefits, Bai Yu wouldn’t k*ll you. But for Dragon Lady? One dismissive glance or wrong word, and she’d chase you down relentlessly until you met your demise.
This gal had a taste for torturing victims; compared to the doctor, a clean beheading truly showcased “expertise in medicine.”
Although her mouth said one thing, inside, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at her rotten luck—not just hers, but everyone’s.
“Ohh, so that’s how it is. Bai Yu told me you two are partners!”
“Yup, partners!” Shen Shuyun felt cold sweat trickle down her forehead.
“Well then, I was hoping to discuss how you plan to compensate me for breaking my Ocean Heart last time,” Dragon Lady raised an eyebrow, looking quite mischievous.
“Umm, let me find something good, and I’ll make it double!” Shen Shuyun stood to the side, playing the role of the obedient little soldier, not daring to take a deep breath. She glanced at Zhao Mingyue, who was sulking off to the side, and felt the same gloomy vibe.
How on earth did Bai Yu and Dragon Lady become a pair?
Wasn’t their first meeting just two fighters, one clawing, the other stabbing, both fainting from each other’s ridiculousness while spectators had a grand time?
And Zhao Mingyue, wouldn’t you consider being a female protagonist for a moment?
What enchanted potion did you drink?
Did you miss watching your wife get snatched right in front of you?!
How is it possible to just sit there, moping as your spouse disappears?
Catching the glint in Shen Shuyun’s eyes, Zhao Mingyue shot her an annoyed look that only added to her internal gloom.
Only the giggles of Dragon Lady were left in the air when, in the next moment, Bai Yu occupied her body.
“Shen Shuyun.”
“Doctor?” Shen Shuyun looked up.
Pairing Bai Yu with Dragon Lady finally put things into perspective for her; she’d thought Bai Yu was the hardest to deal with, constantly fearing the possibility of imminent d*ath. But now, with Dragon Lady around, even the doctor looked like a charming sweetheart!
“Could you do me a favor?” Bai Yu jumped down from the tree, her armor skirt fluttering.
“Y-you go ahead!”
“Be a middleman and tell them if they don’t want a fight, they can leave.”
The moment Bai Yu said that, Shen Shuyun instantly understood, “Sure, I’ll do my best!”
“Good.”
“Now about this task…”
“It’s mine now.” Bai Yu crossed her arms as she stepped toward the dilapidated gate of the amusement park. bl**d Threads coalesced into a chair, which she plopped onto, crossing her legs and resting her fingers on her knees, with Night Bright’s longsword leaning beside her, ready for action.
Silently sitting there, her petite figure radiated an imposing presence.
“Your power reigns, you call the shots,” Shen Shuyun shrugged.
“And one more thing, those unwilling to fight should stay behind; I have something to say.”
“Alrighty, got it.”
Time passed slowly as Zhao Mingyue sat lonely on the grass under a tree, supporting her face with her hands in extreme boredom, glancing at the still figure at the entrance that had been sitting there for two hours, and it was impossible not to let her mind wander.
She knew Bai Yu could communicate with the possessor in her heart, silent to outsiders.
So, was Bai Yu chatting with Dragon Lady the whole time? What were they discussing? Strategies? Small talk? Or perhaps love?
Her subconscious insisted Bai Yu was not one for romantic talk, but those thoughts clung stubbornly!
If Bai Yu stayed quiet, surely Dragon Lady would ramble on, going a mile a minute.
“Sigh.”
Zhao Mingyue sighed, but suddenly noticed Bai Yu was moving.
She stood, grasped the sword hilt, the bl**d Thread chair vanished into the ground. The cold mask remained emotionless as ever, and as the sun set, her dragon scales darkened, shimmering with crimson thread patterns.
Not very tall, standing at five feet and five inches, clad in a black armored skirt layered with tough dragon scales.
Just as Zhao Mingyue was about to take a closer look, she heard a haughty female voice.
“So you are Dragon Lady?”
