Chapter 178: Evil God and Daughter
Under the Dragon Lady’s power, the statue was about as sturdy as a toddler’s building blocks—give it a little twist, and a large chunk would crack right off. A good punch? Instant crater! The few arms behind it were more for show than anything, flailing around like they were trying to hail a cab.
The last statue crumbled to pieces. There was no secret passage under the base, just some talismans scribbled with who-knows-what.
“Smashing the statues does seem to work,” one of them remarked. “I get it now; these statues are like storage units for all the nasty vibes and curses. Break ’em, and the village’s curse might get a little boost… but all that nasty energy the Evil God has collected over the years? Down the drain!”
“Too bad there aren’t any useful clues.”
“I remember someone saying that Evil Gods can’t be killed; they can only be exorcised or summoned.”
The Dragon Lady’s voice echoed in Bai Yu’s mind. She couldn’t control her body right now, but she could still see the outside world.
“I was thinking… what if there’s something in the temple left by the First Generation Goddess to summon two Evil Gods back, using a reverse summoning technique? Wouldn’t that be easier?”
“But there are way too many believers outside. How long would it take to wipe them all out?”
“And what if we miss a few? The Evil Gods might just come back.”
“Though, it seems not to matter much. Evil Gods mature really slowly! Give me three years, and I could squash them with one hand.”
Bai Yu stayed silent as she half-squatted by the newly revealed tunnel beneath the statue base, stretching out her hand to sense it. Just as she suspected, the curse energy inside was even thicker than that in the temple.
Curses are colorless, shapeless, and tasteless, not even material—more like something that exists in the realm of the mind. Think of the brain as a precision computer; curses are the viruses. People get cursed by touching the sources of these curses.
Curses are often tied to evil thoughts.
Evil thoughts can be seen as the raw substance of the Evil God, effectively amplifying the curse’s power indefinitely.
In this tunnel entrance, it wasn’t really curses that were abundant; it was evil thoughts.
“Don’t want me going down there, huh?” Bai Yu stood up, eyeing the temple entrance.
When she smashed the statue and uncovered the tunnel, a presence had already descended, manifesting itself within the temple.
The bl**d threads, shrouded in talismans, visibly melted away, corroded by an invisible force until they turned black.
The blackness spread rapidly through the bl**d, and everywhere it spread lost control. Bai Yu actively severed that portion, retracting the remaining bl**d threads—no sense in wasting effort.
This blackness reminded her of those weird red-clad characters she dealt with back at the Huang house.
That was a totally different kind of power; it was her first encounter with something like that, and now she could definitively say it was linked to the Evil Gods.
“Leave, leave this place. You are not needed here.” The black mist coalesced into a ball, inside which emanated a solemn and authoritative female voice.
“A She Godmother or Brahma Sound?” Bai Yu squinted.
The difficulty of Eternal Life Village had decreased significantly; only Brahma Sound and A She were left among the four Evil Gods, the two with the strongest propagation abilities and the hardest to deal with were absent.
“Leave this place,” repeated the voice.
“Sure, but you need to do me a favor.” Bai Yu sheathed her kn*fe and raised a claw toward herself—specifically, the somewhat underwhelming chest of the Dragon Lady. “Burning Heart is currently inside my body. Get her out, whether you k*ll her or eat her doesn’t matter to me; once that’s done, I’ll leave.”
Bai Yu remembered her purpose for coming here: not to rampage, not to pick a fight with Brahma Sound and A She, but to help the Dragon Lady eliminate Burning Heart.
Burning Heart seemed weak, posed little threat, and could be peeled away from Zhao Mingyue’s body with relative ease. But the reality was, Burning Heart was still a Godmother with tremendous potential.
Potential equated to latent danger.
A Godmother who could get tangled in curses with just a single thought was definitely not trash, as the Dragon Lady had put it.
The Dragon Lady’s previous statement was simply to confuse the opponent.
Burning Heart had always been tucked away inside the Dragon Lady. No matter how powerful the Dragon Lady was, she couldn’t deal with it. Can’t just pull out her soul and give it a wash!
Sooner or later, Burning Heart would recover her powers.
That day might come sooner rather than later.
Once she had her first believer, anything could spiral out of control.
It was spreading far too fast and too violently.
In today’s world, spreading the name Burning Heart is far too easy. Instead of worrying about whether she could regain her powers, worrying about her speed of propagation was much more terrifying—would she accidentally self-destruct?
The Evil God’s will hung in the air, suspended in silence.
Bai Yu watched her, and she was also watching Bai Yu.
How many years had it been? For the first time, the Evil God encountered a situation where the curse found itself blocked by Bai Yu’s presence. The bloody aura felt like a massive tsunami, while her curses and evil thoughts felt like a flimsy little boat that, once faced with it, was doomed to capsize.