Turning toward the voice, three figures appeared, each styled differently but radiating an intimidating aura.
They bore weapons, and the middle one held a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, bl**d smeared on the spikes, and even an eyeball hung off of it.
Bai Yu, wielding her longsword, walked steadily toward them.
As Bai Yu approached, the three exchanged glances, not rushing into action.
Dragon Lady’s traits were unmistakable—there was really only one person who could possess such ability. But there was a problem.
Why was this Dragon Lady so silent?
The tension and murderous intent she exuded were entirely different from the typical Dragon Lady vibe.
Dragon Lady had a penchant for chaos and could unleash fury at any moment, giving the sense of a lone boat struggling in a vast sea while the one before her radiated pure edge—sharp, lethal, and dripping with murderous intent.
This aura felt oddly familiar to them.
“This place is mine.”
“Yours?” The red-haired girl scoffed, “I don’t know if you really are Dragon Lady, but are you seriously that confident?”
“Hey, Ghost Face, aren’t you going to introduce yourself?” the short-haired girl tossed a dagger in her hand, catching a glimpse of Shen Shuyun standing under the tree.
Shen Shuyun sighed and walked forward to stand between Bai Yu and the three girls.
“Linc, here’s the thing. If there’s nothing pressing that you really need to go in for, let’s skip it. This one is indeed Dragon Lady, but not entirely,” Shen Shuyun scrambled to find words to describe Bai Yu and Dragon Lady.
“Also, there’s another in her body, not very famous, but I think you might know them.”
“Less chatter, just say it. Do you want to d*e?”
“Doctor,” Shen Shuyun held up her hands in surrender, “Just a little well-known, right? Just someone who’s dead, but now is a ghost in Dragon Lady’s body, with slightly heightened powers.”
In an instant, the faces of the three girls changed dramatically.
“Doctor!?”
Just two words brought back some unwanted memories for them, and they quickly realized where this bizarre, sharp aura from Dragon Lady was coming from.
“Yep, believe it or not, that’s up to you,” Shen Shuyun glanced back at the amusement park entrance. “Here’s the deal, if you really want to go in, I don’t have any strategies. How about a little brawl?”
“After all, you still have four people missing; all seven of you should be able to hold your own. And if anyone dies, well, you can bury them together, lifelong sisters, right?”
Like a joke, throw seven people together, and don’t mention the doctor and Dragon Lady teaming up. Just one of them alone would prevent you from making a rash move—once the fight begins, be prepared for total annihilation.
“Alright, I know what you’re thinking. You want to take on a mission and get some loot, but to be honest, this news isn’t as solid as you’d think. If you truly wish to know the truth, hang tight here.”
“Coincidentally, I have some intel from the doctor; we’ll share it when everyone’s present. You won’t go home empty-handed.”
“If you plan to leave now, then it won’t be free; you’ll need to part with a few things, like a heart or a head, maybe?”
“Don’t look at me like that, I’m just being honest. I can’t control the circumstances.”
Peeking from Shen Shuyun to the Dragon Lady with the longsword behind her, the red-haired leader swallowed hard.
Testing their identities could wait.
“Ahem, fine, we’ll hang back a little to hear you out; no rush on our end.”
With that, the three nonchalantly moved aside, appearing as if nothing had fazed them.
Shen Shuyun’s eyelids twitched.
She had laid it all out, and that was their response?
What happened to the courage it took to upset the doctor before this?
Then, Shen Shuyun realized she saw a completely different side of these lunatics.
As night fell, more and more gals suddenly stood obediently away, gazing dreamily across the way—twelve of them, to be precise.
Their expressions said it all: I’m just passing by. I’m not being cowardly, feel free to speak up, and I’ll head home after!
These crazies worshiped the strong but feared them even more.
She was mad, terrified of the even madder folks.
By 7 PM, Lu Liangting’s silhouette appeared in everyone’s sight.
He came late due to some minor incidents.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