With the dual threats of curses and evil thoughts proving ineffective, the believers outside seemed to be the only option.
But then, Bai Yu had just showcased that the darn Dragon Lady was ridiculously powerful. Dozens of believers attacking had barely stirred a ripple!
If they actually fought, even if they won, all those years of nurturing believers would be tossed aside.
She was thoroughly confused.
After all her hard work with her sister developing the village in secret, the ultimate wish was to break through the village’s barriers and expand into the outside world.
They finally got rid of the eldest sister and sent off the second; it hadn’t been long at all! How on earth did they end up attracting this annoying Dragon Lady?
And now they expected her to deal with Burning Heart?
She’d gladly send Burning Heart packing!
“Leave.”
“Oh, is that how it is? Then we have nothing to discuss.” Bai Yu pulled the red cloth off the last two statue heads, revealing the true forms of Burning Heart and Qian Mu.
She never intended to collaborate with the Godmothers. Instead of putting faith in them, she’d much rather wipe out Eternal Life Village and dig for clues piece by piece.
The bl**d mist dispersed the Evil God’s will, and Bai Yu stepped out to the cave’s mouth, whistling. In no time, a graceful jade fox leaped elegantly out of the dense fog, landing gracefully. She shook her slender body, and her fluffy tail swished slightly.
The fox approached Bai Yu, lowering its proud head.
“Master, you’ve come out~”
Bai Shuang’er’s voice was sickeningly sweet. Seeing Bai Yu facing the Evil God without a hint of fear and smashing the statue, she knew she had hitched her wagon to a mighty steed—a big, burly one at that.
“Those creepy hybrid ideas didn’t harm you, did they~?”
She was too lazy to even call out “Godmother”, immediately upgrading to “not human or ghost” status.
In some ways, Evil Gods were indeed neither human nor ghost—structured far simpler than ghosts. To put it plainly, they were just malicious thoughts that had taken form. They grew faster than ghosts and were harder to k*ll without a true body.
Let’s call it what it is: an alternative ghost.
“Enough chatter; let’s get to the altar.”
“Sure, just sit tight.” Bai Shuang’er moved at lightning speed, but Bai Yu riding her back didn’t feel a bump. Each landing was steady, like a balloon that had just inflated, leaping a good eight or nine meters.
“Boss, what are you going to the altar for?”
“To k*ll the Evil Gods.”
“I got it! You’re going to wipe out all the believers in the village, right? Just like a true boss! Once you k*ll them all, the curse won’t spread, and the Evil Gods will croak on their own!”
“Uh-huh, aside from that option, are there any other ways to deal with the Evil Gods?”
This fox had lived in the village for at least a hundred years, and she definitely knew more than the Dragon Lady.
“Well, I know one.”
“Spill it.”
“See, the Evil Gods don’t just appear out of nowhere; they’re summoned. I’m not sure where it is, but aside from Qian Mu, the other three Godmothers came from there.”
As she ran, Bai Shuang’er explained, “When those Evil Gods first pop out, they’re like tender sprouts; super fragile. They need nourishment—complex stuff, really. In short, it’s despair and evil thoughts, any kind will do.”
“A She Godmother and Brahma Sound Godmother didn’t go through that step, but they do have a medium; it’s a growth-stage embryo.”
“As long as we find that, we can gather up the Godmothers’ evil thoughts and then destroy them!”
“Sounds easy when you say it, but it’s a whole other story to actually do it.”
“Once we get the embryo, if none of you had your powers, it wouldn’t do much anyway. There are just too many evil thoughts from the Evil Gods that can’t be entirely collected.”
“Destroying them would indeed hurt the Evil Gods, but eventually, embryos would regrow. Talk about a wasted effort.”
“Boss, you totally rock! Hehe!”
“You can k*ll all those believers and find the embryos of the two Evil Gods. Just give them the final blow!”
“Actually, that’s what Goddesses are for, Boss.”
“Goddesses are here to amplify embryos. I don’t know what’s wrong with these Godmothers, treating dead embryos so nicely.”
“Almost like they’re raising a daughter! Qian Mu is the only exception.”
From the fox’s words, Bai Yu vaguely understood what it meant: Evil Gods weren’t born out of thin air; they emerged from an unknown world. However, upon emergence, they were merely fledglings. Nothing was set yet. Evil thoughts and the so-called embryo were the foundations determining the strength of the Evil Gods.
An embryo, somewhat like a “signal tower,” would solidify the Evil God’s will.
“So, the embryo is basically a limitless source for evil thoughts.”

I’ll try my best to write another chapter soon; if I can’t, then it’s just four updates for today, awwwww.
What I owe will come tomorrow as well—also four updates.
